Wedding Woes

Wet Wednesday

The rain continues.  Feel bad for my kids who are desperate for snow and keep complaining that it's dry on the cold days and then warms up for rain instead of snow (they'll appreciate the pressure/climate unit in Earth Science someday).  My car is making a funny noise so might bring it to the mechanic after work today.  Otherwise pretty SSDD.  How's everyone else?

Re: Wet Wednesday

  • @ei34, I hope your car is okay!

The buyer who had a showing yesterday wasn't interested.  Poo.  But we have one more today and another one tomorrow.

I went out to dinner with my neighbor/friend last night.  We were supposed to go to a new Thai restaurant in our neighborhood.  But, when we got there, they were closed.  We went to another nearby restaurant.  Also closed as well as the one next to it.  Then we got wise and checked online first for a 4th restaurant we were thinking about.  Also closed, lol.  Tuesdays are the standard day for restaurants to be closed, if they aren't open 7 days/week.  At least in our area.  I just didn't realize how prevalent that was!

But we finally struck some luck with a restaurant called Mandinas.  They have been around for generations and their food is delicious.  Last night was no exception!  It was so nice to get out and do something relaxing on a weekday night.

Ha, the same thing happens here. We’re supposed to be in 3 days a week and the last update is that VPs and below are coming in 1-2 days and SVPs (who we are explicitly told to be in 3 days) are coming in maybe 2. People are just not having it.
  • It's been meetings for past 2 days and onboarding info. I have 3 yellow papers full of info.

BK is much better so going to school today. She never had a fever so it made it easier to decide to send her. She has a bit of cough BUT we have her on stuff just to help move the phlegm there.

    Dentist appt this morning.
I'm hungry and tired because I couldn't have coffee.

Plaque is likely bigger cause of the cavities, so cleaning would help reduce them.
  • That sounds really fun @Casadena
@banana468 do you do the Essex ride?  I've looked into that one, it looks really nice.  We do the Polar Express ride in Whippany NJ because it's closer but have looked into yours too...love a holiday train ride, hope the weather turns around for you guys
    Yay for your countdown @MyNameIsNot!
  • @CharmedPam hahahahahaha!  That's Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds!  I am NOT that pregnant nor am I a Claus.    I am going to see if Mrs. Claus smells like cinnamon and sangria as Ryan Reynolds said.  That picture was taking in a train car from the place we're going tonight.

Yes!  We live all of 15 minutes from that station so while Deadpool and wife drove from Westchester county up here we can do it on a week night, go out for pizza (there's a really good place by the train station in Old Saybrook that has small trains all around - it's great to keep the train theme going!) and still be home for an on-time bedtime.

I absolutely love it and if you ever want to do it next year I'm happy to alert you when the tickets go on sale.  They're only slightly less hot than tickets to see Taylor Swift and all train rides literally sell out in about an hour or less after ticket sales start.
  • @Casadena you definitely deserve some fun times.

DH and I are at a crossroads and it is SO HARD! Every time we think we have the decision made, the other option rings a bell. Yesterday we pushed our flights out until January 17th and applied for DS's school. Today DH got an offer from the US company he has been talking to. It's not as much money as here, which is expected, but does offer the usual benefits of 401k, bonuses and such, plus 30 days PTO. Plus being remote and living in my "lower" cost of living hometown.... It's not a bad offer by any means.
But the offer here is more money. Plus, logistically, it is easier to stay, staying has a lot of Pros like weather (I would take 120* over 12* any day of the week), travel, experiences, lifestyle, education.... The only things missing are family, conveniences, and DH liking his job.

    😫😫😫
  • @missJeanLouise if you did decide to stay, how much longer do you think you'd be there?  Just curious since you've mentioned before that you'd come back to the US at some point relatively soon.

We were planning on leaving Spring 2024. Until this offer came in we were like "this is perfect timing. We downsized everything. We can move to a smaller place in the city. Spend the next year checking things off the bucket list and saving money."
  • It's been gloomy for 2+ days and making it so hard to get out of bed in the morning.  Last night, I was so tired that I didn't even watch any TV because I didn't want to get sucked into anything and then not go to bed when I was clearly exhausted.

I did order a Hello Fresh box for this week to force myself to cook for DefConn and me.  We made flautas last night. They were really good.  Hello Fresh is probably the most consistent meal box in terms of all of the recipes being really tasty.  I've had other boxes that always had a stinker.

BIL/SIL/nephews are coming this weekend.  I need to wrap some presents and get some picking up done.  Thankfully, I'm off Friday and I WAH tomorrow.

