Prudie Day

How's everyone?
Rainy and SSDD here except that two of the kids woke up with coughs, so I think we'll skip swim team tonight.  Super ready for the weekend, even if it's still a day away.

Chiquita is camping tomorrow night but inside a lodge.  I'm not going so I can go to book club and then use Saturday to clean up.    Covid is going around with people we know so my fingers are crossed that she stays OK.  She's due for an infusion Tuesday and I have a message to the doctor asking what we need to do to get the last 3 from last year covered and this one now set too.
  • Jury duty today. I finally have to go in. I had a frustrating work meeting yesterday that was kind of sprung on me last minute. My workload is essentially doubling. I already told them it wasn’t sustainable. Work bff has already quit. My other work friend is also actively looking and has already interviewed somewhere else. They don’t care about losing out on vested benefits or having to pay back any sing on bonuses but I don’t have that luxury. I’m last man standing (although work doesn’t know that yet). And they are soooo petty. They pulled some majorly passive aggressive bs after the meeting that is so petty it’s almost comical. I was telling SIL A about it and she started laughing too. Like what is this? Kindergarten?

Otherwise looking forward to Prudie and it’s a perfect day for it

  • Sounds like a bunch of BS @levioosa.  I hope, when you can, you can scram like the others.

I’m hungover. But I got up.  Got dressed.  And I made it! I think I’m more tired than anything and I’m just sooooo glad I didn’t sign up for tonight’s bunco incase I do take a nap after work.  Hint; I probably will.

  • @short+sassy all I can think of with your story is the mini horse from Parks and Rec that the town was obsessed with and it took Ben until the end to understand why lol.

And I have to be here through most of the year but I’m going to start applying in the summer since it takes awhile to apply, hear back, interview, and get credentialed. There’s a lot of hostility towards me directly (literally no idea why and my coworkers don’t understand why either) so I don’t trust that they won’t make me pay back every penny if I leave. For example I politely let them know I had jury duty and I asked to block my schedule so we weren’t canceling dozens of patients daily in the even I was called in and they nearly broke down my door ten minutes after I emailed to tell me I had to show proof and still come to work every day unless I was called in. Meanwhile my work bff just had jury duty, they never asked for proof and they gave them the whole week off no questions asked. Like, I’m not mad about showing proof of summons or coming in to work unless called in for duty (although a week off would have been nice). That’s very standard and expected. It’s the inequality of it that bothers me.

That is such a difference in how they reacted to you versus work bff!  It sounds like a horrible job situation, I do hope you find something better when you can.  Or that the environment at least changes and they stop treating you like this!

I have a job interview next Monday, as I am also actively looking.  I really do like my job, but too many red flags that things are changing.  I'll get out before I'm forced out I think.  Better to be looking for jobs in a position of power where I can say that I like my job and am still employed, then be laid off or have a recent change in title that looks suspicious on the resume.

  • Oohh that sounds awful @levioosa F them!!
  • @levioosa that is absolutely delusional on their part. I'm so sorry you're in such an insane situation. The inequity sounds infuriating. As an aside, i always enjoy jury duty, i've only been called a couple times but never gotten chosen for a jury.

    @short+sassy that sounds adorable!
  • Ugh I’m sorry @short+sassy job hunting is the worst.

@Casadena my coworker almost got on a ten week case. That’s a little long for me lol

  • @Casadena would you do a Rent the Runway?   Something like that with a black tie in the name would motivate me to look for something that I know I'd never wear again but would enjoy renting for the night.
  • @casadena I know the research is spotty for collagen and hair growth but I personally feel like it has helped me. Worst case I’m getting some extra (but expensive) protein for the day with the collagen powder. I tried biotin once and got the worst stomach upset of my life so I never tried it again. It was probably some filler they used but I’ve been terrified to try another brand since. I keep toying with starting minoxidil or at least trying it topically. I really don’t need more hair anywhere else other than my head (and eyebrows/eyelashes) but I feel like I’m at the end of my rope for options and I’m tired of feeling like I’m going to be bald in five years from the hair loss.

    image
  • @Casadena, ME! I have no idea what I look like without hair extensions.
biotin and collagen may work - I take biotin daily and collagen in my coffee a few times a week.  My nails do grow though! No shampoo or conditioner made for hair growth or any serum has worked. Prp didn’t work. And was expensive. Right now I am taking nutrafol, but it takes 3 months to set in, and I only started it on the 4th.  I’ll report back.  I also bought a (really funny looking) red light led cap that’s supposed to stimulate hair growth.  Mine wasn’t expensive but they can cost up to $500.  Probably more.
i totally thought of lil Sebastian too @levioosa

I would be very willing to do that and have seen a few that i'd love to try, i'm just really nervous that even with proper measurement that something wouldn't fit right? i know they send a backup size, but idk i'm nervous about trying that in case what i like online doens't end up looking nice in person (even if it fits). Have you ever had issues with that?

I haven't used them myself but locals on a different chat board have spoken highly of it.

