Wedding Woes

Fri-yay

We made it, phew.  Now to just get through today.  A coworker is driving me crazy. (Yes, the cheating GS cookie one, but not related to that lol.)
Going to try and get my food shopping, weekly bathroom cleaning and grading done after work today, bc the weekend is pretty full.  The kids have a swim meet at 8am tomorrow, we are celebrating my dad's birthday  tomorrow evening, and Sunday in addition to the usual (mass, meal prep, relaxation) I also have brunch plans with a fun group of friends.  So all good things, but busy.  How's everyone else?

Re: Fri-yay

  • Chiquita's poor gut is still off today.  I'm on alert in case I have to get her from school.  We have 3.5 weeks until her next infusion so I'm hoping this is a fluke and she can recover with a bland diet.

We have a busy Friday/Sat with basketball for Chiquito and a Girl Scout event up state for Chiquita tomorrow.  We're going to try to see her friends in a musical tomorrow if the timing works and Sunday I committed to sub cantor because our regular one isn't going to risk the snow on the roads (he lives an hour away from the church).

My fingers are crossed that this is a dud for us.
  • TGIF! I hope Chiquita remains OK, @banana468
I’m opposite with nothing going on this weekend.

Can I get some more clarity on why these stanley cups are causing riots in Target? The yeti type.  Not the NHL one :)… is it only because of the color? Because I own two and while they’re OK, they’re not worth the lengths people are going for to get them.

I did talk to my tattoo artist and put a deposit down for my next tattoo next month but she gave me a link to pay for the deposit and it included tax.  Didn’t say a cc fee but tax.  I googled and services like tattoos are still not taxable in IL, I already paid it but I hope she’ll accept venmo or zelle in person like she has in the past.  If she asks to pay via the link should I bring something up to her? Because tattoos are not cheap so getting taxed ontop of those prices would be a lot more I shouldn’t have to pay.

  • I am so glad it's Friday.
After holidays and being sick, I never truly relaxed so it'll be nice to just chill a bit.

BK is going to IL's tonight, so M & I are sleeping in. Even though BK let's us sleep, it's still feels rushing when I do wake up because she's fully awake and I'm half dead.
I miss summer and slow mornings lol

My coworker put in her resignation officially :( I knew before holidays, so I'm pretending it's new because it's official.
Perk is she's going to a similar company, so ideally she may be able to poach me for a position because what I want isn't available here.
I did apply for a job with the school board - that is the ideal also, summers off. Ahhh ....

Anyways, M is mostly finished building his new computer so next up is building stuff around the house.
I'm hoping to get him to build tv unit tomorrow - we have a move a ton of stuff over and with his computer stuff and the xmas tree, we didn't wanna bother it too much.
Once the t.v unit is up, bins of stuff will go and it'll clear out even more space :D
  • From what I see, Stanley cups have taken the world by storm in the 11-50 crowd and are especially popular with the middle school / high school girls.    Chiquita got one for Christmas (in a purple shade for IBD) and she said on Tuesday they seemed to be the thing that ALL the girls in her grade received.

I honestly don't really "get" it other than they are now the thing you need to have because if you don't have it then you stick out as having a regular water bottle.

@ei34, love your coworker description as "cheating GS cookie one".

@CharmedPam, I didn't know anything about Stanley cups and Target, so I Googled it.  Okay.  Apparently there are special Valentine's Day release colors in hot pink and red at Target.  I don't get it either.  But I'm middle aged and don't care if my clothes are the latest style or brand names.  So I'm sure you can imagine how I feel about water bottles, lol.  And dang!  They're expensive for a plastic container.

@MissKittyDanger, good luck with the school board job.  Having summers off without being a teacher (at least for me) is living the dream!

I had an impromptu hang out session with my neighbor friend last night.  We took Izzy on a walk and then went back to her house for a glass of wine and lots of chit-chatting.

She bought a vacant double lot through a property tax auction.  She's planning to put a duplex on it and was speaking to architectural firms this week.  I've done a lot of things in real estate, but never a new build.  I'm excited for her!

After work, I need to stop at the bank.  I might do a Costco run.  Some important phone calls to make.  I've seen rumors online that my medical insurance carrier changed from covering my name brand insulin to the generic version.  I want to call them and double check it, before I have Walmart fill my prescription.

  • Yes!  The latest craze is one of those Target/Manufacturer collaborations.  Every time they do one that's a limited release people go bonkers.
  • Regarding the Stanley cups, did anyone else see the Tik Tok where the woman’s car burnt up in a fire but her Stanley cup survived with the drink and ice intact? Stanley ended up buying her a new car (and a new Stanley).

