Prudie Day

Wishing all a good day!

Re: Prudie Day

  • Happy Thursday. In a much better mood today than yesterday, even though some work gloom still is over all our heads (they’re starting the layoffs). We had some bad storms yesterday and apparently new (worse) ones are rolling in. I got a weird text from my utility company overnight, saying they knew I was out of power and they’d try to restore it by Saturday. I don’t know what they were talking about because my TV and fan was still on and no blinking time on the stove? But if I WERE out of power… you’re saying Saturday is the best you can do?!?

  • Yikes!  We get that out here before bad storms sometimes.  Maybe there are neighboring streets that had no power?  It is SO frustrating!  The worst was superstorm Sandy in 2012.  It wasn't a tropical storm when it hit here but it was a menace and we had no power from a Monday night until Saturday.  Luckily the weather cooperated but it's not fun at all to have no power in the heat.

lot of SSDD.  Work is still crazy busy and the kids are starting to wind down the school year.  Chiquita has finals and I'm kind of on edge hoping she pulls through doing what I know she can.
  • I'm settling back into normal. We got back from Mexico late Tuesday. The trip and the place were great, but I'm not sure whether I'd travel with those friends again. I do love them, but I think I love them more in small doses. I think we were all getting on each other's nerves by Monday.

Work is corporate nonsense. I had to go in yesterday for one of those all day leadership strategy things. The takeaway is that normally we're working to stabilize after change, but this time change is just going to keep going and there will be no stability. How is a business supposed to function like that? Whatever.

Nothing much else. It's hot and I have a nice tan, so I'm about to walk the dog in a cute little tank.
  • Change seems to be the only stable thing at my company, too. We are definitely experiencing change fatigue with no relief in sight. It's exhausting.

We had our annual plumbing and HVAC check done this morning. We had to replace a part under warranty but pay for the labor.

This afternoon, we have a palliative care appointment for DH. Hoping they are aware of some resources we aren't familiar with in-home therapy or caregiving. It's not been a good day so far for him & I; he seems weaker and has been more confused in the past month. I have a feeling we've moved to the next stage of the disease.

We had almost an inch of rain yesterday and storms around us.  We did have a bit of pea-sized hail, but it didn't last long.  I had moved my plants into the garage before it started.  It rained this morning after I put them back out, so hopefully they'll benefit from that.  I do have a full rain barrel I can water from.

Work change here too. The merger is ramping up. Boo to mergers. I just hope having the contract we currently have saves us from any drastic changes but I'm also realistic.

Otherwise, today is chugging along. It is hot out, 93, and I'm not ready for it. I know it's hot out because I can finally wear "cute" work clothes instead of looking like I'm ready for snow in the office. Apparently I'll never be happy with the weather, lol. But I am dreading it being 55-60 degrees in the office again during winter. For now at least 90% of my day is indoors and I'm more comfortable temp wise as long as I don't go outside.

Kitten is doing well! She's getting more spunk and her gums are looking more pink which is a good sign. Fingers crossed when we take her to the vet tomorrow she is negative for FIV/FIP.

Sending everyone good work vibes. It's tough out there.

@MNNEBride we found palliative care extremely helpful for my grandparents. Not just with the resources, but with covering things like depends, Ensure, etc. My Grandma broke her foot and they were even able to arrange for mobile x-ray to come to the house at one point. I hope you guys get a great palliative care service because it is life changing when they are good. Sending you hugs.
