This was probably the most low key and informal wedding I've ever been too. There really is no tomdickery or foolery to be had to talk about except for the river rats who kept trying to drink from the open bar. Hm, wedding guest attire vs. river rat attire...it was pretty easy to tell.
I had some guy tell me that me that I had lots of great assets, while staring at my chest.
I fell down the hill before even having a beer. Stilettos + outside wedding = bad idea (I didn't know we'd actually be outside). Those suckers were off about 2 minutes later. DH came running over to see if I was alright and had to fend off drunk river rat who kept telling me he was an EMT and wanted to know if I needed mouth-to-mouth.
They had a friend do the ceremony. It's someone I've known since we were in Acting I together and he and I had bonded. It was really great to see him and we've reconnected in a big way. He was PERFECT for the ceremony, hit all the right balance of emotion and comedy. Not too many times you hear a giraffe referenced in a ceremony.
Bride had a cute white summer dress on. Groom had a seersucker suit, basically. They were silly happy all day. I reconnected with a chunk of college theatre friends and it was really wonderful to see how many of them actually work professionally in theatre, in various parts of the nation. Everyone looked happy, great and healthy.
They did a honeymoon registry, which I didn't care about until I read the fine print and the "gifts" listed to buy were actually "suggestions" of what they would do in Europe. I said screw that, cut a check and bought them a power adapter/ converter for the trip. I told them what it was since they didn't do a gift table and they both seemed pleased.
Cupcakes for the cake. Got to see the roller derby girl bruises. OUCH. Then started hearing the stories. OMG, I've never considered myself squeamish, but they had me going with the broken arm story.
Oh, they did all the food themselves. And holy moses, it was GOOD, all family recipes. I have to track down one recipe that I know was from the bride and was a lentil and black bean salad. I haven't quite found one online that sounds right.
Also, by the end of the night, I had a shot named after me. So all in all, a pretty good party.
