Wedding Woes

Thursday

This week has been a weird combo of feeling super fast and slow.  I get home and I'm so wiped, I've been going to bed at 7.  Just a lot of training (most of it are things I know how to do, just haven't in a long time and not in their particular way) and talking.  The woman in charge of most of my training is just someone who is a  loud talker, so sometimes it makes my ears ring.  I'm still having a little bit of trouble with that left ear and that's probably a blessing in disguise.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Not too much personally going on.  I slept like I was dead last night and didn't have as many wake ups as I have been having, so that was nice.  I feel so much better, not going to that toxic job.  I've left my reviews on indeed and glassdoor and that's all I can do.  I do feel like everyone around me has been getting sick, so I've definitely been hunkering in at home.  This weekend is First Friday and I haven't been out to one in forever.  But also the new Willow series dropped, I'm still not finished with Wednesday, and WoW's new expansion came out on the 28th and I haven't had time to get on and play at all.  So it might be an indoor weekend anyway.

Re: Thursday

  • Not much here- it’s cold and windy. Work was super busy yesterday and a little slower today.

The work on the house is going SO SLOW and H is really getting frustrated. They’re already 2 weeks past the original finish time and we’re no where close to being done. The floors *might* be finished today but we still have bookshelves, the fireplace, windows, replacing the front door, stairs all left to do. H had scheduled to talk to the contractor yesterday and he just ignored Hs calls. I know work always takes much longer and it’s frustrating.
  • After 2 rounds of pink eye, even though I'm pretty sure I didn't use it - I've decided to replace my mascara.
I already have a new eye cream I'm trying out, so we'll see.

    Who has a good mascara they like {sephora or drug store brands fine - willing to spend for a good one}
  • I got super annoyed at my whole family this morning bc it was one of those days we could just NOT get out the door. The kids both slept in randomly and then took for-ev-ER to eat breakfast. I know H is genuinely trying to be helpful but i might lose my mind next time he asks "what can i do to help" in the middle of the chaos. I know it's bc period week starts tomorrow but OMG. I missed an optional 8am meeting i really wanted to join and also realized i forgot my lunch - i'm super bummed about it and will have to use a lot of willpower to not order too much Chipotle at lunchtime.

This mood is dangerous for retail therapy options and I think i'm going to pull the trigger on one of the bags i've been debating all week.

other than that, SSDD at work.  Just trying not to touch my eyeballs and looking exhausted bc i can't wear makeup.
  • Except i just went to checkout and the sale is over and now i'm crying and it's hurting my eyes.  Hormones are a bitch.
  • @VarunaTT I'm so glad the new job seems like such a good fit for you!!

@charlotte989875 that's infuriating that they wont even communicate with you. I hope you get some answers soon.
  • It's been a weird week around here too.  There were some cuts made at work yesterday, so that made things very tense.  There was so much whispering and speculation.  My dept was not impacted, but I know many of the people who were.  I have feelings about all of this especially being a part of management and hearing so much more than I ever did as an associate.

Also, my friend who's been in the process of getting divorced for-ev-er went to court yesterday.  Things went in her favor (like I knew they would), but she still has to live with him for the rest of this month.  I'm more worried than ever for her, because he's definitely showing he's not going to take this lying down.  I'm hopeful she sees how she holds all of the cards and doesn't hesitate to use that power if he gets really dumb.

SSDD otherwise.  Glad we don't really have major plans this coming weekend.  A little calm before the calamity of the rest of December.  I'm going to try to knock out all of my nephew's gifts over the weekend.
  • @MissKittyDanger I've been using L'Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara as a dupe for Better Than Sex Mascara and it's been lovely.  My lashes are thin and long with blond tips.  This one (and Better Than did too) seems to hit the right notes of thickening and lengthening, b/c I need both.
  • @MissKittyDanger mascara is my favorite makeup and my all-time favorite is Maybelline Volume Express.  I think the brush is the best.

Thanks for the recommendation.  This exactly describes what my lashes are like.  I don't wear mascara that often, but I think I would more if I had a good one.

I was so inspired, I went to Amazon and have already ordered the L'Oreal one you mentioned, lol.

  • I've been pretty MIA lately. Work has been crazy, which is to be expected as this is our busy season.

Things are good. We finally finished tiling the kitchen and laundry room floors, so things are mostly back to normal. Now we can get the Xmas tree this weekend and start decorating.

Mascara - I've tried everything out there - both cheap and expensive. My favorite remains Neutrogena Healthy Volume.
  • Re: mascara, for a long time my favorite has been the Clinique High Impact Mascara, but I’m excited to try some of the recommendations here. Tbh I hated the Better than Sex Mascara. I feel like I’m in the minority with that.

I’m in urgent care alone today after a holiday. Pray for me. I’m going to lose my mind with people who come in for cough or sore throat of one day. Otherwise mostly SSDD. Hoping desperately the car starts after work. We put the float chargers on half of yesterday and all last night. It started when I got home and we drove it around a little, then charged it more. So hopefully it gets me through to the weekend.

Sorry about the delay in construction @charlotte989875

Im happy to hear your new job is going so well! @varunaTT

I’m sorry to hear about the layoffs @mrsconn23. That’s so stressful, and right before the holidays too.

