Wedding Woes

Fri-yay

I'm glad for the end of the week.  I'm so tired, I'm barely functional, but still have to be.

Looking foward to finally taking my old bed to the dump.  It has to go or Harley will never stop using it as a jungle gym at night.  However, seeing how she played on it has given me some ideas about how to build a cat wall for her.  I finally figured out a place I can do it safely where she can go very high up, but not get to one of the exposed beams/ductworks in my apartment.

I'm slipping back into some old coping mechanisms.  I'm not mad at myself, but the old coping mechanisms don't actually work, they're just familiar.  So, I'm doing some reading about that.  I think I'm also going to unplug this weekend, as much as I can, and relax my mind.  Try to do a bit of a reset.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Nothing on the calendar this weekend and I"m thankful for the respite.

What's up for everyone else?  Y'all with the kids seems to be busy as all get out recently.

  • @VarunaTT it's the weather lol
Definitely try to do something if Harley is using it as a jungle gym lol Cats are nuts, i swear!
  • Lol i bet Harley likes to play in the dead of the night too @VarunaTT.
TGIF for real.  On Tuesday I went to change out my fridge’s water filter and i don’t know if it was faulty, but I stepped away and like 5 minutes later I hear water running coming from my kitchen. I thought it was odd because I didn’t think it was raining? I went back to my kitchen and heard the fridge running…hmmmm.  Opened the freezer, nada.  Opened the middle deli door and it was filled with water, which poured out all over my floor. Every single towel I owned was thrown down.  I’m thinking it hit a pipe or something? I dunno.  Refrigeration isn’t my expertise.  I took the filter out immediately and it stopped. I purchased a new one and it arrived last night.  Was I scared to re-insert it? You betcha. But this one was OK. What a disaster!

  • Tomorrow is Disney on ice and the Anna/Elsa meet and greet. I was hoping BK would go to judo on Wednesday so we didn't have to on Saturday, alas she didn't.
Since it's fairly close after judo, M suggested just packing a lunch and eating in the car so we can get there early.

M got BK a library card yesterday :) She was heavily distracted so M wants to try bringing her back over March break to enjoy it.

Next friday I'm off, and next saturday we're going to an alpaca farm. I'm very excited :D

I'm trying to get back into youtube vids, but i'm kinda stuck.
I may do a GRWM kind to do an update.

Anyways I'll link if I do one :)
  • @VarunaTT, I'm sorry to hear you've been having a tough time.  I hope you can get reset this weekend and start feeling better.  I'm with you on the tired part.  A new goal I have for myself is making sure to get 8 hours of sleep each night.  I can't always control that.  But I can at least start making myself go to bed earlier.

It's become especially important because some of my other important goals hinge on having enough energy at the end of the workday.  Like exercising and preparing my stuff/house for my move.

I went to bed earlier last night and was proud of myself.  But then my bladder hit at 5am instead of 6am and I couldn't get back to sleep, lol.  It's like my body refuses to be tricked!

Not much planned for the weekend.  But the weather has been perfect!  Now that my H has rebuilt our deck, I plan to spend some time hanging out there and relaxing with a book.

  • @Casadena I am so excited for you guys!  What a joyous moment!!!  Big hugs and yay flags all around!!!
  • That’s freaking Amazing @Casadena!  Also, donut theme? I’m there for it!

  • That’s amazing @Casadena so so happy for you all!!
  • J had appointments with ENT and pulmonology this morning. Good news is nothing major from what we can tell. Bad news is he does have some swelling in his airways so he will need an inhaler to try and reduce the inflammation. They think it’s caused by reflux so we need to get that under control. Some answers and a plan is better than not!
  • @Casadena, good luck to your H's grandma.  I hope she has a smooth recovery.
I'm excited to hear about G!  That is really great news.  Yay taking the port out.  Yay ringing the bell!

  • @Casadena - So thrilled about G!  I hope your H's grandma heals quickly.
@charlotte989875 - I'm glad you got some answers and a plan for J.

I'm on the tired struggle bus as well.  I need to go to sleep earlier but just can't seem to get there.

Meeting a friend for a movie tonight (Cabrini) and we have a family birthday tomorrow afternoon.  We'll be leaving the kitty home alone for the first time and plan to confine her to the bathroom with everything she needs.  We are all adjusting to each other pretty well.  She's making a mess with her litter so I have some ideas to help with that.

Sunday I'm worship leader and then need to stop for some grocery items.  A good mix of activities and down time.

The weather has been gorgeous the past few days but sounds like a snow/rain mix is possible tonight.  It's HS sports state tournament time so we usually get some bad weather around that.  But spring is on the horizon.

  • Yay for G!!! @Casadena I'm sorry to hear about H's Grandma. I hope she is okay and recovers well.

@VarunaTT *Hugs*  Something funny about cats is...they're usually either ground kitties or sky kitties. It sounds like Harley is a sky kitty. So she likes to play and probably feels safe with the high ground. My baby girl is a ground kitty, so likes to play with things on the ground, likes to run around underneath furniture. Squish is a sky kitty and he always likes to be "up." Where is he? On top of the huge wardrobe. How did he get there? Who knows.

