Wedding Woes

Friday

Hope that this is a long weekend for everyone, and that some joyful moments are planned.  May the independence America was founded on trickle back to us soon.
@levioosa and @mrsconn23 congrats on the jobs!
Healing vibes to everyone dealing with Covid (or something else) right now

Re: Friday

  • I slept so bad last night and there's a food truck that makes only cannoli outside DH's employer until 3.  I told him this.  He needs to come home with cannoli.

Oh, and I realized a lot of my anxiousness was likely premenstrual anxiety and today I got my period.  So...I need cannoli.

  • That sculpture is awesome @VarunaTT

I woke up feeling a very certain type of way after hearing additionally that the EPA has pretty much been gutted and states authority on tribal lands has been expanded. I couldn’t even listen to music on my way to work this morning. Just a silent hour drive.

Still waiting for the full official agreement from the job. I’m so scarred from the last process.

I hope everyone has a good long weekend. I said fuck it and I’m taking Tuesday off too. Four day weekend it is!

  • I cannot wait until this day is over. It's so freaking slow at the office. And of course dreading the traffic on the way home. However, for the rest of the weekend I will be happily floating in the pool with some BBQing and fireworks mixed in.

You deserve all the cannoli @banana468
    cute cat @VarunaTT!

Yesterday was a very ugh day.  I got into it with my brother on the phone, playing arm chair psychologist, was busy at work, needed to help my cousin photoshop a picture of her dad for the obit and the last few days one of my friends has been giving me a play by play during his break up with his ex.  Like literally so many texts and calls! And from what I can see, they’re both being a bit dramatic.  Her more than him.  Relationships are hard, but they should never be this hard.  Throw in the towel already.  So between their texts, and the monkeypox outbreak I’m second guessing starting up online dating again.

And SIL is not doing good, so her mom’s on her way to them. I don’t think I’m heading there because I have a feeling I’ll just be in the way more than anything.  Such a gloomy week.

    Happy International Wing Day though.

  • I was out yesterday also.  I was so sick on Wednesday with my cold.  I even felt like I had a fever on Wed. night.  I really couldn't afford to take the time, stuff to do-wise, at work.  But I just had to.  So glad I did!  I definitely needed the rest and am actually feeling a lot better today.  Still sick, but much more tolerable.

Fridays are my half day anyway, so I'll be off in another couple hours for my 3-day weekend!  I almost feel gluttonous after having been gone on vacation for over a week, lol.

I've already received info about the company that is taking over my Costco scanning gig.  There is a Zoom call at 1PM today.  That I was informed about this morning.  Fortunately, I can attend despite the only few hours of notice, smh.

Hope you all have a great 4th of July.

  • Thanks @levioosa, I’m glad we’re 4 hours away from it ending. I hope you hear today so you can start your long weekend.
    @climbingsingle your weekend sounds WONDERFUL.

glad you feel better @short+sassy.  I’m interested in hearing if the new company is better.

  • As far as I can tell all my coworkers and 95% of my clients took today off so I’m having a pretty chill day.  Which I think is fair after working all last weekend! Dance comp tomorrow then Sunday I am sitting by the pool doing nothing, casual bbq at a friend’s place Monday. The news has me just so angry and I need to find some space to breathe.
  • 2022 is the year of the never-ending supply issue.

This is such a FWP but it's absolutely frustrating to be in my position and work to supply some large accounts working with vendors who confirm we'll have the required materials a month ago only to find out now that product that should be delivering this week ISN'T DELIVERING UNTIL OCTOBER!

If you see this when you're shopping just don't be surprised.  It's a pain, adds more work and isn't helping to get the job done.

I'm dealing with the same shit. It's the worst time to be in purchasing. I have a vendor that's on a 14 week lead time. Their truck just delivered containers with NO LIDS. They didn't even run them yet. Paper manufacturers aren't delivering. Ships are getting on the water MONTHS late. It's insane.
  • I heard (didn’t read, but heard) that popcorn in theaters will be a thing of the past.  Not because of shortage of kernels or anything, but shortage of the containers.

ummmm…. You know what they should do? Even without the shortage? 1/2 off popcorn if you bring in your own container! Way more environmentally friendly.

