Prudie day!

Very excited to read some Prudence today, how is everyone's week going?

Re: Prudie day!

  • I’m also in need of some Prudie today.

There’s someone on my team who is just awful. Yesterday she said me and another woman going to lunch with a third person when she was around was a microagression. I’m trying so hard not to lose my mind at her about how she as a white woman is not the target of a microagression when me (also a ww) and our director (a Black woman) and another colleague planned a lunch. I just, cannot with this fuckery.
  • WTF @charlotte989875?!  That's...wow.

DH is home today because he has to get an implant since he has a tooth that already had a root canal that's now falling out.  He went to the dentist to get fitted for a flipper and I guess it won't be done until Monday and he's annoyed he'll be toothless for a few days.  He also wants me to come with him to the oral surgeon this afternoon, but I'm getting a lot of admin questions and whatnot because they're trying to get me set up with my laptop and stuff.

    Prudie coming up.
  • Oh wow @charlotte989875.  Immediately, no.

I stuck my neck out at work yesterday trying to prevent a disaster and got smacked down hard.  So, I'm done with this place.  I've got my doorway blocked, I'm removing all personal effects from my office, I'm running my resume past a few people to get it brushed up since I have had no nibbles, I'm re-examining my budget hardcore to find out my minimums, and I'm leaving.  I can't even smile here today, I haven't spoken to anyone, and I don't plan to anymore.  I'm a body in a chair, work will get finished when it does, and don't ask me for anything beyond a bare minimum.  I left yesterday without telling anyone because I was just so miserably frustrated and upset.  L is also actively leaving now b/c of some shennanigans that were pulled on him, but that ship might've sailed, b/c I'm kinda bored and over it all now.  IDK, I'm not chasing him, so if he leaves and he asks, I'd still say yes, but I'm not following up again.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I'm reaching the end of Umbrella Academy, The Boys is almost finished, and I have one episode of Peaky Blinders left.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do wth myself after all of this.  I'm building a sloth right now.  I'm excited for BFF coming in next weekend and having a small party.
  • My MIL has been wearing on me and I have to say I'm glad she and FIL are going out of town for a week.  Sometimes her lack of social awareness is too frustrating to deal with and I need a break.  There is no addressing her that will not make me the bad wife so I need to pick my battles and right now, I'm picking that this is an at home vacation.

I heard about the tampon shortage.  I can't wear them since having DefConn and I have super light periods due to my IUD, so I haven't looked in the period products aisle in a long time because I've had a bulk amount of pantiliners that have lasted me literal years.

But I am running out.  Does anyone have a recommendation for natural fiber (cotton?) pantiliners?  The ones I have are plastic-y/not natural and stink up the joint, IYKWIM?
  • @CharmedPam I’ve noticed a slight lack of supply, mainly the brands I “want” are sold out a lot but there’s still other options. I haven’t been purchasing them though since the IUD has made my periods super light. I only ever wear tampons now if I’m going out in a dress (rare) or swimming (even more rare). And congrats on the weight loss!

At work and waiting on my agreement for my new job. Trying not to stress. The recruiter told me yesterday the long weekend delayed things, which makes sense. I’m trying to study and I’m still trying to figure things out. One of our staff quit yesterday with only a three day notice (Friday is their last day) and I’m not sad about it. They gave me a lot of problems and accused me of some bullshit stuff so I’m glad they quit voluntarily. Otherwise SSDD.

  • My period itself is shorter so what I used to use in my 20s and even 30s I don't.   I found an organic cotton tampon that I prefer and would consider a cup but I just haven't wanted to make the investment.

For nights I have Thinx and they work fine.   I may get some teen pairs for Chiquita who will likely have hers by this time next year.
  • @charlotte989875, I don't know how many people are on your team, but is everyone supposed to invite everyone else, anytime there is a lunch outing?  That would be really bizarre.

    Rant:
Here's another reason why so many rental property owners don't take Section 8.  We had an inspection scheduled for June 16th.  Unfortunately, my H dislocated his shoulder shortly before it happened and one of our friends/workers who was there, drove him to the hospital.  Later that day, my H called the inspection company (HANO, my local S8 authority outsources this to a 3rd party company) to explain what happened and reschedule the inspection.

