Wedding Woes

Tired Tuesday (again)

I'm not one of the OG Tuesday mourners but I'm becoming one recently!  How's everyone?

Re: Tired Tuesday (again)

  • Slept fine, but it'll just be a rushed, busy day.  Tuesdays are our late day (all schools have a "late" day), and always have been, but with our schedule switch this year (I'm at the district's HS, we used to have the earliest schedule but we swapped with the MS) I'm just not used to getting home so late.  Which is probably still a lot earlier than most of you  :D

This evening I have the twin's school PTA meeting and meet the teacher night from 6-9.  For the first time since PreK they're in the same class- older DD had the teachers (it's two of them, an ICT room) last year and they were beyond phenomenal, just top top tier, so I requested they be together this once.  Also to give myself a break, with DD at the middle school this year, it's just one fewer homeroom to keep track of.  And they're close (not in a creepy twin can't-breath-without-each-other way.  But they get along and I don't believe they'll throw each other off).  But at least it's the last meet the teacher night before my own.
  • I am really suffering from covid fatigue and I think it might've changed my eye prescription too.  I'm giving it another week, just to make sure it's not also the fatigue, but I'm having to wear readers for everything now, not just my phone.  This is so damn annoying.  I just got these new contacts too.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Nothing big going on.  I started watching The Bear.  I really like it, but it makes me anxious sometimes.  I understand why and the writing for that. but so far I've been working on watching the Christmas episode and it's been taking me awhile.
  • Oooo, I love the bear! I worked restaurants for several years when I was young and still have some friends in the industry. It really rang true to a lot of things. Jamie Lee Curtis is so good in the Christmas episode and when she comes back in season 3, but she really makes you feel all their shit. I cried during her second one. (And not in a good way; it was in a flawed mother-adult child relationships are fucking fraught kind of way.)

Today is pissing me off already. My friend group has plans to surprise one of us for her birthday for Taco Tuesday tonight, but it's on the other side of town. I'd made plans with the friend who lives near me to get a ride since H took my car to work today. Except now friend just bailed on me. So either I flake (which I don't want to do) or I pony up $40 each way to uber. Ugh.

Also, work is being a pain in the ass. I'm a friggin delight today.
  • I'm the same re: having worked in restaurants @MyNameIsNot.  There is a lot that makes me nod and laugh, especially the kitchen personalities.  But that family, man.  Whew.  There are some similarities to exH's family and my paternal family that really amps it up for me.  Last night when trying to get through the Christmas episode, I was like, This is jut TV, it's not real, you don't have to feel it.

  • That’s awesome @Casadena! Glad you like it
i started the Bear, but just couldn’t get into it.  Same as season 2 of Only Murders in the Building.  I liked as1, thought it was cute (not phenomenal) but couldn’t get into S2 and now they’re on S3 and people are telling me they love it and it’s great.  So I don’t know if it’s really gotten better - or I’m just not on their page.  Lol.

Just came back from vacation and the application I use to do 80% of my job won’t open up. Just call your I.T. Department I’m sure you’re saying.
’cept yeah…. Our department can’t do anything right. And the girls who backed me up all threw the stuff back to me instead of finishing it and because I literally can’t work right now I have half a mind throwing it back to them.  Our own office is “start a task, see it all the way through” but they’re notI guess? Or scared because it’s not something they’re used to?

  • Same old same old for me. Weather is pretty nice today but it is warm for the last half of September. Yesterday I got all the autumn decor out, and I'm pretty pleased with it. Now I just have to remind the pup that the new stuff is not necessarily a dog toy!

I think my plantar fasciitis is flaring again. I'm hoping I can calm it down with some support things and more stretching. I don't want to have to go back to the podiatrist - even though it has been almost two years since I've been there. I think I probably over did it with the walking at DD's last weekend.
  • J hasn’t been sleeping the best, so in turn I haven’t been sleeping the best. I love that my mom is here and helping with him but every conversation is “have you tried this, how about you try that, maybe it’s this thing” and I just can’t deal with it. I know she’s trying to be helpful but saying we should keep him up more isn’t the answer. He needs more sleep, not less.
  • Tired today too. I could totally go for a nap right now. I didn't sleep well. I'm a little stressed about my Grandpa. I packed some extra clothes, makeup and my toothbrush this morning and I grabbed H some stuff too just in case things go south so we're prepared. I'm having a hard time concentrating. I originally was supposed to have a doctor's appointment this morning, but they canceled and so I canceled my PTO but they never opened my morning schedule and I'm not mad about that.

