Wedding Woes

Back at it Tuesday

Happy New Year!
Back at work and it feels good to be back in a routine.  I'm sure I'll be tired and wishing I was home by noon lol.  Wishing everyone a smooth day/week/year  :)

Re: Back at it Tuesday

  • Happy New Year, all!

I'm off to a good start.  Had a relaxing weekend at home.  Including a "Mimosa Monday" with my neighbor yesterday.  The weather was nice.  We spent hours sitting on her balcony just shooting the breeze.

Always tough to come back to work, but my first cup of coffee really hit the spot and is helping to keep me propped up, lol.

I have to brag about this product, a calming chew for dogs.  We got it earlier this year to help our pup with thunderstorms.  It seemed to work well.  But it was really amazing for the fireworks on NYE!  Normally, she is so afraid she'll be shaking the whole time and completely climb on us.  But we gave her one at 8pm, when it seemed like the neighborhood fireworks were amping up and then another one shortly before midnight

She was still a little afraid, but wasn't shaking at all!  I was really impressed.  This is the item:

  • Welp we all got covid over holidays.
I'm negative now, but good lord.

M, me, BK, my mum, her bf, IL's, BIL & SIL all got it.
    Varying forms of feeling awful.

M felt tired xmas day at my mum's, but slept 12hrs and felt fine. He wasn't sick.
Boxing day, I had a tickle but I have nasald drip so nothing out of the norm.

27th BK & I were couch bound feeling exhausted and BK had up and down fever.
MIL feeling tired, but nothing else.

28th my mum got sick. BIL & SIL got sick
30th my mum's bf got sick.

1st SFIL decides to test. Clear positive.
    Everyone else does.
    M & I only faint but there.

Spent 2nd on couch just exhausted with migraine.

  • Hi all! Happy New Year! We watched the 8pm fireworks from a distance. I basically had to drag DH there and it felt very much like "We're creating memories Damnit!". But DS enjoyed it and that is what I was concerned about.

Nothing big to report here. DH started his new job yesterday and DS went back to nursery so it is just me and DD. Yesterday I caught up on house work, today I met with our old nanny to see if she would be interested in coming back to work for us (she is), tomorrow is apartment hunting, and Thursday I am grabbing lunch with a friend. Hopefully we can get moved and settled quickly as I am eager to start my studies again.
One of my biggest regrets when we thought we would move was that I still have so many places on my bucket list to travel to. I was also sad that my siblings and dad haven't come to visit (even though they have had ample time and we offered to buy the tickets). Now my sister is talking about coming in March but if she doesn't I want to plan a trip to Jordan. It would be our first vacation since 2019, if you don't count the trip to America to go to my sister's wedding in 2021.
  • Not sure if anyone was watching MNF last night but one of our players was severely injured. The whole city is feeling it and everyone talking about it back at work. It’s like the city can’t catch a break.

Weekend was good; low key and quiet. Went to sisters NYE afternoon and played. M had a great time and my niece was so happy. We played Polly Pocket most of the time.
  • @charlotte989875 I didn't watch it but I saw a headline in passing today. It said he collapsed on the field and CPR had to be done, I assumed it was a heart thing. Was it a play related injury?

Yes, he was making a tackle and took a hit to the chest. He had cardiac arrest. They were able to restore his pulse on the field and he was transferred to the hospital and is in critical condition.

DH and I turned the game on likely 15 minutes or so after it happened and wondered what was going on with the field empty and the sportscasters so quiet.  Then he pulled up the footage and it was horrifying.    Prayers for a full recovery for him.

The number of people on Twitter who used that as an opportunity to posit antivax rhetoric was shameful.

I wasn't watching that game, but had heard something about it.  I didn't realize how serious the diagnosis was.  I hope he is okay.

  • How terrible for Hamilton and for Buffalo. I guarantee that footage will be used in medical schools as a perfect example of what happens with commotio cordis. It’s something you know about and study, but crazy to see in real time. How awful. And he's so young. I hope he's okay.

Hope you are all feeling better @MissKittyDanger

Yay for new jobs and goals! @casadena and @missJeanLouise

Getting my life together today before work tomorrow.  we had a mostly good weekend. tbh the worst experience we've ever had at our favorite local hotel but we tried not to let that ruin our weekend. We'll probably go back to say something because some of it really was inexcusable. Otherwise we had a fun time, got to explore some places we've always said we'd try, and had some good food. H and I had a date night last night to end out the holidays and we watched The Invitation. A pretty good end to our weekend.