They told him , because this was the second "failed" inspection, they weren't able to reschedule it until S8 gave the okay.  He contacts our soon-to-be tenant to get their case worker's phone number.  She doesn't get back to him until a week later (6/23).  She's been displaced since Hurricane Ida, Sept. 2021.  So I'm not sure why she took so long (eyeroll).

He calls her case worker.  Dozens of times over the last two weeks.  Leaves another VM every 2-3 days.  Sends an e-mail.  We have NEVER been called back or given any response.  I know the case workers are busy.  I do.  But still.  WHAT A F**KING, INCOMPETENT AH!  It's been over two weeks, ffs.

Never mind that we're getting screwed out of over two weeks of rent for no reason.  But a big part of their job is to get their participants into housing.  So they're really screwing over the participant...and her two kids...that have been living cramped with family for the last 10 months.

I finally called the inspection company again on Tuesday.  I explained what was going on and asked if there was any way around this, since S8 was being totally uncommunicative.  He said, unfortunately no, but he did give me a different person's name and number.  That guy is their liaison with HANO.

My H called this guy.  He answered on the first call.  This person did the authorization on his end.  And, within one hour, we were able to call the inspection company and set up the next inspection for Tuesday (July 12).  Aaarrgghh!  So frustrating!  Why didn't the inspection company tell us the best person to call THREE weeks ago!  This whole thing has been outrageous.  Both for myself and the tenant.

For this situation, I'm mostly mad at HANO.  But we also had issues with how the inspection company handled things with the last unit we had to deal with, so I already think they suck.

We have one more unit to rent out for these duplexes.  It should be finished sometime this week.  And I am NOT renting it to a S8 tenant.  I would for my properties, in the future.  But my aggravation, especially over lost rental time, is now on overload for HANO and their inspection company.  I'm not dealing with them again for a long time.

    ------

Back to a normal post. It's my first Thursday heading to Costco after work for my scan gig.  It's been three weeks since I last did it!  But I'm ready with comfy shoes, a collapsible water bottle, fully charged phone, plus handheld battery charger.

Also really looking forward to Prudie.  I could definitely use the distraction today.

  • Nothing much going on here. Trying to keep cool and praying for rain. Our grass is so brown - even with an irrigation system. I'm headed to a friend's lake house on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to some floating and boat rides. I haven't been there since before the twins were born - crazy schedules and Covid to thank for that. I had to even think about what day it was - was thinking it was Friday until I saw Prudie posted.
  • @mrsconn23 I stopped using both and use diva cup - personally it's better and I find in general it's better for "the flow" of things. Less leakage risk, and since you can keep them in longer, you get any residual dealt with and not rogue drops
  • Ugh if this persists @charlotte989875, I think a visit to HR could be in order.  Even anonymously.

Nothing new here.  I have a real chillax weekend coming up only dealing with social events. So yay.  Also, I weighed myself and I’m the lowest since sleeve surgery in 2018. This is the time where I get all comfortable and cocky and then it goes up.  Must. Stay. On. Track.

eta; I haven’t purchased tampons in awhile since I’m on a lot of skipped period cycles - I was told yesterday we’re in a tampon shortage.  Is anyone experiencing this? I need to buy backs up… will I have a problem?
    I heard that also.

In fact, I bought a new box less than a month ago from Walgreens, but that was before I'd heard the storage.  The section was about 2/3rds empty, but I had just chalked it up to the area not being stocked yet.  That happens ALL the time where I live, in both Walmarts and grocery stores.

They still had my brand, so I didn't worry much about it.  TMI, the only tampons I've found that are comfortable for me are Playtex, plastic applicators only.

I'm good for about two months but, since I'm picky, I might need to keep my eye out in another month to get stocked up early.  If the shortage is still happening.

Actually, come to think of it, the last time I had it, I got a yeast infection from overuse and I DID tell myself I’d go to pads/liners.  It’s partly why I got permission to skip periods from my doc.

@ILoveBeachMusic, my grass is brown too! I can’t remember the last time I even mowed it.  It’s brown and not growing lol.  But I’ll take ugly grass over rain.

I can't wear tampons because of how my scar from my episiotomy healed and where it's positioned makes it an uncomfortable to painful experience. So I'm not sure anything I have to insert will work for me.  I mean, DH and I have to be careful about certain sex positions because of it.   Also I have an extremely light flow anyway due to having an IUD, so it's not worth it to change what I've done since having DefConn.

