Final Friday of the year

May 2023 bring more joy, health, and peace to all.  My big new years plans are Anderson on the couch and willing myself to stay up until 10pm, how about yours?

My wrist feels all better, thankfully.

Re: Final Friday of the year

  • @ei34, glad to hear your wrist is feeling better.

Last night, my H and I got a bunch of take-out from a sports bar/restaurant.  I had a $100 Diamond Celebration certificate from Harrahs that I needed to use before Dec. 31st or it expired and that place was one of only two choices where it could be used.  We were planning to eat at the restaurant and then get the remainder of our $100 in take-out food but, when we got there, they didn't have any seating available for the rest of the night.  It wasn't that busy, but they were severely understaffed.

I also had $20 in slot play that I turned into $18 in real money.

Tonight, we are going to an event called Celebration in the Oaks.  It's at City Park.  There are a lot of old, Live Oak trees there and they hang lights and do other big displays throughout the park.

My H and I aren't doing anything for NYE.  He probably won't even stay up until midnight, lol.

  • I'm doing my movie marathon.  I guess I'm going to have to go to the grocery store tomorrow or tonight to get snacks.  I thought my favorite local bakery was going to do their NYE boxes again, but they haven't advertised it at all.  My friend R might come over with her kiddo, but I kinda doubt it.  They have their tradition and, IDK, I kinda want to just be alone and peaceful.  2022 was definitely a life changing year for me and it's a bittersweet one.  But I am looking forward to 2023 and this new job and continuing to improve my circumstances.

Otherwise, SSDD.  This week feels like a wash and I'm looking forward to next week getting back to normal.
  • We do t have NYE plans, unpopular opinion, but I think NYE is overhyped. Likes it’s supposed to be some magical, fantastic night when really people drink too much and I’d rather sleep. We had one amazing NYE party our last year in grad school we hosted and had a 80s/90s dance party at midnight and it was my sister, my bff, and a few other close friends and it was great. Another year we did a Star Wars movie marathon because I’d never seen them.

Not sure if we’ll even do anything special. Maybe meet up with sister and niece early in the evening? I’ll probably be asleep by 10.
  • I also need to do some grocery shopping today.  Stock up on snacks for the long weekend.  I've been craving chicken salad and deviled eggs.

I used to go out NYE when they did the “all you can drink for one price” deals but bars and nightclubs are not my thing. I’d love a BIG board game night party but I don’t know anyone who hosts those anymore.  Even on regular weekends any time of the year, no one does that!
Tomorrow a small meetup group (sans creepy friend lol) are going to a comedy show and at the end they come out at midnight and do the countdown with us.  I get the “I went out” feel but none of the “I went out and lost my hearing” feel.  I even have a hotel room around the corner that does require a 5 min uber drive, but at least I’m off the main roads.
Today, we’re off from work and I have a facial (so I better get my workout in so I can shower!) and then a mansion tour (decorated all christmassy still) and dinner with meetup.
Glad your wrists are better @ei34
@“short+sassy"  yum! $100 is a great deal. I could do a lot of damage with that cert! Have fun tonight, that sounds pretty
    happy new year to all!

  • @CharmedPam, $100 was enough for one appetizer and six meals (sandwiches/salads), lol.  We had two last night and half the appetizer, so it's nice to have four more "already made" poboys/wraps in the fridge for the next couple days.

  • Still don’t know what I’m doing tomorrow. We have hotel and dinner reservations and TBH that’s okay to me. I’m not feeling the itch to go out this year really.

I’m glad your wrist is feeling better @ei34

I hope everyone has a safe and fun NYE!

  • NYE is my least favorite!  At least, it's least as far as feeling the pressure to do something.

I've started to embrace the concept that NYE is the day to wear pants without buttons and stay home and be totally fine with that.  Maybe when the kids are older we'll do something but for now I'm thinking it's gonna be takeout and maybe a family friendly movie.
  • I was in bed by 11 Saturday night.  I didn't feel like I missed anything, and it was glorious.
