Prudie Day

How's everyone doing today?

Re: Prudie Day

  • Doing pretty well.  It's spring-like weather here and a nice break from the frigid temps.

I have a haircut tonight and need to get ingredients for a chili cheese dip to take to work tomorrow.

Saturday, we'll order dinner in for VD.  Sunday, we are meeting out-of-town friends for brunch.  In the afternoon, I'm planning to attend a Singing Resistance event at a local park.  In the evening is Confirmation.  Then it's back to work.

At work next week, we have a week of assessments for new hires as an "final" for their onboarding program.  DH has an appointment with his new primary on Wednesday, and I have a post-op follow-up on my left eye.  Friday is the cataract procedure on my right.  I can't wait for it to be done.  Not because it's painful or difficult, but because then I'll be ready for a new eye glass script and will be able to see clearly.  Right now, I don't wear glasses for distance but things aren't sharp.  I'm using readers for close-up and I hate the on/off of that.  My refraction is scheduled for the end of March.

  • Just finished a virtual workout with our trainer (we've been doing virtual since we've been in Chicago). Now I'm going to look for an online step workout and see how my back does with that. I'm meeting a college friend for lunch today then the rest of the afternoon is free- reading and watching the Olympics. I finally got my Medicare number yesterday- just in time for my appointment to sign up for supplemental items. Whew!

Super sad to have heard about James Van der beek's passing.  I knew he was sick, but still feeling really sad about it.  My parents didn't let me watch Saved by the Bell, saying it was too mature, but I was 14 when Dawson's Creek came out and they permitted me to watch it- it was my first "grown up" show and the actors from the show still feel almost like friends.

I'm on the cusp of a cold but hope it goes away, pounding green tea and Vitamin C and hoping for the best.
SSDD at work.  One of the kids has something that starts at 6 and another has something that ends at 6, and the two locations are a good 10-12 minutes away from each other.  They're also niche happenings that other kids we know well won't be at, so I can't tap into mom friends.  One of me is usually enough so times like this are rare, they're just each going to have to do some waiting around (in the dark. And the cold. Sorry guys!).
  • @ei34 I don't think I've ever read anything bad about James Van der Beek. I didn't really watch Dawson's Creek but I did love him in the B in Apt 23. He played the worst cocky version of himself and you could tell it was all in good fun. You got the feeling it was extra funny because he wasn't actually like that in real life. Kind of like Keanu Reeves character in Always Be My Maybe.

Otherwise, SSDD. H went to help my parents yesterday and came back in a huge funk. I get it, but I also try to tell him he has to just remove himself emotionally from the situation. Years of trauma and now therapy mean I just don't usually get worked up by the stuff I'm unable to change. I also respect the fact that the house just oozes mental health disease, and being there for a solid day is enough to tax anyone. He also had to go into the space where my brother passed away, which hasn't been touched since he passed, so that was not great either. I hope he feels better today.

    Sending everyone good vibes today.

@MNNEBride, my mom just had cataracts done a few months ago and regrets nothing!
:( to your H @levioosa, that must have been difficult walking in there.
I don’t even remember the announcement that JVB was ill, so it was a double shock to me of his passing.

2 hours left till vaca #1 of 2026.
Our cruise leaves tomorrow, and my flight is tonight. I can’t remember of I mentioned it on here but one of our friends, C, just booked an excursion without asking any of us, a special dining reservation without asking - and put us all on dinner reservations even though we have “anytime dining” and we were just going to go when we’re hungry like we do all cruises. Ummm why do people think you’re controlling and self centered, C? I took myself off the special dining. I’m not paying extra for a sushi place when I don’t like it, and my other friend, S, said she’ll wait till she’s on the ship to do the same. I think C did this because it was valentine’s day? (The reservation was made for Saturday) but the whole trip is a girls trip and 3 out of the 4 of us can’t (or won’t) even eat shellfish. She went about it the wrong way. You should ask your party if they want to shell out even more money to eat special and where? Not just book it for us.
Lord help me, because I have the next 10 days with her/them.

  • @CharmedPam was this the friend you were trying to phase out of traveling with from your last trip?

Yes! We have this trip, another cruise and then Japan, which we booked over 1.5 years out. Ugh

  • Chiquita went to school but now DH started coughing and felt like crud.  I'm hoping to stay out of the fray but it may be a Valentine's single mug cake for me Saturday.
  • Major change today. My immediate boss suddenly resigned from our firm so I have to step into his shoes in many respects. But the department head and I had a discussion and we'll be able to handle things.

Things are picking up both work-wise and in my personal life. I'm in several play readings this week all the way through Sunday night and I have several other things going on too. Hopefully things will slow down a bit next week.