Hopefully Chiquita’s gut is okay and this is all just reinforcing some dietary changes that have to happen without being a super awful flare.

@CharmedPam what tattoo are you getting?

@ei34 that coworker is more and more annoying.

Good vibes for the job @MissKittyDanger

Work today and then thankfully it’s three days off although I have the dentist tomorrow and I’m dreading that. Who even likes the dentist? I literally dreaded my colonoscopy less. lol. It’s also my mom’s birthday today. She was unsure about getting together since she my brother came home unexpectedly and she doesn’t want to leave the house now. I know we should still go over there but I also just really don’t want the negative energy or the drama. We’ll probably still end up seeing my parents tomorrow, but it’s not exactly the relaxing weekend I’d prefer. At least my teeth will (hopefully) be squeaky clean and cavity free?

Otherwise SSDD. Bracing myself for the wave of “I got together with a bunch of people for Xmas/NYE and now I’m sick with COVID/flu symptoms but it can’t be that! What do you mean my test came back positive after I refused the test initially and refuse to wear a mask in the clinic!?” And also I don’t care if you have rhinovirus, RSV, Covid, flu, please wear a mask if you’re sick. No one wants it.

  • Thanks @levioosa.  She had an infusion last week so I'm hoping this is a blip of some days of bad diet / New Year and not a need to be reevaluated or change the current plan.

She cried Wednesday night saying how it's just not fair she can't be like other kids.  Ugh - my heart.
  • @leviooosa, I probably sound dumb, but only recently realized that there are reports for cities that track the levels of various illnesses through sewerage.

I saw one for New Orleans earlier this week and we're currently high for RSV, norovirus, COVID, and one type of flu.  With three of those risen from the last report.  I think COVID was the exception.

I feel like I should just wear a mask this month when I'm out in public and indoors for the next month (sigh).

I think it's weird people don't wear masks in doctor's offices.  Especially the kind of offices/clinics where people go if they are sick.  Admittedly, I didn't before COVID.  But it just makes logical sense, when you think about it.  I always do now.

In my limited experience, doctors seem different about it now also.  Before COVID, doctors I saw for non-sick reasons (endocrinologist, OB/GYN) never wore masks when they spoke to me.  But nowadays they do.

  • I feel like poo again.  I tested for covid and it's still negative.  I don't think it's covid or flu, I think it's my damn allergies b/c the whole city is just wet from snow, sleet, rain, etc. and it's blowing up mold.  If my ears don't stop itching, I swear I'm going to pull them off.  I also did a breathing treatment this morning, so that helped.  I have a pounding headache that the advil doesn't seem to be touching.  I'm also cold in a big sweater and jeans, with the space heater running.  I don't want to be at work and I don't want to see people.  So yeah, blah.

I don't have too much this weekend except a movie and then regular household stuffs.  My mom is out of town this weekend.  I'm happy she's stretching herself, but I'm also a little worried.  The folx she's staying with are nice; they're also Trumpers, conspiracy theorists, and they have a dog that my mother absolutely despises.  My mother loves dogs, so for her to dislike a dog this much is suprising.  I hope she has a good time and doesn't get snowed in.  I told her I'd come get her if necessary...my how the roles have changed.

  • I love my Stanley cup but it’s great because it’s durable. I don’t need multiples!

We've also been specific to Chiquita that we are NOT buying multiples so keep your cup close!
  • @short+sassy  had I thought years ago, I would have done casual thing so I could officially get in and have summers off but at least I got it together now ;)
It's actually HR position - I do a lot of the stuff already, minus the official schooling
  • what's difference between Yeti and Stanley?
  • what's difference between Yeti and Stanley?
They're two different manufacturers.    They offer a similar product but the Stanley seems to be far more popular  ATM.   Unless I've missed it, Yeti cups also have a smooth to gloss finish.   The currently popular Stanley cup (straw and others) have a soft-touch finish.

  • DH bought a giant Stanley coffee thermos, like, 12-13 years ago or so.  It's the basic green color.  He busted it out to show my nieces.  They nodded as they sipped out of their fancy pink and purple Stanley straw cups.  Also, Brumate now has some really nice tumblers called the Era.  They come in some really pretty colors and 30 or 40oz.  I ordered one for my sister for Christmas.  I find Yetis are too heavy.  We got one for DefConn for Christmas and I'm afraid it would take out my toe if I dropped it.

I had therapy this morning and it was much-needed.  I hadn't seen her since the beginning of November.  I was scheduling sessions 2-2.5 months apart, but I'm probably going to back to every 6-ish weeks.

