Tuesday?

Good afternoon all.  Kinda SSDD here...hoping everyone is feeling well

Re: Tuesday?

  • It's crappy weather here so M took BK to her first theater movie.

He was going to do "super pets" but I suggested Minions - I think it's a shorter run time? Also she'll recognize minions from merch everywhere
  • Getting ready to go get my hair cut and colored. I've been packing for vacation (leaving Friday). Tomorrow and Thursday I'll be cleaning the house and finishing up packing.

Last night we had Ladies Night out from church. I made a goat cheese garlic dip that was in the Costco magazine. It was delicious. I'm always looking for more app recipes and this was a winner.
  • Oioh sounds fancy @ILoveBeachMusic

SSDD here too. It’s a work from home day but I’m opposite of the rest of the world and I get so bored at home and prefer being in the office.  I have noone to talk to at home!  At least I have conversations here.

  • Not much going on over here either.  Counting the days until summer and hurricane season ends.

I'm trying to get motivated to do a few things in my personal life.  But I'm in a funk, which makes it even harder than usual to do anything but the bare minimum.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • @short+sassy What are you trying to do in your personal life? Maybe I can help reduce the funk time
  • Meetings all morning and eating a quick lunch before even more meetings.
  • I'm WFH all week and i agree with you Pam, i prefer to be in the office most of the time as well.  H is feeling better and the rest of us are still negative with no symptoms.  Trying to take advantage of a slow WFH week and get some stuff done around the house in between calls.  We ordered chick-fil-a for lunch though so i'm excited about that :)
  • Back in the office today after a long weekend in OCMD, so naturally I'm feeling depressed. Probably won't be back at the beach for a while and that always makes me sad. But we all had such a great time. I was pleasantly surprised by OC.
  • I do that too, @mrsconn23.  And my plants are also out of control, so my scratches are coming.

  • @short+sassy What are you trying to do in your personal life? Maybe I can help reduce the funk time
I'm going to a 3-day seminar in September with my H.  It's about investing in short-term rentals.  But we were given "homework" to complete before going.  We've had months to do it and have started on it, but haven't done much.  I haven't even made my hotel reservations.  Such an easy thing to do, but I still haven't done it.  I'm just disappointed with myself.  I feel like I self-sabotage sometimes and I don't know why I do that.

I also need to make an appointment with a doctor that specializes in weight loss.  I'm especially interested in talking about a new drug out there called Wegovy (semagultide).  But it's not going to do me much good if I don't get into better habits with food and exercise.  I've done it before and I usually do well, once I get into the swing of it.  But it's hard for me to get into the swing of it.  At any rate, I'd like to have a good 30 days of eating better and exercising more, before I see a doctor.

Because if I have any chance at all of losing weight, it will take both Herculian efforts on my part and medical intervention.  But I like my life easy and non-Herculian, lol.

I'm too lazy to cook, most of the time, so that is part of the problem.  It's one of those, I don't hate cooking.  But I don't like spending the time doing it, either.  I need to discipline myself to cook healthy foods and snacks in batches each week, so it's easier for me to "grab and go" for all meals during the week.

On a plus side, I've had less appetite for the last few weeks.  I'm not really sure why.  But I've been using it to my advantage to eat less and get my body used to fewer calories.  But I'm still grabbing crappy, high carb, highly processed, low nutrition foods for breakfast because they are super fast and shelf stable.  Like a snack-size bag of Cheez-Its or one of those packs of peanut butter crackers.

There are even some easy options there, I just need to get in the habit of buying them and bringing them to work.  Like bringing in slices of cheese with turkey or ham for breakfast/lunch.  Or those pouches of flavored tuna (shelf stable until opened, bonus).

I could go on and on about other things I want to do, but it's my own self holding me back.  But the establishing better food/exercise habits and getting ready for my seminar are the two short-term goals I have, that I haven't been making much progress with.

  • @VarunaTT, bad dreams are so frustrating like that.  The one time you should be able to be at peace is while sleeping, but then bad dreams don't even let you rest.  It can help to do monotonous things and at least falling into work is a productive outlet for that.  I know it doesn't help much when the grief is fresh, but it does get easier with time.

@short+sassy my friend was asking me about a semagultide, because it’s basically like my ozempic.  I don’t think she can get it because it’s out of her insurance (and basically only prescribed to diabetics).  But I will say ozempic doesn’t really make me fuller faster or stay full… but my stomach kinda hurts when I eat.  Kind like a nauseous feeling.  And that’s what makes me stop eating.  I have lost weight while on it (but then again a doctor also sucked 7.1 liters of fat outta me too, so take that with a grain of salt lol). But maybe the ozempic is helping me keep it off?

@climbingsingle, work day back from a vaca? Suuuucks
@missJeanLouise, I’m sorry you’ll be down to 2.  I know you’ll be leaving soon too though, so there’s that.
@mrsconn23 thanks for that mental picture :)

edit: @VarunaTT all your feels you’re feeling are justified.  Take how ever long you need to get your affairs in order (order that furniture).  There is no set time limit.

