Back from the family beach vacation, it was really nice. I think that the highlight was all of the great cousin time my kids had.
My kids’ Arts Camp is over, so my per diem work schedule will now consolidate a bit- no more popping in for an hour here, two hours there, since there’s a sitter to coordinate.

Not working today though, just in unpacking/cooking mode, so I’m going to play catch up on last week and the Prudies.

@levioosa sending all the healing vibes your way for both you and your family.
  • Still thinking of you @levioosa

Birthday weekend was excellent! Hanging with lots of friends, good dinner with close friends, shopping with Baby J (who did great in the store!).

Finally got my foot checked out- I’ve been having some pain that came on slowly and has gradually gotten worse. Got ex rays this morning and it’s a stress fracture. So I’m in a boot for a few weeks. Definitely a bummer but I kind of knew it was coming.

It was a good weekend.  I fixed my turn table (it was super easy, it's just that I didn't know how and had to figure it out), so I'm about to put on my new Doeechi album while working.  I puttered about doing small chores, but nothing really big right now.  I'm definitely deeply depressed, but I'm working with it.  Mom and I had another tiff, but I was able to fix what she was mad about, once she got out of my way and let me do it.  I went and saw some friends Saturday night for a couple of hours and that was nice.  One last trip for donations and to the computer recycling and everything is officially finished with moving in.  Now just to...get used to all of this.

I have sooooo many movie tickets coming up and I'm excited.  I think it'll be healthy for me to have one of my favorite hobbies restored.  I'm practicing saying "I don't need anything" to the servers though, b/c the concessions bills can get pricey.

Healing vibes @charlotte989875 and I’m glad the 40th celebrations were fun
@varunaTT wait, does your movie theater have servers who come around and take orders? (And im glad that you’re picking up that pastime again)

@ei34 Yes, we have an Alamo Drafthouse.  Their big selling point is usually that they have a full menu available at the theatre, with servers who take orders, drop off food, and get your refills.  Their popcorn is actually quite good, so I don't sneak in my own anymore (and it doesn't hurt my digestive system somehow, with no gallbladder).  But their food is pretty good too...great burgers, yummy pizza (the roasted brussel sprout, bacon, and goat cheese is a favorite), and a few other things.  Every now and then I splurge and get the parmesan/truffle oil popcorn.  Sooooo good, but sooooo rich and usually stomach ache inducing.  They also have a few NA beers and mocktails, and they'll do themed menus which usually add something quite good to the menu for a limited time.
  • @levioosa you were on my mind throughout the weekend.

Weekend was decent.  Chiquita was away for a retreat so it was solo time with Chiquito.  We were pretty quiet and I had to get some additional work done but we did go out to eat Saturday and last night tucked in for dinner and a movie at home showing the kids Men in Black.  I'm trying to pull the classics out every now and then.

Weekend was nice and quiet - a rarity in our house. G has been asking for months to have some alone time with Gma and Gpa so Friday I took him to my parents house and they're bringing him back tomorrow. Feeling like we really have a big kid and wow do I miss him. It was really nice to have some quality time with N though - he doesn't often get time alone with both of us.

WFH today and got the lawn mowed while I listened to a meeting (that I obviously did not have to participate in), crossed a few things off the to do list, and am vacuuming the whole house and doing laundry.
  • We had company for the weekend and now I'm getting ready for all 3 boys to arrive for Nana/Papa camp 2025. We will be very busy starting Wednesday! I had a follow up with the ortho PA today. She was disappointed that the injection hadn't improved my pain level more. Now I'm trying gabapentin.Hopefully that will help.

@VarunaTT that’s so interesting to me, real food in movie theaters. We have AMCs by us, so sure, they sell personal pizzas and chicken tenders
alongside the popcorn and candy, but I’ve never actually seen anyone ordering them.  I’m intrigued. It sounds like dinner and a show all in one
  • Downtown Chicago has an Alamo. My friend and I couldn’t get in at a restaurant one night so we used it as a restaurant and not a movie theatre. The food was good! But yeah, very pricey. The drink menu was cool too.
my amc has the menu & servers thing too but everything is pretty much pre made and just warmed up there. The stuff is sooooo salty, I can’t eat any of it. There is a good theatre around here that’s not a chain and also serves food. But the damn chairs are office chairs along a conference like table. How am I supposed to fall asleep after my 3,000 calorie meal in office chairs?

  • There's a luxury cinema about 20 minutes from my house that has beer and wine and chicken tenders as food.  They partner with a local vineyard and maybe a local brewery so it's not just luxury but a way to feature local places.  THey have the  nice recliner seating too.

There are a couple of these near us- Studio movie grill and a couple others who's names I can't remember. The one we go to most often has office chairs in the two handicap accessible rows. They're usually empty or sparsely populated, so you can get a seat in the row right behind them and roll them out of the way so you can see the full screen even if you're totally reclined. But we usually go to movies at times when no one is there; there might actually be other people during "normal" movie times.

It's nice.  Sometimes I'll just say, "I'm eating dinner at the movie".  It's pretty hard to get out for less than $20, even with just popcorn, soda, and tip.  And I don't HAVE to buy, but it's just such a nice service.  I'm not sure how the chain works, but our Alamo even has specialty "regional" dishes that other Alamos don't carry.  I've never had anything I didn't like.  I do try to be careful with what I'm ordering; there are folx that order a salad and...I just don't think I can eat a salad in the dark?  They also have special Sunday brunch menus.

Oh man, one time, a good friend and I went to the Labyrinth movie party.  I ended up buying a bottle of wine for us.  Then, we randomly decided to stay and see the first Batman showing (they always have older and art house movies showing, which is my favorite, it's rare I see a new release there).  We had time to kill, so polished off another bottle of wine.  We then ordered a 3rd during Batman.  We were well and truly drunk by the time the movie was over, we both had to take Ubers home.  We also had some people join us for Batman and we had the server come by and tell us we were being too loud b/c we were singing/quoting along with Batman (which had been okay during Labyrinth b/c the ENTIRE movie theatre was doing the same, but apparently Batman is serious business).

Alamo does have an actual restaurant in it, so you could just go to the restaurant and not the movies to order food.  I think ours is called the Backlot.  They have drag shows, trivia, and a lot of other activities in it.  This is where I rented the small private theatre for my birthday.
