Warming up Wednesday

It'll be in the 80s later this week, yuck.  But fair, it is almost summer.

Anyone have experience with TMJ?  Taking tips.  It's new to me.  I was making dinner yesterday and was snacking on grapes, suddenly the right side of my mouth felt tingly, and within five minutes it looked like I had a golf ball in my right cheek.  15 minutes it looked like a softball and I was walking into an urgent care.  It's just a symptom of the divorce / being not just a single parent but really the sole parent, but I have a recurring dream that I'm going to just suddenly drop dead.  So I went to the urgent care to rule out a stroke or aneurysm or who knows what else.

Was happy it's TMJ but was just given instructions to take ibuprofen for swelling, given two jaw exercises, encouraged to reduce my stress (lol) and make a follow up appt with an ENT if it persists/becomes bothersome.  But I'd love to hear anyone's experiences.

Re: Warming up Wednesday

  • It's in the low 80s here too, which is unseasonably cool for this time of year. I was a little disappointed that it was too cold to swim over the holiday, but I'll take it. Summer is long and hot enough, we can wait a few more weeks.

Nothing much going on here. The holiday weekend was pretty chill with mostly just doing chores and errands, and then going to the pool for my nephew's birthday. Yesterday was month end, which is the worst Tuesday of the month, so that was a lovely shock to the system.

H's family wants to plan a family trip this year, but none of them will take charge and actually do anything. When we did the last one about 10 years ago, I took the lead and planned it, but I really don't think I should have to as an in-law. If I'm honest, I don't really want to travel with them, so I won't mind if they just drop the ball, but I wish they'd decide to not with enough time for us to plan for something else with the PTO. So I'm half-assed looking for resorts in Mexico.
  • Oh man, TMJ is the worst! I had a tough bout with it last year. The jaw exercises really worked well for me. I tried to focus on meditating and yoga to reduce my stress. I also wore my night guard during the day to try to help relax my jaw - I had a dentist suggest this to me. I hope you get relief soon!

    Mostly SSDD here.
  • We have a heat wave right now.

The amount of clothes I had to send BK today was nuts lmao
    Send her in pants, socks and closed shoes for forest day {to reduce bugs etc}
Then they have all the kids change to shorts when back.

Later they have a water balloon fight - so sent ANOTHER full on outfit lmao.

I sent 2 shorts, undies and extra shirt AND her crocs lol

BK was suppose to sleepover at IL's thursday night, but SFIL had food poisoning so he couldn't do his meds, so they're picking her up Friday morning and M will grab her before gymnastics on Saturday.

I have a bunch of cleaning to do Saturday because idk when we're going to BK's friend's house on Sunday.

    Otherwise not much happening.
Maybe Saturday afternoon we'll chill in the backyard with her water table.
  • @ei34, I'm sorry to hear about the TMJ, but also glad it wasn't anything worse.  I hope your new normal gets to a better, less stressful even keel.

We are having so much trouble trying to put our upcoming vacancy on FB Marketplace.  Unfortunately, that's the only place tenants can be found in my area.  We've been trying since Friday.  It will briefly post and then disappear.  We've tried it with both my H's FB account and mine.  Same result.  It should be a valid ad.  Supposedly, if there is something wrong with it, FB will flag it on your listings list so it can be corrected.  The ad is always showing as an "active" listing within my account, but then isn't staying displayed.

In this incredibly frustrating constant search for "what the heck is wrong", I discovered that Instagram is also a popular place for real estate listings.  I don't know if it is popular in my area for that, but I might as well try.  I don't have an Instagram account, so I'll have to create one.  I guess it's time I finally joined the 2020s, lol.

  • @MissKittyDanger, I've seen you use the phrase "water table" a few times, but I didn't know what that was.  I just Googled it, thinking it was something I was already familiar with that you all in your area just have a different word for.

Nope!  I never had or saw a toy like that when I was kid, lol.  Now I'm not sure why because it's seems simple and obvious enough.  I had similar toys, just not meant to be used with water.

  • I don’t know much about swelling and TMJ, @ei34.  I had it last year and it was just a pain in my ear.  I did some exercises for it, and it eventually went away on it’s own, so I’m no help!
mexico all inclusive sounds great @MyNameIsNot!

celebrity, the cruiseline we’re taking in December had a flash sale, excersions 35% off which is a great deal.  So we booked them all yesterday.  Dolphins, bus tour, catamaran and glass bottom boat.  But only one water activity! I’ve done glass bottom boats and they’re not all that great.  Most of the windows are scratched and foggy anyway.  So I saw that the sale was extended and I’m like “you know what? I really do want to go snorkeling and Bonaire is the best in class.  Do I go alone or someone come with me?”

so far, no one’s jumping at it.  My Dad can’t (health reasons), mom doesn’t want to so it would just be my aunt and we’d split up that one day. I REALLY want to do glass bottom kyak and snorkel but they’re tandum and I think I need a 2nd person with me - and a beach day alone (with snorkel) doesnt sound great lol.  But when will I have another chance to do this? This is already my second time in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, don’t anticipate going back for a long while now.

  • @CharmedPam, that does sound like an awesome cruise with great ports of call!  Check with the excursion customer service.  I wouldn't be surprised if they pair people up for singles or uneven groups.  Or one of the people running the tour might jump in to be "seconds", when needed.