    *hugs* @casadena

How festive @ei34! My nieces would prefer books over candy any day!
@STARMOON44 word on the weight. I gained over last week too and I know it’ll be doubly hard to lose in December.  Is it Europe you’re going to? I forgot…
    nice to see you @climbingsingle
for mascara my #1 problem is it rubbing off my hooded lid, even when it’s completely dry.  Blinc amplified is the only one that hasn’t, thus my new go to. And I’m almost to the point of wearing eye make up again!!!
@charlotte989875 how frustrating! Good work is really hard to find. My friend is going through a remodel nightmare (second crew now, and VERY little hours worked).
edit; @Casadena  oooooh yeah, it’s over.  We got them just in time!

last night I went to a light show, it was 22 but with windchills, felt low teens.  COLD AF. And the display was mediocre.  Very underwhelming, we zoomed through it in 35-40.  It was a bust after going to another better one 2 weeks ago.

  • @charlotte989875, good luck with the reno.  I'm sorry to hear it is taking so long and that the contractor was ghosting your H yesterday.  It's very frustrating.

    @STARMOON44, yay upcoming vacation!

@mrsconn23, I'm sorry to hear there have been cuts at your work. At least it is not affecting your department, but it's still sad when it has affected coworkers you know.

My BIL was in management at his previous company.  He told me an awful story where he knew layoffs were coming, but it was still hush-hush at that time.  A guy in his department, that he knew he was going to be laid off at some point, was excitedly house-hunting and putting in offers.  It was so hard for my BIL to watch it and not be able to say anything.

My H said the photography for our listing photos seemed to go well yesterday.  He's also been doing much-needed and very overdue projects around our own house this week!  Without my having to prod and nag him about it, so that was a bit of a relief.

  • Anyone have suggestions for a birthday present for a 3 year old boy that I don't know well? G got invited to his first birthday party in a couple weeks but I'm lost. My boys love trucks, but don't need anymore.  Maybe a book? Is that lame?

    P.S. i ordered the chipotle.
  • I've tried several mascaras but always end up going back to L'Oreal Voluminous Original waterproof.  I have long but sparse lashes and this makes them fuller and holds the curl I need to put in with an eyelash curler.  It's easily removable with make-up remover wipes but doesn't smudge or flake during the day.

Such a coincidence, because I'm (probably) getting chipolte for dinner!  I very rarely go there because they are only out in the suburbs.  But they have a garlic guajillo steak I've been wanting to try.  I have an Old Navy purchase to pick-up that is in the same shopping center.  Today is the last day to pick-up the order.

That's my annoyance.  Thursday is when I start my weekly Costco scan.  So it's already a long night.  I was going to pick up the order and hit that Chipolte last night.  But there was some event around the Superdome last night and it would have made getting to the suburbs an even larger nightmare than it already is, so I bailed on that plan.

Edited to add:  Holy s**t!  I was just looking up the Chipolte number for that location to verify that they are really open until 10PM tonight.  And discovered there is a NOLA location near my work.

My waistline did not, NOT need to know this information, lol.

  • @levioosa what did you hate about the better than sex mascara?
  • @Casadena for that age I always give a book and then little junk, like stickers, hot wheels, stamps, finger puppets, maybe some sweets if I know it's okay with the parents. 3 is when DS started getting into activity books (I like the reusable water pen ones) and kids reference books (Usborne makes great ones). Kids love small toys but lose interest so little things that don't take up a lot of space or cost a lot of money I think are great.

Magnitiles are my go to 3 year old present!
  • @CharmedPam Singapore and Malaysia
  • Today was a fine day. We talked to our landlord yesterday and he is going to let us stay in our place until we need to leave so we cancelled our hotel bookings. We still might do a staycation in Dubai because there are somethings I want to do before we go. I just didn't realize it until it was time to go. 😂
The past couple days, DH and I have been taking it easy. I got a Mani/Pedi today and added a 30 min neck/shoulder rub on a whim. I need to go back for a proper rub down. I didn't realize how much tension I had been carrying.

Other than that, DH and I are of very different minds when it comes to telling people we may not be moving back to the state. He doesn't want to say anything until we know for sure what our plans are and I don't want his mom sending Christmas presents to my sister's house and then be disappointed because the kids aren't going to open them on Christmas. I understand his perspective but I know I would want to know about changes like this sooner rather than later
  • Would you be able to still go home for Christmas?
  • oh my, I did not know that! Sounds awesome @STARMOON44!

@short+sassy let me know if you like it.  I found it dry.  Good, not overly salty or anything (my worry) but kinda tasted like sawdust lol.
I put an order in as a bowl, and customized the veggies as “xtra”. The lady handed me the bag when I told her my name at pick up without even looking at me.  She looked at the wall!  I went home and found out why.  Xtra the veggies to a bowl and you get 2 meals for the price of one!

  • How long until you know for sure what you’re doing @missJeanLouise? I’m like you- I’d want to give people a heads up things might not be happening as the expect if it impacts them, but also I do get not wanting to say anything until you know for sure.
  • Would you be able to still go home for Christmas?
Able to? Sure. Will we? No. Our families are all spread out (NE, SC, CT) so it would create more drama than necessary if we only went to one location.

RE: Singapore and Malaysia. Are you backpacking around or just using it as convenient luggage? Not sure if that question makes sense.... I mean, will you be carrying your pack on hikes or from one hotel room to the next? If you are checking your bag on your flights, make sure to get it wrapped at the airport (or get a plane bag, or even heavy duty trash bags) so the straps don't get caught in the conveyor belts and ruin it

@charlotte989875 technically, we have flights booked on the 13th. If we don't know by the 12th, we'll get on the plane. (Although we could just rebook them for later). Today and Friday are a National holiday so no work is getting done but we should know more by next week.

It does make sense and just hotel to hotel! It’s actually carry on size which is great
  • Anyone else kinda scared of this railroad strike? If you think the grocery store is expensive now…..

  • @STARMOON44 That is great! I was picturing a big Osprey type hiking backpack. I don't think I could do a whole vacation with just a carryon. You are a badass!
