Inexpensive North Shore Reception

Aloha guys,

I'm looking to have a reception somewhere between Haleiwa and kaawa.. I live in Laie and will be having my wedding ceremony in the Laie LDS Temple - a beautiful location! Yet, I am seriously having the hardest time finding a reception location. Turtle bay is an option, but is way out of my budget. Even Kualoa Ranch and Sunset Beach Ranch are out of the question for me. I would love to have it outside on a beach like Laie Beach Park or Kakela's Beach, but I'm pretty sure the rain in December might wash us out, even with a tent. But hey, I've only lived here a few years and maybe someone else has better predictions for December 29, 2012! Haha.

Many LDS couples from the University use the Universities ballroom (Which is underconstruction at the time) or an LDS Chapel (which is 100% free, but a little lame..) And if I do end up doing this, I'll need a caterer.

Please help girls, I know someone knows something that I don't!

Thanks!

Re: Inexpensive North Shore Reception

  • I've heard good things about Haleiwa Joe's... it's in the running for our rehersal dinner spot. We're doing our ceremony/reception at a vacation rental house in Waiaua.

I'm also leaning toward Formaggio Grill in Kailua. I know it's a little further on the east side, but it looks so nice! http://www.formaggio808.com/

And I'm not sure how big your party is, or what your budget is... but a dinner cruise would be cool! http://www.tombarefoot.com/oahu/dinner_oahu.html

    Good luck!

  • Thanks girls. I've looked into having it at a beach, but the wind in December on this side of this island is incredibly strong, isn't it? and if not wind, rain.. just worried me a bit. Haleiwa joes in Haleiwa (the one in kaneohe is beautiful, by the way, very great location) is about 45 minutes from my house. Is that pretty inconvenient to ask guests to go that far after the ceremony?

  • No, I don't think so...but I suppose it depends on whether you're planning to shuttle everyone to the venue. All our guests are staying in Waikiki and I'm shuttling them to a venue in the North Shore....!
  • I feel like the rain wouldn't be THAT bad in December...but then again, we did have that like 5 days of torential rain durring the wet season, so that is a tough call!

On the beach out there would be AMAZINNNGGGG though!  I adore Halei'wa beach park with the mountain views, and when the sun sets and lights up the clouds it's GORGEOUS from there!  They set tents up there often for "Once a Month" church, so I am sure a permit there wouldn't be an issue.
otherwise, I don't even know if it's an option, or expensive, but maybe Hawaiian Cultural Center or Waimea Valley?

Good luck, and CONGRATS on your wedding!

  • I'm getting married and having my reception at The Wedding Cottage. They've been pretty great so far.

I found them on VRBO.com when I was searching for a place to stay.

Bubsie if you don't mind me asking, how much was/is it to shuttle your guests from Waikiki to the north shore. I'm thinking about renting a house on the north shore but am worried it will cost a lot to shuttle guests back and forth.