Yup. One of the items we cannot get.

If you can do that I wonder if there's any criteria?  The concern I'd have in a movie theater is cross contamination from outside to inside even by bringing your own container.  It's low but what if your house is gross?

I'm not sure if you saw but there was a papermill strike in Finland for several months earlier this year.  It affected liner supply to the US and Russia is also a major lumber/pulp supplier which isn't helping.  US lumber exists but it doesn't cover the global supply.  I'm in the process of working with accounts buying items that used paper liners to go to a different material that can be more readily supplied.

Oh - but by making a non-paper material you're likely using oil so I'm somewhat curious to what degree that is affecting the gas price since this is a short term surge/change.

Yeah that’s true.  I didn’t even think of that.  And those poor employees have to touch the (could be) gross container.  AMC does have a reusable container though.  I’m not sure what it’s made of, but they offered or used to offer it in December for the entire upcoming year. You bring it back in for a good discount. I’m not even sure why I’m even trying to find a work around for this food that I shouldn’t even be eating? LOL

I'm guessing if it's their container it helps?  Just as someone who has seen people that are gross I want only popcorn in my bucket.
  • I made it to Los Angeles and (sorry @levioosa) I hate this airport. My mom is delayed so I’m having a Prosecco.

And I landed to results from blood work saying I’m significantly vitamin D deficiency. So they called in a prescribe dose? Didn’t even know that was a thing.

Welcome to my airport hell on Tuesday.
I’m vitamin D deficient too.  But no surprise there, since I avoid the sun at all costs.  Didn’t know there was a script either.  I buy these and they seem to be keeping my count OK since being diagnosed 4 years ago.  $15 for a Almost a year’s supply…. Maybe cheaper?

  • Haha no shade @charlotte989875. Everyoneee hates LAX. It’s a wasteland of traffic and dirt. Picking up or dropping off someone as a favor is an act of love reserved only for the ultimate and favorite of the favorite people in your life. And sometimes not even then. Lol. People literally will live close by and still choose to fly out of Long Beach or even San Diego (2.5 hours away) to avoid it. I personally love the Ontario airport because it’s close by and a breeze, but unfortunately it limits a lot of direct flights and you usually have to do a layover.

And yes, depending on how low we either suggest daily Vitamin D, or you can get prescribed a gigantic dose that’s once a week for a few weeks (fat soluble vitamin).

I think, IIRC, it's like a massive boost to your vit D levels to get them up quickly and then you'll have to take X amount.  My doctor just upped mine, I was at 11 when they first caught it years ago and have struggled with keeping it up since then.  Finally at 35, but that's still low.  There have been some pretty sound science showing connections between low vit D and Alzheimer's, plus you need vit D for your body to do lots of other stuff, so it's critical.  I could sunbathe every day for hours and eat all the vit D things and it's something my body just won't do.  Once you get it to better levels, you'll sleep better too.

My own mom refuses to pick me up from LAX.  OC or San Diego, sure.  But if I fly into LAX, I have to figure it out myself how to get to her house in southern OC, lol.

@charlotte989875, I've had a prescription for Vitamin D before.  I initially figured I'd just buy it OTC.  But when I looked at the dose, I would have had to have taken 10-12 pills a day of OTC Vitamin D, to equal the same amount.

@levioosa, my doctor at the time never explained it like you did.  I assumed that was a regular prescription I would need to take potentially forever.  She did take me off of it at my next appointment because my levels were back in a normal range.

Thank you! Mine was at 15 so also pretty low. They’re putting my on 50k units for 8 weeks then something after that indefinitely. It’s weird that I’m 2 years I went from normal to so so low.
  • Ha @levioosa I dropped someone off yesterday evening and the coffee guy was giving me a weird look for order coffee at 8pm then I said I was going out there, he laughed and said he was so sorry.