(Again, the shit you learn *after* having kids and the fact that pregnancy can completely change how your body experiences things permanently.  But yeah, we don't need comprehensive reproductive healthcare that takes the person's body who's affected by pregnancy/childbirth into consideration.  /rant)
Look into the period cups - there's a bunch and there might be one that helps with your issue

Otherwise, have you looked into Knix?
  • I use the Thinx underwear and I thought they’d be weird at first but I kind of love them!
  • The Thinx sleep shorts are my favorite period product I've ever worn.

I may get the shorts for Chiquita.  I'm hoping they have extra coverage because my teen years were when I found myself having the greatest issues.

  • I feel like they do! And because they're attached to the shorts the don't move around as much as the underwear do for active sleepers!

Oh this is great.  I will start to watch for signs in my kiddo so we can be "ready".  She's already told me how she's not going to want to use tampons and I'm hoping she may change her mind or she's going to be in for an interesting summer.
  • Also, Target has their own line of Thinx brand stuff that in my opinion is very comparable (fabrics are slightly different and fewer options for cuts) but overall quality is the same at a lower price point!

Thinx also has a younger teen package that has a few different cuts to try out what works so that might be a good option. I find they have a good butt coverage and are pretty comfortable. The highest absorbency was too much for me and felt like a diaper/ bathing suit but the medium ones are great!

I definitely don't like to wear them during the day but I change into them as my "nighttime" undies.  DH refers to them as my rubber underwear.

    I wasn't super comfortable with tampons until probably late senior year {the summer I was graduated more so}
They were so uncomfortable for me and thinking back, I probably didn't use proper ones
  • Weird thought .... ever wonder what the other side of some of these Prudie stories are?
I was just thinking how former friends made me into the bad person and if they wrote to prudie, how it'd sound.

I started in middle school.  The thing for us is that we live in a beach town and own a boat.  No, you don't "need" to go in the water but I had a long period as a teen.  With summer 8 weeks at best, that's 2-3 weeks of no swimming or water play.  It's up to her but I have a feeling based on her personality that she's going to want to use them vs. sit out activities.

Nah that's fair. I found tampons uncomfortable. Like I used them, but wasn't a fan.
I really only was ok them after I lost my v-card - which makes me think I didn't have right ones

    Often!

I think we, as people, tend to side with whomever is telling the story anyway.  Then on top of that, most people will tell a story that puts them in the best light.

In my own life, I try to always think about someone else's POV, "How is the other person/company feeling? How would they be viewing this situation?  What are they looking for?"

Stepping into someone else's shoes, so to speak.  I think it's a good exercise to better understand people and broaden my own horizons.  And for selfish reasons when it is a "give and take" situation, if I better understand someone else's motivation, then I'm more likely to find a win-win solution that we are both happy with.

This concept is especially important on job interviews.  It's so easy to fall back on why I want the job.  So when I go on a job interview, to get away from that train of thought, I'm thinking of myself more as a consultant.  They have a problem(s).  What are the ways I can help them solve their problems.  Not the reverse

    -------------------------------

Here's a straight-forward, no emotions example of that.  When I bought my first home (bank-owned foreclosure), I put down a 20% deposit in order to avoid PMI.  But that.  Plus having some of the highest insurance in the country.  Plus my property taxes not being under a Homestead exemption yet.  Meant that I was having to bring an eye-dropping amount of money to the closing table.  Just the escrows were around $7K, which was almost 9% of the purchase price!  Which I realize aren't perfectly related to each other, but still.  I even had to borrow some money from my mom to cover it all.  I knew I was going to walk away from closing, cash-poor.

In Louisiana, the seller can put up to 6% of the purchase price toward closing.  This is very commonly done.  I put in a counter offer.  I didn't ask for a reduction on the list price at all, but I did ask for the full 6%.  They countered back at only 3%.

Me:  "Hmmm.  I need as much as I can get taken off of the closing cost.  How can I make them pay 6%?"

And then it hit me.  The seller is a bank.  The only thing they care about is the money on the bottom line.  That's what THEY want.  I countered back raising my purchase price by 3%...which would be baked into the loan, not paid at closing...and they would give me the full 6% concession toward closing.  It was the exact same amount of money to them, so they're happy.  I got what I primarily wanted, paying less at closing, so I'm happy.

There's DEFINITELY a good vs. not good fit situation there.  I could only use Playtex and STILL don't buy Tampax unless I'm caught somewhere by surprise.  Now there are at least other brands that are OK.