This week has been difficult for me. SIL and her H got way too drunk on my birthday and verbally attacked me for things that 1) were untrue 2) were previously discussed and were resolved and 3) are just obvious insanity (like it shouldn't be a controversial statement that H and I don't want to hang around people who are doing hard drugs and that doesn't make me a snobby prude?). We've been pulling back gradually for years now but I'm just really tired of it. I'm tired of the heavy blackout binge drinking and the bickering and the lack of apologies and lack of accountability. And on my birthday too, which was disappointing and hurtful. When I tried to say we should discuss things when we were all sober and in a better mindset, they doubled down. Then the next day seemingly "everything was fine." Everything was not fine. I don't even know how much they remember. But I don't have to keep doing this and it's not fair that as the person who is almost always the responsible drinker, I'm always dealing with the fallout.  Ironically I didn't schedule a therapy session on Monday because I wanted to enjoy my birthday weekend without an appointment...so now I've just been hyperfocusing on it all week and have been in the biggest funk. H has been all in a funk too. It sucks because they're not just friends, they're family. We can't just gradually ghost. And we have a trip planned in April and now I don't know what to do about it. I almost just want to cancel it but I feel like that might cause even more drama. H and I have been placed in a lose lose situation which really sucks. If we cancel the trip, they're going to accuse us of being passive aggressive. If they invite their friends on the trip and we move hotels and only do a few meetups while we're there, we're going to "the problem." If we just go with them and hang out only together, they're going to be resentful they "couldn't invite" their friends. It's just so frustrating and I just want to scream at them to grow the fuck up and get to therapy already.

Anyways, it's the weekend, thank goodness. Looking forward to spending time with H. My parents are coming over tomorrow and then after that we get to relax. I'm trying to talk myself into doing a long cardio workout at the gym tonight and I don't want to.

  • @CharmedPam Is there a specific Meet Up website that's good or do you usually just google "meet-ups in X city?"

Also, ladies who have done laser hair removal...how many sessions does it take to notice any difference?

Do you have dark hair and light skin?  I'll say that I did not complete but had 6 treatments at my lip and bikini line.  My hair is dark brown and my skin is very pale and my understanding is that that helps.

At the 6, my upper lip went from "It's 5 o'clock all the time" to now something I need to maintain from time to time. My bikini line still requires shaving but it's thinner with fewer in grown hairs.

That said, I put an at home IPL and when I can tolerate the nakedness and time I'm going to start it up again.  I was in a good groove with it last year and then when it went to hell w/ Chiquita I didn't tell DH to pack it in my clothing bag when I was in the hospital with her.

Ugh @levioosa, sounds like a bunch of drama you just don’t need in your life.  Don’t feel bad about dropping that toxicity.  Is there someone you can invite on the trip and be like “hey they wanted to come last minute” and just focus on them?

    I can answer both!
just go to meetup.com and when you create your profle it shows your location. You just need to type in the group your looking for and it gets you to your location.  I would think if your looking for a group in a city your visiting you can change that location?
i just saw some neat ones but one was for a millennial age group and another one said “young people” and I’m like… what’s young to you? Lol.  I’m aging out!

Laser hair removal is the best thing I ever did.  I would say about a year I noticed significant change.  I went to milan which gave me a lifetime guarantee and I can always go back.  I wouldn’t like a package deal because it’s never a guarantee to be permanent.  I don’t have to do armpits or fingers (yeah hairy fingers) or like 90% of my face/neck anymore and quite honestly my bikini area is taking longer and longer to grow between sessions.  Bikini hair is really course though, so I don’t expect that to go as fast.  You go every 5 weeks until they put you on a 10 week schedule and then if you become happy with an area they graduate you and you can go if you feel any new hair come in.
Edit; so “sessions” would really depend on the area and what kind of hair you have.  8-12 months with going 5 weeks for less course hair.  It’s for dark hairs and not the white peach fuzz too.

  • @levioosa Jackson Galaxy says the same thing!  I think Harley is a bit of both.  I think it was the climbing on the slats that she really enjoyed and then she just happened to be high up so she moved to another high piece.  But I'll find her just loafed up in certain spots on the floor too.  She won't usually climb to the highest part of her cat tree (I think it must feel unstable for her to jump from one pad up to the highest one), but if she's really meowing at the ductwork and looking at it, I"ll put her on the high pad and she falls asleep there.  She's definitely taking after her namesake with unpredictability.  I think it's the act of climbing that she really likes, not just stepping up to things, but putting her claws into something and jumping up and catching herself.

I'm sorry about the birthday, that does suck.  Black out binge drinking is not easy to deal with, on any level.  My vote is to get the separate hotel.  That way, you can be the problem, but you have an escape route and don't have to hear about it.
  • @levioosa I'm sorry about your birthday party.  A confrontation like that sucks and adding substance to it can only make it worse especially with the background that you have with your brother.  I'm sorry.  You deserved better.