I hope everyone is staying safe, warm, and dry!

  • It was a good 3 day weekend. I was asleep by around 9 pm, so didn't stay up to see anything.  I watched Glass Onion and liked it much better than Knives Out.  Otherwise, still just bustling around hanging stuff up and taking care of making my place nice.  I only have like 4 or 5 more things to figure out where they're going to live and I'll finally have all of my art up for the first time in forever.

The Regal here in my city is closing up, which wasn't suprising, but now my 2 blocks away movie theatre is gone.  I went ahead and got a pass for Alamo Drafthouse, b/c they're showing the 3 LoTR Extended versions, which I've never seen in the theatre.  Even if I see nothing else, it's cheaper to buy the pass and 3 tickets than just buying 3 tickets.  But I'm starting to feel the "go see a movie itch" again, so I'll probably see more than that.

I moved into my new office.  It's so big, I kind of don't know what to do with all the space.  I'm sure I'll figure it out in no time though.  Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to settling into a normal routine again.  I don't feel like I've been very present these last few months between dad's death and the holidays.  I've also lowered my anti depressant to 5 mgs.  I have another week trying it out. I think it's going okay, but it was a little rough these last few days.  I know I'm not ready to go completely without and I'm fine with that.

I'm glad everyone had the holiday they wanted, except for @MissKittyDanger.  That all sounds horrible; I hope everyone is on the mend.
  • Happy New Year everyone! We had a great visit with our nieces over New Year's weekend.

I worked from home yesterday and am back in the office today,  DefConn is back at school today.

We had turned off the game before Hamlin collapsed and then turned it back on when DH saw what was going on on Twitter.   We watched for a little longer and then turned it back off.  DH and I were both just so shocked and saddened by it, and it was also pretty anxiety-inducing.

I'm glad they canceled the game, but it took way too long.  It's kind of BS they basically forced the players' hands by trying to get them back on the field and they had to say 'hell no'.  I mean the coaches stepping in helped the process along, but it felt like it took an eternity for them to call it off.

We were talking about it in my mom group online and the nurses in the group stepped up and were like, "and this is a good reminder to learn proper CPR techniques", plus provided helpful videos on how to work an AED machine.

Anyhoo, been writing this for over an hour between calls and trying to get my reviews done.  :)
  • Agree on the huge importance of being CPR certified.

As a mother it's reinforcing the fear I have of a kid in contact sports and as a watcher I hope it's a long hard examination that the NFL needs to take regarding player safety and sadly some list of rules regarding when to call a game.  It's unconscionable that they wanted the players back on the field while one team just watched Hamlin leave the field and still don't know if he may make it.
  • @MissKittyDanger I'm so sorry to hear about the sickness!  That's so rough, but hopefully everyone is feeling better and that's the end of the sickness for a while.  It's been an awful season for people being sick, and it's only January!

@VarunaTT I haven't seen Knives Out but really wanted to.  If I watch Glass Onion, will I have spoilers if I haven't seen Knives Out yet?  We were supposed to see it at the library and then Covid hit.

Just had my chicken and dog tag team to beat up a rat.  Not happy with the huge rats in my back yard right now ....

  • @kerbohl I don't think so.  I think the only connection is the detective Daniel Craig plays and the stylized mystery.  I didn't like Knives Out, TBH, but I really liked Glass Onion.

I liked the speed of Glass Onion if that makes sense.  Knives Out seemed to move slower for me.
  • I fell asleep during Knives Out and when i woke up, the person I was with muttered, You didn't miss much.  I had some similar complaints about Glass Onion that I did Knives Out (WTF at explaining in the middle?!?!) but overall enjoyed it much more.  Also, the queerness and queer coding for Daniel Craig's character was FABULOUS!!!
  • I liked Glass Onion better than Knives Out too.

I've been de- Christmasing the house yesterday and today. Not done yet. After I get stuff packed away, I'll do a good cleaning. I had appointments today or I would have gotten more done. Went back to spin class yesterday and that felt good. I'm tired of the gray and dreary weather we've been having. I'm definitely a sunshine person.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon @MissKittyDanger.

Glad everyone’s adjusting to the new year!
@MissKittyDanger,  glad your negative now, but sorry it hit ya!
I may be in the minority but I liked Knives Out better. The twist in Glass Onion was good, but nothing shocking.

My New Year’s resolution was to spend less. Save more.  That was a fun day.  :-/

  • I think I will watch Glass Onion this week then!  I'm excited, I did want to see it but didn't want to spoil Knives Out.