We don't have much planned this weekend.  I'm hoping for decent snow and we're definitely going to have a fire Saturday and Sunday.  BIL is moving out tomorrow to stay with his parents until SIL joins him up here in May and they buy a house.   He'll still work with DH and come over on weekends occasionally.  But I think this is a good time to make this break.

SSDD otherwise.  Hopefully I can have some moments of full relaxation this weekend.

I have a yeti - i know i can do the attachment of straw/handle so wasn't sure if I missed the memo about it lol
  • I also like that the Stanley had a handle and a straw. I have a brumate too that is really great except it’s kind of small. The bottle is huge but it doesn’t feel like it holds much water because of the insulation.
  • Not much here; H slept last night while I got up and then took J for the morning while I slept and we both feel so much better! The lack of sleep is so real.
  • None of my drink holders have fancy brand names .... but I've seen firsthand the desire for Stanley's.  We also got a Yeti for Christmas one year, and I sold it for $40.  We never used it.
Glad it is Friday, can't wait for the day to end.  It isn't a bad day at work, I just feel a headache brewing and I feel tired.

  • Yetis' have been the go-to corporate gift for H and me both for like 7 years. We have and have given away so many! I like them, but i only need 1-2.

Definitely don't get the craze for a drink cup.
  • I will say after having a few that they can be pretty fantastic.  We used Yeti or RTIC (RTIC is a direct to consumer direct competitor w/ YETI) cups a lot especially in summer and on boat days.  They're extremely well-insulated which make for great drinking of even plain water on hot days.  We have an RTIC 1/2 gallon container which will keep the ice in water frozen for hours.     Now that we both camp with the kids, the need for an insulated water bottle for travel, walking and coffee is that much more needed so we have a few.

But I think the Stanley cup thing is the image/show.  Chiquita would be fine with a plain water bottle but the social pressure is there for the Stanley.
  • Call me old but I have an imitation Hydroflask that I absolutely love. I can put ice water in that thing and it’s still full of ice 12 hours later even when it’s been sitting in a car when it’s 100 degrees out. Meanwhile I have a Starbucks thermos that sucks but I actually specifically use it because it sucks. I pour in my hot beverage and the timing works to where it cools down enough to drink exactly when I want to drink it. But if I was someone who wanted a hot beverage for hours it would not be the business.

My on-the-go water bottle and traveler coffee mug are both no-name.  They're double-walled insulated and do a great job.  I actually have to ice my coffee when I put it in my to-go mug or it will stay too hot.

The best travel coffee mug I’ve ever had was a thermos brand I bought almost 6 years ago that keeps coffee hot for hours. The color has all chipped off but it never spills and is amazing.

I don’t love the yeti coffee cup we have. The top is just regular plastic so it doesn’t keep anything hot and spills so easily. Team thermos for hot drinks!
  • Our go to coffee travel cup is Contigo.  They can be latched so they don't spill in a bag or if tipped over.  I also have a water bottle style Contigo that will hold ice for 24 hours.  I also have one I ordered from Temu and it works just as well but isn't spill proof.  Perfect now that I'm wfh.  A cup without a handle is my preferrence.

The cups are pretty, but I still don’t understand the hype.
And this was a headline for a Chicago article on it.  Now I’m perturbed about the misuse of the word galentine’s day.  Are we just going to replace the word valentines with galentines for every situation? It was a term coined by Leslie Knope for the day before to show your friends some love:
“The day of fun happens on February 13, just before the main event of Valentine's Day. As Leslie says, "February 14, Valentine's Day, is all about romance. But February 13, Galentine's Day, is about celebrating lady friends. It's wonderful, and it should be a national holiday."

Anyway, @levioosa, the tat’s not anything original like my last one.  I always wanted a clavicle one and I think flowers make great clavicle tats.  I had in my head for months a red watercolor rose but it just wasn’t sitting right with me.  Then I said “aha! It needs to be blue!” So…. I’m getting blue rose. It should be done in one sitting.

  • I have a Yeti 32 oz. It is heavy but keeps ice water iced for hours! I haven't tried hot things in it. I didn't know you could buy a handle attachment. I should look into that. It is heavy and my hand is losing some grip and having trouble picking it up single handed when full. I usually only have it at home or in the car since it is so heavy. I have an uninsulated Contigo that is ancient for the gym and working out.

We are in SC. Had dinner with my cousin, her daughter and her family last night. She (cousin) is doing ok. We had a nice visit catching up and reminiscing. I hope that was helpful for her. I shared some memories about her H and both she and her daughter laughed. She said he would be happy to hear me say what I did. I just feel so sad for her. The service is today then we start the trip home. We will probably stay around for a bit to visit with other family after the service.
  • This popped up on my feed today lol
