Wedding Woes

Monday

How was everyone's weekend?  Mine was blessedly lowkey.  Crummy weather contributed to the staying-in.  Made corned beef, cabbage, mashed potatoes, and soda bread yesterday because I just won't have the time on Thursday.  Hoping everyone has a good week!

Re: Monday

  • Weekend was super busy.  Saturday Chiquito had a long-anticipated play date with a friend and DH and I were in prep mode for MIL's birthday.  Yesterday the party was great and we made a PERFECTLY executed beef wellington.  It was delicious!  I hit the wine a bit harder than I should have but I'm up and at 'em today and facing the day!

I need to get moving on St. Patrick's Day prep!
  • I'm glad we are going to more daylight, but this first Monday after the time change is a rough one.

I had a good, relaxing weekend.  But nothing much of note.

Got some bad news today at work.  I LOVE where I currently sit at work.  Even though it's a cube, it's spacious and in a corner.  It's also in a room without many other people. I like it even better than when I had my own office.

Except no.  They are moving three of us from this room to a different, giant room.  It has 20+ cubes in it.  I've had my work station there before and hated it (sigh).  It's busy and a lot less privacy.  When the project manager first came over to tell the three of us about the upcoming move, one of my coworkers blurted out a hopeful, "We'll be working from home?"  She was "joking", but got her point across.  He laughed ruefully and said "nooo".

Anyway, we're probably moving sometime this week.  I am not happy.  It's such a PITA every time I have to move and this is the third time in two years!  This might be my final push to start actively looking for a WFH job.

  • Oh!  It's Pi day.  For those of you who have a Blaze Pizza near you, they have a coupon for a $3.14 personal 11" pizza in their app.  It's good starting today, but can be used up until 4/1.

I've seen other good Pi deals online but, except for Blaze and Papa John's (blech), none of them are that close to me.  Perhaps some of you will have better luck, lol.

  • Feeling those feels @short+sassy.  We’re expanding our own office and the fun people we sit and talk with daily will be moved down the hall to the new section.  Boooo.  Plus, since we came back from covid in July 2020, we made an arrangement with corporate that we needed lunches brought in via grubhub. The virus was so new and no one knew anything about it, but we were told not to touch community surfaces (most of the kitchen) and then that theory went down the drain months later, but we were still ordering lunches daily.  Corporate put a stop to it today since all offices were going back to normal. But it’s actually a good thing IMO.  Bringing in my own food, I’ll know what’s in it (I need low sodium and restaurant food never is). So I’m hoping to go back to loosing some weight?
My weekend was low key as well.  My prp treatment was supposed to give me bruising so I made no plans.  It actually didn’t!  But I think I need a 2nd treatment :(. On Saturday I got my extensions put back in, but instead of reusing the old wefts, I bought a new pack.  I was putting them in myself lately (I’m cheap) and cutting them to make them even. I had no idea how a snip here and a snip there was taking a lot off.  New extensions feel wonderful and give me great length.  I walk around like I’m in a pantene commercial now.

  • S&S ugh that totally sucks about having to move your desk.

Weekend was fun! I was exhausted Friday. I think I fell asleep on the couch at 9pm.

Saturday we got yet another snow storm. We made the best of it. Played outside for a bit with the kids. Got a good work out in. Drank wine, and N made corn dogs from the corn he had grown in the garden. They came out so good.

Drove down to my apartment that I hadn't been at for a while. I need to start packing. But instead last night I ordered a shit ton of sushi and caught up on my Bravo shows.
  • @climbingsingle where are you moving? into a house or somewhere else?

that stinks on the desk change @short+sassy  I would like the quiet space too.  Our office is moving this summer  to merge with the other local office under our same parent company. I don't go to the office much as it is but I definitely won't be motivated to go now sharing with people I don't know and really have no reason to interact with work-wise

DST did not treat DS well - it's too freaking light out for bedtime and he was so tired this morning, I let him sleep in for a while but he was so tired when I woke him up. On the bright side he was super snuggly as a result. well ok he is ALWAYS super snuggly but at least in the morning I'm in the mood for it lol
  • Weekend was pretty good, nothing exciting. Friday we ordered and had wine. Saturday we had a contractor in to look at the living room. This is the 4th? I think to come look at it. The one we had originally hired closed his business and went to work for a large company; he could have brought out project over but wouldn’t start for a full year from the original planned start.

More snow and cold weather so we checked out the library in the town next to us. Baby M loved it and other families were there so we weren’t the only ones making noise.

Ugh boo about that move @short+sassy!  Prior to education I had a semi-office job (home healthcare company, I split time between visiting patients in their homes and office time).  I had an incredible cubicle (small but in a quiet, people-rarely-passed-by corner, 4' walls so I was out of view when seated) but was moved after a couple years to a cubicle in the middle of everything with basically no walls, just this flimsy divider.  I was only there another year but became one of those people who worked at random Starbucks when I could find a seat against a wall, so my screen couldn't be viewed (HIPAA/typing visit notes).
Good for your coworker to suggest working from home!  A handful of my work-in-the-city cousins have been working from home basically for the last two years, but our city is opening up and they're up in arms that they have been summoned back at least a couple days a week.  Part of me is like "welcome to my world" but I also get the frustration of being able to effectively work from home and being told I can't do that each day.  Good luck on your WFM search!
  • What a PITA @short+sassy.  I am really glad that my job is WFH and think more and more companies need to step it up.

The concept of doing that is no longer an extra or a thing that super progressive companies do.  It's now shifting to be the norm at least a few days a week.  IMO companies that aren't going to embrace this are going to find that they're losing more people and will need to either embrace WFH or increase salaries.
  • @kvruns I'm moving into my boyfriend's house upstate. Lots of space and on a lot of acreage!
  • I'm actually a little worried about how much I slept/napped this weekend.  Went to bed early all 3 nights and had at least two 2 hour naps on Sunday.  Part of me feels like maybe it's that I need to start moving; another part of me feels like this is a result of starting to push workouts and maybe I'm not physically ready.  I don't really know what to do.  I figure if it goes on another month, I will need to make an appointment with the doctor.

So, I did nothing this weekend except for laundry and some cleaning chores around the house and finished a book I was reading.  I didn't even really watch much TV or talk to anyone.  Maybe I'm just hibernating?