    Thanks!
  • I'm so ready for this week to be over.

I'm really struggling with night sweats.  So, after some research, I'm cutting off water 3 hours before going to bed.  Hot tip:  that SUCKS.  I woke up with a massive dehydration headache today.  Plus, I guess I forgot my meds, so I slept like crap b/c my allergies were going haywire.  Basically, I'm being a big old baby today and just trying to stay low at work and grind out some big projects.

I was just asked to join an volunteer organization.  I'm going to their orientation for new members before deciding.  It's a pretty prestigous organization (they've are the largest LGBTQ+ fundraiser in the state, raising over a million dollars since it's inception).  I've offered to help them before, worked with them during my other volunteer service, and I know they want me for some of my specific skill sets and connections, so I'm pretty sure which committee they'll put me on.  I miss volunteering and the community it gave me; I also still get very anxious about it.  But it's been long enough, I think I'm interested and I need to get back out there.

    Otherwise, SSDD.
  • This is an article review of different studies with low level laser for hair loss and it seems promising. My dermatologist has a specific laser treatment they offer—might be Alma? And I did think about trying that as well as getting some at home red light therapy.

@casadena I have done RtR before successfully. I always get nervous about sizing too. They do give “measurements” but honestly the best bet is to look through photos people have taken with the size they ordered. It’s a lot easier to pick the right size when you can see someone’s review with their height, weight, and especially if they have a similar body type.

    image
  • @Casadena I have used RtR 5-10 times. I have always been very happy with what I've gotten.  Their customer service was great, the one time the back up size didn't work either.  However, I have read online that the service isn't as good as it used to be.  I also have found their black tie selection getting smaller and there isn't as much that I like.  Other reviews have said they're really pushing their subscription service, so the black tie rentals have been suffering.

One of the women on a different board I used to frequent, used Rent the Runway all the time and absolutely loved it.

Because of her and her H's job (attorneys), they had to attend black tie events frequently.  Like at least once a month and she tried to avoid wearing the same dress too often.

Funny clothing story.  When he first started at his firm, her H would wear what he thought were decent suits from department stores like Macy's.  One of the partners pulled him aside one day and told him something like, "We pay you enough to dress better."  Doh!

After that, he regularly attends the Brooks Brothers semi-annual sale to get better suits, while also trying to save some money.

  • I’m also just starting Nutrafol @casadena and @charmedpam, although I’m doing the post partum ones. I have curly, fine, but lots of hair and had a TON of shedding after M so I wanted to start it before I lost too much to see if it will help. Literally only a few days in so nothing to report beyond it didn’t upset my stomach.

Here’s what I bought from temu. It arrived less than a week. Just $32!

I feel like my snark response to that would be "I didn't realize that part of working here includes that you can dictate what I spend my money on".  But ... that's just because clothes have never been a priority for me.

Meh - I think if you're working a place where black tie events are a regular part of your social life you need to start to pay attention to what a well-cut suit looks like.  In that situation you're likely working with people where your appearance is part of the job.     It's not just about the $ but making sure that what you are wearing is quality and tailored to fit.   There are ways to do it without breaking the bank but the partner is looking out for his company by doing it.

SIL is seeing this where she works (a bank). She got a promotion and is now working with higher value clients. She’s realizing that although she dresses professionally, she needs to upgrade her wardrobe to be more tailored and to keep in line with what these clients expect to see. Doesn’t necessarily make it right (and there was really nothing “wrong” with her clothing before, it was just on the cheaper side) it’s just how it is.

Yeah.  I fully acknowledge that my day to day attire is extremely casual.  But when I'm going to go meet with customers and head to an annual board meeting I'm going to make sure I'm in a tailored suit, quality shoes and present the best image of the company I can.  Do I wish that my daily efforts spoke for themselves without the need for the additional tailoring?  Sure.  But that isn't reality.

And I hope in the example of @short+sassy that the partner was not out of touch but very much in tune with what was paid and the cost of attire for the job.
  • That's fair.  I figured that might be what it was - that it is about the image and what you wear speaks on the company not just you.  I am really glad that I don't work in that kind of industry.  Nothing will ever make me care about labels on clothing.

I don’t think it necessarily is just to specific careers. People are fickle and can be really judgy. You would think in healthcare people wouldn’t think twice if they saw someone in scrubs. But I get treated drastically different when I wear business attire vs scrubs. By both patients and staff. It’s such an odd phenomenon. I still wear scrubs sometimes because it’s just so much easier.

Yeah.  Or we just look at the wedding situation here.

I went to a wedding years ago with DH at a nice spot in a waterfront town.  I still remember that I was 5 mo pregnant and wore a nice dress but was seated at a table with someone wearing something like a t shirt and sloppy capris.  And DH was the person who noticed that the other person was beyond under-dressed for the occasion to the point that it was not appropriate.

I will also say there's no visible label on the two suits DH owns but the more expensive one looks 100x better.