Otherwise, SSDD. It has briefly cooled down here (back up to 100 next Monday) and yesterday it was absolutely beautiful. I wanted to go for a long walk, but there was a lot to do around the house so I did that instead. The good news is that it's done at least and the cooldown is here for at least the next day or two so if we want to walk before it gets hot again we can.

  • @Casadena, glad your new job is going well!

@CharmedPam, I'm with you on The Bear.  It's one of those shows that I know people like and has won awards.  I can even understand why.  It's a good quality show.  But I personally couldn't get into it.  Though I only watched a few episodes of the first season.

I love Murders in the Building!  But if you didn't care for S2 anyway, I don't think you're missing anything.  I'm not sure I like S3 as much, but it did just start.

I found the coolest website if you're interested in facts about your last name.  It has all kinds of stats.  How many "incidences" there are worldwide and which countries they are in.  An "incident" basically means a specific person supposedly without duplicates.  What the (last name) average income is compared to the countries they are in.  Average heights for men/women with that name.  How common it is worldwide.  It's free and you don't even have to start an account/register an e-mail address.  Here's the link:

    Forebears: Names & Genealogy Resources

First, I looked up my mom's maiden name and my maternal grandmother's maiden name.  I know they are both Portuguese last names because that is where my maternal great grandparents immigrated from.  Most commonly found in Brazil.  Cool, makes sense.  Not as "rare" as I thought they were.

Then I looked up my last name.  I don't know anyone but family with my last name, but I always assumed it was a little more common in Germany which is where paternal grandfather immigrated from as a baby in the early 1900s.

I was dead wrong on both of those points, lol.

There are only 10 "incidents" worldwide.  6 are in the US and 4 are in Russia.  None in Germany.  There are 6.7 million last names more common than mine.

It's a little creepy to see the stats on your last name when there are so few incidents.  Because I know exactly which relative they are talking about, lmao.  For example, 50% in the US reside in FL.  Oh!  That would be my uncle, his wife, and their two sons.  17% in CA.  That's my mom and maybe my sister, though she took her H's name.  Or heck, maybe me from when I lived there.

But then I started thinking about Russia.  Did I have German relatives get stuck behind the Iron Curtain after WWII?

That website also had the Russian spelling of my last name.  I Googled that and even they picked it up as a direct translation.  I found there is a part of an insect's wing that is my last name (English version).  And a video game character with that name (English version).  All righty then!  I had no idea, lol.

Then I found a woman's LinkedIn page with the Russian spelling of my name.  She does live in Russia!  She has to be one of the four Russian incidents.  Unfortunately, she is not very active on LinkedIn.  I want to contact her, but need to figure out how to do it without sounding like a scammer or nut job, lol.

  • very cool find, @short+sassy! I just looked up my moms (very rare) maiden and as expected, fewer than 15 incidences globally - all are my aunts/uncles/cousins. I'm glad one of my cousins finally used that last name for their kids, or we would have been totally done when my generation is gone. Wild.
  • Very cool link, @short+sassy! Our last name changed down the line recently so it’s super rare, and I agree with the website on where they are geographically. Most showed up in my home province.
    100 @levioosa.  Me no likey.

I stumbled on it going down a rabbit hole from a 90DF subreddit, lol.

Some of the guy 90DF cast members from CA have been making dorky boy band videos.  But one of the guys in the videos, isn't from 90Day.  People were asking who he is, in a thread.  He's Josh's friend...Natalie's former kinda b/f...and his name is Justin Silva.

Which brought the obvious question for 90 Day'er fans.  Is he related to Darcey and Stacey?

Folks were saying Silva is like "Smith" in Portuguese, so it was unlikely he was related to the twins.  My maternal grandparents grew up in HI, which has a huge Portuguese population.  I vaguely remembered there's a Silva family they were friends with.

I looked up how common the last name Silva is in HI.  And stumbled on that website, lol.

To answer my original Silva question, it is the #20 most common last name in Hawaii.

i saw a lot of those videos too! They look like they’re having fun so more power to them. Have you seen the one where Kimberly is walking on the boardwalk to the Greese themesong and the guys are oogling her? I guess not her son but it’s weird

  • My great aunties will roll over in their grave if I don't mention this, lol.

What everyone calls "Hawaiian" bread, isn't Hawaiian at all.  It's Portuguese.  They brought it to the Hawaiian islands.  Though it was first popularized by a Japanese bakery in HI.  The Japanese were another large and early immigrant group there.

My grandma told me cute stories from when she was a little girl.  At school lunch time, the Portuguese and Japanese kids would sometimes trade beef stew and bento boxes (usually chicken teriyaki/rice) so they could try different foods and have more variety at lunch.
