Yay..better than Monday.

Re: Hump Day

  • I can’t tell if my old cold is back again or if I have a new cold. Not the best day to be leading an in person presentation
  • Doing okay here. Less than 2 weeks before movers come and it still doesn't feel real somehow.
Last Saturday DH took DS to the climbing gym, because DS turned 4 last month and can finally go. DS absolutely loved it. So I took him back today. He climbed the 10meter wall at least 5 or 6 times. He asked to go again tomorrow but it is too pricey to do every day. Hoping there will be something he can do in our next city. I have spent the last couple days trying to sew some tote bags for my trainer and work out buddy but I have needed to order one thing or another basically every step of the way. At this point, if the last piece arrives before the movers it will be a miracle.
  • Wow, @missJeanLouise that came so fast. Hope you guys start to feel more settled soon.  Do you have housing and/orjobs lined up where you're going yet?
  • Hooray, it is hump day.  It snowed here, enough to have to shovel.  But I don't want to shovel .... part of me is hoping the sun comes out and melts it.  But then it will freeze overnight and be ice, so can't win.  My rabbit ran out of his pen so happy, then realized he was chest deep in snow, freaked out, and now is back in his heated pen.  It was cute.  The chickens don't seem to mind the snow though!

  • I sent Chiquita to school and have my fingers crossed.  Her cough is better but still not great.  The school is just a petri dish of grossness.
  • No snow here yet but we’re in there path of potentially 1-3 feet by Sunday. We’re probably closer to the low end but should be fun if we get a lot. It’s just rain and sleet right now but hoping it changes soon. I’m WFH because I’m not dealing with the commute as the snow is starting.

Daycare is also a Petri dish so I feel you @banana468. M has had another runny nose and cough but no fever so he went too.

This time of year is always the suck if you have kids.  I'm hoping to get through the holidays OK.  Between Thanksgiving and Christmas and a December birthday it is such a PITA.
  • @short+sassy That's really cool!  I wish I could find some of Brunnhilde's siblings.  I am pretty sure the breeder was in the area.  And it would solve the mystery of what she is mixed with.  We are about 99% sure she is Rottweiler/Australian shepherd.

  • How funny @short+sassy. My SIL just did the same thing for my new “niece.” Lol. She had two half siblings in the area and they looked pretty similar!

At work reluctantly today. My dad was in the ER yesterday. Yesterday morning I called my mom to check up on her and she told me my dad’s left leg (same side affected from the stroke) was cold, pale, and she couldn’t find any pulses. So I told her to go in. She went to UC who of course sent them to ER and he spent all day yesterday getting worked up for a clot. Initial Doppler for the leg was negative so then they did a whole body scan. He was sent home and told it was most likely a vascular spasm. I really hope that’s true and there’s not a lost loose clot wandering around somewhere. Last thing we need is another stroke or PE or heart attack.

Work is being a little annoying. A while back they told me I would work half day from home Tuesday, and then three 12 hours W-F. Then it was three 12 hours with every other Saturday while we don’t have coverage for UC. Then two days ago it was the three 12 hour shifts and every other Saturday for Primary Care. When I pushed back and said I thought the weekends were only for UC coverage they tried to gaslight me and say that was never the case. So now not only am I losing out on a whole weekend day every other week, but I will also still have patients, when before I was going to have four hours of admin time a week to catch up. So I’ll be working even more than originally discussed. I am disgruntled.

  • My short timer's syndrome is BAD.  So is my attitude.  But as one friend stated, "If they wanted you to be pleasant and helpful in your last 2 weeks, they should've been more pleasant and helpful to you in the last 6 years".  And she's right.  So, I'm doing my best to prep for transition for others and not much else.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I have my Zoom consult with the boudoir photographer tonight, so I'm looking forward/nervous about that.  The shoot won't be until late January, which is great, since I'm not sure what I'm going to be walking into in the new job.
  • Sounds fun, V. I'm sure your pictures will turn out great.

  • Ugh.  Blow to morale.  The comps for my properties came out to substantially less than what I was thinking.  I'm not surprised I was too high.  I was making educated guesses and didn't want to sell myself short when I was posting private listings.  I just didn't expect to be as low as it is.

  • You are holding it down in here. Sucks that it's so slow. I feel like I have a few random post topics in me. Let me see what I can do. :)

Very cute and thorough testing @short+sassy hope everyone feels better soon.  My achey body and headaches seem to be gone.  I never got the flu shot before, but do all vaccines make you have a
sore arm days after? There’s nothing we can do to prevent that in 2022?
My sister and nieces arrive Friday and we have a night at Great Wolf Lodge.  I just added the wolf pass with a bunch of junk they don’t need (I did it mostly for the build-bear souvenir they can get) and I can’t wait to spoil them and give them good vacation memories!

    edit; after I sent this I got this text;
We are looking forward to your upcoming stay at Great Wolf Lodge. As our valued guest, we want make you aware of temporary, periodic closures at some of our water park attractions due to seasonal staffing issues. However, we remain confident your family will have a great time at the lodge.
Ummmm can you tell me what those are? Because we’re basically staying for the water park….