I'm burnt out right now.  I love my family but feel like everyone is just sloppy.  I walked through the house to find what must be every mask Chiquita wore this week to prevent disease spread and then found evidence of all the snacks Chiquito ate.   It seems like so much of the disorganization is simply a bunch of people who don't put things away.

Work just has a lot of issues at the moment which are likely par for the course but piling on.

And then today I got a call that the insurance coverage for Chiquita runs out on Tuesday when her next infusion is so we need to move that appointment to Monday.  Now I'm trying to juggle the timing and clear it so I can take a half day off Monday instead of Tuesday and we are STILL awaiting the clearing for the denied claim from her October infusion which is not cheap.

I messaged DH that I'm just at the 'up to here' feeling.
  • I would be too @banana468.  Medical billing is so so so frustrating!  What will you do after Monday? Do you have  new coverage?

  • Oh, for any ladies like me, who have been bemoaning the sparseness of their eyebrows as they're aging...Rogaine on them works.  One of my brows that has always been fuller is definitely growing back in faster, but they're both doing a lot better.  I just use the foam and put the foam directly on a spooly and brush it into my brows and where I want my brows to be.
  • I would be too @banana468.  Medical billing is so so so frustrating!  What will you do after Monday? Do you have  new coverage?
We don't need new coverage.  I'm learning this as I go but I guess when you have a situation like ours where you're needing a medication like Chiquita's that is a biologic, the doctor's staff need to go through the reapprove process to the insurance company so that the infusion and the treatments are approved and will be covered.   Insurance has in the past issued a EOB (explanation of benfits) approving the onboard dosing and then an additional 6 months.  We are now at the end of that 6 mo phase so the doctor's office needs to go back to them to say that yes, she really needs the medication, yes, at the interval that THEY are prescribing and yes, they need to continue the approval process because you don't cure autoimmune diseases.

I think the only reason why Shakespeare wanted to kill all the lawyers is because they didn't have insurance companies back then.
  • @levioosa I'm so sorry about your birthday, what a cluster. I also vote separate hotel for the trip. Seems like the least amount of problems if it's going to be annoying regardless.

@CharmedPam recommended Milan laser and i've been doing it on my armpits every 5-6 weeks since ~August and I would say my the hair has been reduced by about 80%? I'm now on a 10 week appointment schedule, but can go as needed. I know it's winter, but i've only been shaving on appointment days and haven't noticed any discomfort. Previously, i had tons of ingrown hairs, 2-3 hair per follicle, very thick/dark, and it never looked clean. Now i feel like it's super easy to shave, veeeery thin if any hair and the skin is very smooth. LOVE it.

  • Thanks for the reviews, ladies! I am a good candidate (pale skin, dark hair) so I'm hoping it works well. It was not even half as painful as I thought it would be. I did expect more of a wow factor after the first session so it's good to hear it takes a little more time. I have six sessions paid for with the most effective laser type. @banana468 I was looking into those Noom or whatever at home laser treatments and was giving it the side eye, but now you have me intrigued. lol.

@CharmedPam thanks for the info! I looked into Milan (I think both you and maybe Casadena recommended them?) but they didn't have any in my area =(

@VarunaTT Rogaine for the eyebrows is great! Ironically I'd like to get everywhere else lasered off, but my scalp hair and my eyebrow hair is just so thin and sparse. Like why? Everywhere else it grows like a weed. It's just rude.

    image
  • @levioosa every morning when I put my Rogaine on my brows and then search my chin for errant hairs, I think the same damn thing.

Funny you should say that because my place switched lasers and I always thought it wasn’t painful until they switched! And apparently I’m one of the few that think it’s more painful.  Trust me when I say my pain tolerance is high.  I’m glad the majority of my stuff was done on the older model.
They put cold air on the compressor now to “dull” the pain, but if they really wanted to dull the pain, they’d go back to the old one lol.

i’ll have to tell my mom about the rogaine.  She always talks about getting them mircrobladed like I do, but I don’t think she’d spend the money:

  • @CharmedPam I checked into microblading, but the people I spoke with told me that what I wanted wasn't really a result.  I've lost hair at both the part near my nose and then towards the end of my brows.  I still have a decent enough arch, but it just looks sparse.  They both said it'd look fuller, but I wouldn't like the look of the hairs on the edges, which is what I really wanted.
  • Of all my issues my full eyebrows are at last an asset.

Had to giggle earlier this week at my mammogram that it took TWO people to get the image needed of my tiny chest.

I agree!!! The new laser is way more painful. I have found that asking them to turn the "cooling" to the lowest setting, and just going fast (no pressure after the laser site each time...not needed) helps a lot. I don't like when they take forever and check in on the pain 5 times - just get it done!!
  • Now I'm wondering if something is wrong because it wasn't more painful lol.

I've seen so many horror stories with microblading that I'm really glad I didn't jump on the bandwagon a few years ago when everyoneeee was doing it. It looks so nice when it's well done though.