On a different topic, I just signed up for Walmart+ again.  I originally signed up a couple years ago because it was $98/year and I had an offer with one of my credit cards to get 50% back.  But when that previous subscription expired, the renewal had jumped to $149/year.  No way!  I had already been debating if I wanted it at the $98 price, because I really hadn't used it that much.

They e-mailed me an offer that I can rejoin for $49/year.  Awesome!  It's definitely worth that.  Especially with all the craziness and moving we will be doing this year.  Plus some of the Ocala-area houses I've been looking at are "off the beaten path" and I'd want something like this anyway.  I also noticed the normal price dropped back down to $98/year, which is what it will renew at next year.

  • Just slugging away at work.  I think I'm going to have to remind my boss re: my 6 month salary check-in.  I don't like doing that, but I have to advocate for myself as well.

I am so ready for the weekend.  I"m taking Friday off, getting my eyebrows threaded, maybe a pedicure, having a lunch with Mom, and then heading out of town to see a dear friend for the weekend.  The MO Botanical Garden has a Chihuly exhibit!!  I"m so excited to see it, I adore the outdoor installations more than his museum pieces.  We going to have dinner there and then do the evening walk around.  The rest of the time, I'm going to hang out at her bougie apartment that has a saltwater rooftop pool.

Having dinner at a new restaurant with a friend tonight.  It's a new Mexican restaurant that has a mocajete!!  I'm so excited, this little Midwestern city has plenty of Mexican restaurants, but they don't do a lot of the dishes I just loved when I lived in New Mexico.  Though tortas seems to finally be making their way in.

I figured they would, but I also don’t want to be stuck in a kyak with a stranger either.  I opted for a yacht ride & snorkel.  I HATE doing things alone, even for 3 hours lol, but I guess this will be the year of doing things alone. I’m also heading to Salem alone before this trip.
$49/yr is a great price! Jump on that!

You can also get Paramount + free with it now, as well as 6 months of Siruis radio for free.  There are some decent benefits outside of just the membership.

I have done so much solo travelling, that sometimes I find I prefer doing things alone when it comes to travel, lol.  I am a boring traveler, I suppose - I like to wander aimlessly, get lost, see things.  I don't do a lot of tours, I have had trips where I would read for two hours of the day and then keep doing stuff.

Being stuck in a kayak with a stranger ... hit or miss.  Could be a fun time, but could be awful if they suck at kayaking or are annoying.

  • The heat is hitting today. Tomorrow is suppose to be 90. That's a few weeks early.

I had to tell my friend we couldn't make it to their daughter's wedding in the Netherlands after all. The cost was too prohibitive with current airfares and the cost of the hotel. I'm really disappointed because I've never been there and have heard wonderful things about it. She understood of course. She is surprised at how many people are coming. I sent the couple an extra nice wedding present since we can't attend.

Taking pup to advanced training tonight. It will probably be outdoors so I plan on sweating a lot. Until then, I will be working on Italian homework.
  • I just need clarification:

Are y'all talking about a kayak or a canoe?  Most kayaks here are single seaters; the 2 persons do exist, but they're not as common for outfitters to have around here or even just owned (most people do single inner tubes or single person kayaks or 2-3 person canoes or 4+ rafts), so I'm just surprised that it seems so common elsewhere.

  • Re: sharing a kayak with a stranger, I have a story about that.

In 2005, my sister was living in Key West. I was 25 and single and decided to go visit one weekend. She decided to book us a kayaking trip with a few of her friends and her then boyfriend. I wound up sharing a kayak with her neighbor who was a stranger to me. We hit it off and now he's my H.
That's an awesome "how we met" story and so perfect for the discussion!

See that, @CharmedPam?  Sharing a kayak with a stranger=potential husband material, lol.

  • Lol well the excursion called it a kyak, and it looks like one in the intro picture, but you’re right - most kyaks are one seaters

Haha.  That’s a great story.  But I can also find one on the yaht adventure I’m going on too!  It would be nice to find someone who likes cruises/travel.  You’d be surprised at the men I talk to who don’t.  And that’s a deal breaker to me.

As someone who lived there for two years, I am disappointed for you that you can't go.  I could have lived vicariously through you!  I haven't been back since 2016, and I miss it so much.  I'd live there again in a heartbeat.

  • We have two one seater kayaks and my parents have a two seater that will become ours as I don’t anticipate dad ever using it again. My mom didn’t even want the two seater because one person always works harder…in this case it was her because my dad maintained he had the important job of “being the rudder” lol.

    Makes sense.

Oof, I do not think I would like a 2 person kayak.  I don't really even like canoes very much and I think a 2 person kayak would be harder than a canoe.  I haven't quite figured out how to backpack camp with a kayak though.  The weight isn't an issue, but it's not a balanced weight and the size of the backpack is an issue.  Though I have considered just towing it behind me on a tube, which people do a lot with their coolers when they're kayaking.

MO, always keeping it classy.

When I used to go with my mom, I always worked harder, but she was fun company!  But then she started to like going on her own.

  • The only time i saw a 2 seater we were in Bermuda and they were clear bottom.