  • I just read a funny post about winters in Wisconsin.  As you all know, one of our biggest concerns if we choose Madison.  So I paid a lot of attention to the responses.

The OP lives in San Diego, but got a great job offer in La Crosse, WI and was looking for info.

Another person commented, "...the winters in La Crosse are colder than Chicago.  Ask people from Chicago how they feel about winter."

  • @short+sassy winters are not that bad.  Honestly.  Invest in a great coat and boots, make sure you have a good snowblower/hire someone to do that and it's fine.  Unless you love winter sports, there's really no reason to be outside for long periods of time so the cold isn't that big a deal.  Infrastructure and public works are built to deal with this and generally do a great job keeping roads clear (I'm assuming driving in the winter is a big concern, and it does take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, it's fine.
  • I just ordered WAY more holiday Jammie’s for me and M than is actually necessary but I love them. H says that he’ll participate if we really want him to but that he won’t wear them again so it’s just me and M and I love them!
  • As someone who lives an hour from LaCrosse, WI, I'll agree with @Casadena.  We are equipped to deal with winter.  Homes are more insulated, infrastructure is here and warm clothing is readily available.  I work with a number of folks from FL and AZ.  Seems like they mostly stay indoors when it's super hot (AZ) and hot/humid (FL).  Same when it's cold here in the winter.  If you have remote start with your vehicle, you can go from your heated home, to your heated car to your heated destination.

Same, but in Buffalo! We have plows, salt trucks, infrastructure for the weather so that unless things are really bad we don’t really shut down.

The 1-3 feet of snow that is forecasted here will make things slow for periods and a lot of people will work from home but generally things won’t close/ get canceled unless it’s coming down at a really high rate of snowfall
  • I think the only times my GB coworkers complain about the cold are when they're going to Packers games in January.

I'm frustrated with the school bus company and trying to figure out how to form a response if I have one.  There are a shortage of drivers and Chiquita's bus has had to split into routes shared by more than one driver.  As a result, we're getting updates often after she's picked up in the morning that the bus route will be different and possibly delayed.

Today's update is that the routes tomorrow and Friday will also be adjusted and our children could be picked up "earlier or later" than normal.

I'm reaching the point where I want to respond as nicely as possible asking what is their plan to get this information to parents in at least real time and to send us the updated routes? If the drivers are getting updated routes we can have them.  I hate to sound like a whiny mother but the bus routes can be upwards of over 30 minutes.  When should my kid go outside?  Just go early and wait?  Right now that's my approach but I'm loathe to tell my 7th grader that because the town's bus company can't get its act together that she should be bundled up in extra layers for when the bus comes...eventually. If I can't tell the school that *I* will drop my kid off....eventually why is that something that flies for the busses?
  • @banana468 could your district look into the Here Comes the Bus app? Maybe it could be brought up at the next board meeting? That’d bother me too!

Thanks to yourself and the other PPs.  I do feel better with the assurances that buildings/roads/cars and the right clothing/shoes make it fine.  Or at least fine enough.  I more thought it was a funny comment because on that same forum a lot of Chicago* people complain about how cold it is there, though that is a city recommended a lot, especially for younger/single people.

The bolded is what I picture because I do the same thing in the summer.  I avoid the outdoors and quickly scuttle from one air-conditioned place to the next.

*While Chicago is not on our radar at all for a number of reasons, I am always amazed at how affordable it is for such a big city.  I totally understand why people recommend it.  Lots of opportunity and good paying jobs, yet it's still a MCOL place.

  • I took a sick day today.  Still did a tiny bit of work and just hopped off a meeting, but have been mostly lazy.  My cold hasn't progressed, but I still feel just 'ugh'.   DefConn also stayed home one more day.  He's doing OK and hasn't wanted cold meds, but his cough still sounds pretty rough.  He told me he wants to go back to school tomorrow. We did get through his schoolwork that we could find on the website or papers in his folder so he's not going back behind.

It's been snowing here all afternoon.  It's not really sticking since it's slightly above freezing.

I'm bored and there's 100 things I could watch.  I can't decide on any of them.  LOL

Back in the day, you could say that about Chicago and Chicagoland, but it’s becoming more and more expensive lately. My utily bills, property tax, gas etc is getting up there.
Cold doesn’t bother me but the snow does.  It definitely slows you down/throws a wrench in your plans.

  • That's so interesting about the cold. One of my teammates who lives in an tropical climate (south pacific) just shared today that she's moving to Winnipeg. In January. Atlanta is the "coldest" place she's ever visited. I'm dying to see what she thinks.

    Oh, you mean Winterpeg?
