Woke up at 2am to a freezing house.  Something is wrong with the heat.  No idea if it's the oil burner or boiler or whatever else is in the basement.  The oil tank is almost full so it's not that.  At 3am (I was up for the day a 2) I changed the batteries in the thermostat, but it wasn't that.  Just wanted to do something within my range of capabilities.  The house was at 51 degrees when the kids and I left around 6:45, I left the faucets trickling and just hoping no pipes freeze before my heating/plumbing guy arrives between 11-2.

Kind of busy after school but hoping we can at least sleep in our own beds and not at my parents' house tonight!
  • @mrsconn23 good luck with your interview - fingers crossed for you!

@banana468 i hope everyone stays healthy - vibes for you all!

@ei34 i hope you get things figured out asap and it's not too much of a lift to fix. Good luck!
  • @casadena I actually don't mind waking up in the dark too much. Maybe it's my black soul but the sun actually pisses me off. lol. Ironic that I live in Southern California. Nothing is worse than driving to work with the sun in my eyes. I even leave extra early most of the time to avoid it and my favorite time of year is when the mornings are cloudy.

@mrsconn23 Fingers crossed! All of the good vibes for you!

@banana468 when is Chiquita's next infusion? Sending you all of the sick barrier vibes.

@ei34 I hope things are calming down after ex-H's bs this weekend. Fingers crossed the heat is a simple fix!

Work today. H's cat was being an asshole and was just repeatedly hitting the one closed door's door handle this morning. What's extra infuriating is he can open the fucking door, so he was making a conscious effort not to actually open it because he was pissed it was closed to begin with and he wanted us to do it for him.

Otherwise, SSDD. My staffing is chaotic and that's annoying. But it is what it is right now. Grandma is set on going home tomorrow and unfortunately I can't get over to their place until Saturday. I'm worried about her trying to do too much cleaning because she has no chill. I also know it's going to be a big fight when I go over and throw out everything in their fridge. Sorry but you guys were without power for 2-3 days (Grandpa set up the generator relatively quickly) and even if it's not an unholy smelling mess, the food isn't safe to eat and I'll be dammed if you have survived cancer, old age, blood clots and heart attacks to let botulism be the thing that takes you out.

  • All the possibles crossed for you @mrsconn23! Hope you all stay healthy @banana468. Ugh to no heat @ei34. Hopefully it will be an easy and not too expensive fix.

Not much going on today. Had a massage at noon and have been looking at listing DS2's realtor sent him. We are going over there on Saturday to look at houses with him. Being a first time home buyer without a SO, he wants some parental support. It looks like he has some good options.
  • @banana468 I am cracking up at the thought of Chiquito as Gary and I'm obsessed with the fact that Spongebob has become so thoroughly entrenched in social culture.

I need him to be in the show because his costume involves him wearing a blue spandex morph suit, headband ears and a stuffed LL Bean backpack as his shell.   The thought makes me squeal with delight!

Also SO many of the girls in Chiquita's troop and honorary troop girls are in this and I love them.   Many of them are friends and moms are friends of mine and they were there delivering get well gifts when she was hospitalized.  So we are super excited and Chiquita is hoping to go to all the shows.
  • When I was working in college at Circuit City, we had videogames.  A parent called in asking for Spongebob Squarepants [name of video game].  I had no idea what this person was talking about and could not understand what they were saying.  I said, "Okay say this to me one word at a time and I'm going to write it down".  Sponge, Bob, Square Pants?  WTH is this?  The person on the phone was cackling with laughter and said, "You don't have kids do you?"  I did find what they were looking for and we had a laugh when they came in.  And that's how I learned about this show.

Nothing much going on here.  I've taken Friday off and will go see Mom.  It's supposed to be fairly warm on Friday, but the weekend is taking a nose dive, with temps 18-25 degrees below normal for us.  So I'm glad I'll be inside for all of that.
  • @ei34, yikes!  I hope your heat gets fixed and it's something easy and cheap.

@mrsconn23, good luck with the interview!  Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

@levioosa. is the air quality going to be okay for your Grandma tomorrow?  Did ash get into their house?  If so, I really hope she isn't too overwhelmed with cleaning.  I'm also assuming everything in the house smells like smoke, which is also daunting.

When I was in college, there were several wildfires that hit north San Diego county.  Some of my friends were in an apartment complex across the street from one of them.  Though a big street (six lanes) and thankfully the fire never crossed it.  However, when they returned home, they had to throw out their upholstered furniture and all their clothes.  Even several washing couldn't get the smoke smell out.  My apartment complex was about a mile further away, but all of our stuff was fine.

@Casadena, I'm glad you are liking and more challenged by your new job, but I also understand that isn't always a plus.

@ILoveBeachMusic, I'm a little jealous!  There is so much bang for your buck with OH real estate.

New Orleans is dropping below freezing (barely) next week and there is even a snowflake icon for Mon/Tues (squee!).  But in reality even if it snows, it won't be cold enough to stay on the ground and where is the fun in that?  But at least the comments in the New Orleans subreddit are funny.  Like, "Looks like the Lions are going to win the SuperBowl!  Because hell is already freezing over."

My H brought a surprise cream cheese king cake home from one of the best places (Dong Phoung) in town!  You either had to pre-order it a few weeks ago or go to that bakery 1-2 hours before they open, to get one.  But some stores carry them also and promptly sell out almost as soon as they put it on the shelves.  My H passes a small place at his p/t job downtown.  He saw plain DP king cakes there...plain is not acceptable in our house, lol...the other day and asked.  They said they usually get their delivery around 10-10:30am.  He was strategically there around that time and snagged one!  Yay!

  • Unfortunately the water in my grandparent's town has now been deemed unsafe. No drinking, minimal shower time, okay to water and wash things down with, but really shouldn't even be used for laundry. I understand wanting to return home, but they really should be out until at least they can reliably use the water. I am sure it's going to be a mess. I can only imagine the amount of ash we're going to find.

oh jeez that's scary about the water @levioosa!

i'm a touch too old to have caught the spongebob craze when it came out, and my kids are too young (I mean, they have friends who know who spongebob is, in some vague way they know, but they aren't fans).  but I have years and years of students who adore SpongeBob!

thanks everyone, heat is back on.  thanks @banana468 ExH i think overexerts himself when he goes overboard on bs, now I haven't heard from him since Monday, I always appreciate when he lays low