Would DH like the work in the US job better than the other job?  Because that is a pretty big factor.  Family is too.  Though it's not for me, so it's hard for me to relate to it as much, lol.

The money difference should also keep in mind the COL difference.  Though I assume you all have already done that.  But if it's a 100% remote job, you all could also choose to live somewhere with a lower COL than your hometown and warmer.  While still living somewhere much easier and closer to visit from.

On the big, bright side.  At least you all have choices!  But it's a lot to consider because there are strong pros and cons on both sides.

At least you all were able to push your living situation and flights out another month.  That takes some stress off to have a bit of time to thoroughly consider both options.

  • Ugh I was sick for most of the weekend. I started feeling off Saturday after I went to lunch w/ a friend. Then Sunday when I woke up, it was like a bus hit me. Tested negative for Covid, and back at work today. But pissed that I lost like 3 days. I haven't even started Xmas shopping yet! Ugh.

Thank god the rain has finally moved out. It's also weirdly warm, but now they're saying maybe snow for the weekend.

We put the tree up Sunday - well N and the kids did while I was on the couch. Thankfully the cat hasn't tried to climb up it yet (we did tie it off though). But she loves laying under it!

Honestly, probably not. It would be a job to have while we got settled and he would look for another one in a year or two. But he is that way, always bored with his job after a couple years. He probably won't like the job here either. Family, historically, hasn't been a big draw for us. Now I either want to live within 15minutes of my sister or it might as well be 15 hours. We lived an hour away for a couple years and just as many people visited us there as have come here, lol.

@climbingsingle hope you feel better soon.
  • At any rate @banana468, at least you can say you got mistaken for Blake Lively today?  And I call myself a trivia buff (I really don’t).

@missJeanLouise I dunno, it seems like H is VERY employable.  WWID? Because you asked.  I’d stay and then move back to the US in ‘24 as intended.  We don’t know the job market in ‘24 obviously but as it stands getting a job in the US looks favorable.

  • Thanks @CharmedPam. I am basically polling everyone I know at this point. I literally looked up an online Magic 8 ball and asked it, lol. (It said we should move).
  • **falls in**  Whew.  Taking a break.  I forgot how much I actually like being a paralegal when my skills are actually being used and I'm not just managing claims.  I feel like I keep talking about how much I like my job too much, but I talked a lot about how much I hated my previous job, so this is a nice change of pace from the last 6 years.  I am ready for a paycheck though.

There was a meat and cheese tray in the break room.  I have no idea how long it's been there today, who put it there, where it's from, anything about it, and proceeded to wolf down cheese.  It was gouda and swiss, I can't help myself!!  Also, please note: if you ever need to murder me, apparently you can just sprinkle some poison on a nice charcuterie board and it's murder accomplished.

Nothing really new to report.  My period has served a serious wallop on me this time and I just want to curl up and sleep.  I have my allergy shot today with no interruptions b/c not only is my health insurance fully paid for, it started on the first day of work.

Y'all....I think I found employment nirvana.  I know everyone works damn hard here and it might not seem so amazing in a few years, but I right now there's just a lot of dazzle in my eyes.

I actually get that way when I ovulate.  I feel like that's my body's way in my 40's to tell DH to stay away or the bloating will continue for another 38 weeks.

In that case, if it is logistically easier to stay, that's a big point toward that option.

Plus the impression I've had is that you all like living there.  Certainly things you all don't like, but that would be true for any city/area.

    Edit; this is 90 Day Fiancé talk;
@short+sassy, word on the street (fb pages) is that Cynthia and Molly are no longer friends.  I thought it was a hoax, but they haven’t been on pillowtalk lately AND someone posted Cynthia’s response saying they weren’t (and it looked legit).
Again, just word on the streets.

I just read the same rumor on the 90DF subreddit.  There are some serious online detectives with that group, lol.  But no one had anything concrete.

I wonder if Cynthia is no longer on PT because of that.  Or if Molly pushed her out of that show and replaced her with the b/f.  Which then caused the rift (if there is one).

Some of the folks were talking about that Cynthia's politics have become increasingly extreme and that she is a Q-Anon follower.

Concerns about what will happen to the business they run together, if the rumor is true.

I guess we will find out in the coming days.

Edited to add:  Ah! They are no longer following each other.  And the rest was similar "3rd/4th party", ie "another follower said she told her..."

Interesting! I'm on meds because my IUD is stupid {entirely other dramatic issue} so I wonder if I also ovulate despite meds stopping my period.

I've had stress lately and my stomach is over dramatic when I'm stressed. Bloaty is pretty norm. It went down after a few hours :)