  • @VarunaTT  Grief is weird. I had insomnia after my dad, and it took awhile to fade out. There was a time frame between death and celebration of life, and I don't think I really slept much that entire time.
When I did sleep, I'd have also weird nightmares.
  • @short+sassy I do overnight oats, and make a batch that lasts me the week.  I find it helps me eat a lot less.  But at the same time, I had to get used to eating less sugar with breakfast, and that was an adjustment.  It's just four cups oats, two cups scotch oats (it makes the texture a lot better), a tablespoon of cinammon, a tablespoon of unsweeted cocoa (I do this for taste, you can do whatever), and then 6 cups water.  and you mix it, let it sit overnight, then leave it in your fridge until breakfast and microwave a bowl.  I add raisins to it for sweetness, but I could just add sugar.

That is my only healthy tip.  I am very out of shape and need to exercise more.  I've noticed my arm strength and stamina have gone down a lot this year.  But like you, I'm just struggling with motivation to get up and do something about it.  I really need to start exercising, and stop buying candy.

You are singing the song of my people!  I am in the same damn boat.  Especially #$*?)*& candy.

The worst is the 50% off candy.  Candy is already impossible to resist, and now you are giving me a deal?

I actually worked out for the first time in weeks this morning! It felt good and after it I was like “why did you stop?!”

I got excited about the bolded...then, ooohhh (pouty face), jk.  Thanks for the suggestion.  One thing I've always had going for me is I've never had much of a sweet tooth.  And I largely avoid sugar anyway because of my diabetes.

So I don't eat sugary carbs very often.  But I love, too much, the non-sugary carbs.  Like crackers and potato chips.

@CharmedPam, from what I've read up on, you need to be overweight or obese to qualify for Wegovy, but you don't necessarily need to be diabetic.  It's for people with a bmi of 30 or greater.  Or people with a bmi that's between 27-29, who also have a weight related comorbidity.

I have a high deductible insurance anyway and basically have to pay everything out of pocket.  Hmmm.  I just looked it up again.  I thought it wasn't very expensive, relatively speaking.  Like $150/month  But no.  The retail price is a lot more, but I have the impression there are a lot of programs you can go hunting and pecking for to bring the cost down by a lot.

I know my insurance, even though it doesn't pay for anything, does sometimes allow me to get massive discounts on prescriptions.  So, perhaps.  I should probably call them.

Here's an example.  A 5-pack box of insulin pens that lasts me about 3 weeks is retail price $550-$600.  But with my insurance's discount, I pay $35 for two boxes, ie an $1100 value.  That is NOT a copay.  That's me paying 100% of the cost, but with the negotiated discount my insurance company has with Eli Lilly.  I just always like to use this as an example of what massive POS pharmaceutical companies...or maybe it's pharmacies (probably both)...are.  I also used to buy this exact same box/brand from Canada for $135/box.  It's disgusting the "norm" in the US is to sell it for a grossly overinflated price.

  • @short+sassy ok first of all, write it all down. For me, I'm extremely visual.
If I write it down, I can remind myself I need to do it and if you need it like a certain timeline {like seminar} write it everywhere!
    Phone reminders. Calendar. etc.

It also sounds like you're overwhelming yourself.
I know if I have too much on my plate, I just shut down and do nothing.

Yeah I think her doctor wanted to put her on it, because she met all those requirements but her insurance said no. She needs to be diabetic in order for her insurance to cover it.  And it may not have been that brand but it was a semagultide she was talking about. There’s never clear communication with doctors and insurance policies.  Docs can subscribe you anything but your insurance can deny it.  It happened to me when my doc upped my ozempic.  He wanted me on more but my insurance was like nope, you need a different brand for that, and that brand isn’t covered so $950/pen.

I, legit, no joke, downloaded a sobriety app to stop eating candy. It was getting out of control, like 2 bags of gummi dinosaurs a day. Not the little ones you send in school lunches, like the kind you would get from the candy aisle of a gas station. I still have no moderation when it come to the stuff.

I could see her insurance wouldn't cover Ozempic, because (I think) the FDA classifies it as a drug that helps T2 diabetes, so insurance won't approve it for anything other than that.

But next time she sees her doctor, she should try for Wegovy.  The FDA just approved it a couple months ago.  It was approved by them specifically for weight loss.

Or if it was Wegovy, it could be because her BMI is too low to meet the qualifications.

I went to a hypnotist to stop this.  We have fun size candy bars in our kitchen and everytime i go into it (almost everytime) I grab one :(
hypnotism didn’t help. Do you like the app @missJeanLouise? And what is it?

Thanks @short+sassy! I’ll mention that brand to her because I can’t remember if she told me what she wanted to be on or just said “a semagultide”.  But I actually like the feeling of “ugh, my stomach hurts, I can’t eat anymore” verses “ugh I’m full, I can’t eat anymore” because I can eat through my fullness.

  • My go to quick healthy breakfasts are hard boiled eggs and 2% plain Greek yogurt. I like it with honey and fruit but more often than not I’m running late and just eat it plain.
  • @CharmedPam the app is Meh. I knew it would work for me because I am the time of "people" pleaser that will not eat candy to earn an online star. I just wanted to reset my habits and get awareness of how bad it actually was. I eat candy like an alcoholic. I wouldn't be able to take just one fun sized candy, I would eat the whole thing. It is ridiculous. It is all or nothing for me.
  • I wish broccoli would taste as good as snickers does.
