Fri-yay

Re: Fri-yay

  • My 2nd grade DD said like 5 kids in her grade showed up with Stanleys after break. She then sort of vaguely asked for one, but I could tell with the expectation that I was gonna be like, "Nah." This is a stupid rich kid school, but it's trickling down.

None of my drink holders have fancy brand names .... but I've seen firsthand the desire for Stanley's.  We also got a Yeti for Christmas one year, and I sold it for $40.  We never used it.
Glad it is Friday, can't wait for the day to end.  It isn't a bad day at work, I just feel a headache brewing and I feel tired.
I bought a big Yeti cup from Facebook Marketplace for $20 a few years ago, lol. More for cold drinks. After that, one of my mortgage companies sent me a smaller/different style Yeti cup for a Christmas present.  It was more for hot drinks.

I like them.  They're good quality cups.

  • The cups are pretty, but I still don’t understand the hype.
And this was a headline for a Chicago article on it.  Now I’m perturbed about the misuse of the word galentine’s day.  Are we just going to replace the word valentines with galentines for every situation? It was a term coined by Leslie Knope for the day before to show your friends some love:
“The day of fun happens on February 13, just before the main event of Valentine's Day. As Leslie says, "February 14, Valentine's Day, is all about romance. But February 13, Galentine's Day, is about celebrating lady friends. It's wonderful, and it should be a national holiday."

Anyway, @levioosa, the tat’s not anything original like my last one.  I always wanted a clavicle one and I think flowers make great clavicle tats.  I had in my head for months a red watercolor rose but it just wasn’t sitting right with me.  Then I said “aha! It needs to be blue!” So…. I’m getting blue rose. It should be done in one sitting.
Leslie Knope didn't coin the term, though.  When I was in college, there were always women in my sorority who'd throw together a Galentine's Day outing.  Though usually it was on Valentine's Day itself, for anyone who was single.

But normally, it is the day before Valentine's Day and to celebrate with friends.

The Leslie character did put a lot of effort into her Galentine's Day event, so I will give her credit for that!

  • So I actually have a collection of stanley's, they're all either white, gray, and one bronze.  All Christmas gifts from students.  They were really popular here last year but I received two to add to my stash a few weeks ago too.  I think re-gifts bc the kids all like the fun, bright colors.  I'm saving them in case they're still cool in a few years when my daughters will be old enough to want certain things.  I did try one of them out, but it wasn't the right fit for me.  Literally.  It doesn't fit in my backpack's cup holder and I like having my hands free.

My go-to is an 18oz yeti bc I drink a lot more water if it's cold, and the yeti keeps my ice intact like no other, plus it's slim enough to fit in my backpack cupholder sleeve and it never leaks.  It's around 4 years old but I love it.

Cannot comment on best vessels for hot drinks, I'm not a coffee or tea drinker.  I have a cup of warm lemon water each morning but just use a mug since I'm in the kitchen.
  • Tomorrow the artic blue one is being released.  It’s pretty but not trample over other people and elbow them in the face after lining up at 3 am pretty.

I cannot possibly understand this.  Unless they are stuffed with hundreds of dollars, lol.

There is only one time in my life when I got up early and lined up for something.  Harrahs was giving away a $100 gift card to Macy's on Black Friday (years ago), but only to the first 200 people in line.  I still didn't get up at 3am.  It was 5am and I got there around 5:45am, for an event that wasn't starting until 7am.  There was no trampling or elbowing people in the face, lol.  Though the potential for violence was there, once the event started and everyone's spouse or friend started cutting back in.  I barely made it, but did get my gift card.

All in all, it took me 3 hours.  Not a terrible "payout" for the time involved.  But it was still barely worth it.

I can't think of much of anything for which I would get up at 3am and stand in line for hours.
  • I don't get all the hate for the Stanley trend. There's always going to be some "it" item that kids all go crazy over. For me, it was Lisa Frank trapper keepers and Cabbage Patch dolls.

Bashing it seems like one of those things where we trash anything that young women/teen girls like. People are allowed to have trends.

I don't get the hate either.  I just don't get the desire to disrupt my sleep for itbut this happens for tons of things.  We do seem to do more bashing for this vs. iPhones and Air Jordans but what do I know.  At least my kid is hydrated.

It’s bc white women like them. Think of all the vitriol PSLs and Uggs conjure. It’s not the trampling mob at Target because that happens every single Black Friday.
