I thought of a story I wanted to tell earlier but I didnt have time. I was for some strange reason talking about the british office and I got talking about the dance david brent does and I decided for the hell of it to act it out. Ya, not realizing my boss was behind me and saw me do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qurTK_0re3Y thats what I did. I got laughed at so hard lol

  • Hi! We just finished dinner and now I'm watching FI play with the puppy I got him as a wedding gift.  I think the sleepless nights we're having crate training her is going to be worth it though.

Nebb, that's fun about your tomato plant.  I grew up on a farm, and it was always interesting to see the types of things that popped up in our pumpkin patch.

We're sitting here drinking our delicious chocolate PB smoothies and watching Deadliest Catch. And I'm enjoying my weekly Twitter chat with indie authors

Hey! haha we actually watch his new show, I like him in it. We claim we only watch it because we watch the show that comes on before it and we are too lazy to change it.

Just ordering a couple waist belts for cheap from asos, gonna watch storage wars.

I am also curious about the wisconsin recall, and I have barely been paying attention to it!

ETA: By "him" I mean Nebbs sig.
  • Kate- are you talking about "The B in Apartment 23" or something like that? I actually like that show too.  He's pretty funny playing "himself".

yeah I am. I hate the name of that show though. But, I guess it is pretty accurate.

Your doggie pic isn't showing up!
  • Steph - So far (only 8% reporting) Walker is in the lead.

I think if he wins again it would be such a huge waste of time and money.

  • It's clearly no surprise that I'd vote Republican ;) But I think the whole thing was a phenomonal waste of money and an abuse of the system, anyway.  He won. He didn't break any laws. meh.

I know it's completely divided the state. BUT I had heard that at 5pm (polls open until 8), they already had a 55% voter turnout.  So, I'm glad it's at least getting people to care about politics.

Yes and I have been doing nothing but all night. Luckily FH has put up with my over caffinated ramblings. Inc Wall O' Text.<div>
</div><div>We had an attempted murder trial. One person (G) was the accused shooter while the other (B) was the alleged look out. I'll be honest, in many gun violence cases in this city the victim is also a "bad guy." They are often both gang members and it's a lot of gang on gang crime. This case was not like that, at all.</div><div>
</div><div>The victim was a PhD student (veterinarian) seeking asylum in the US, originally from the Congo. He was just trying to walk to work early one morning when he was stopped by 2 individuals who asked him for weed. He didn't even know what they meant. They heard his heavy accent (first language was French) and realized he was a good target. He saw one guy pull a weapon and he ran. He was shot in the lower back and eventually collapsed. After he collapsed he was shot multiple times as the shooter asked him for money. The other guy (B) had been sent to act as look out.</div><div>
</div><div>The victim had no cash or anything of value on him. After being shot repeatedly in the legs and arm he was shot in the stomach. His guts were spilling out. He dove under a car to shield his vital organs. The shooter leaned under the car and shot him in the back of the neck. This was eventually investigated as a homicide because he was not expected to live but somehow he did.</div><div>
</div><div>When the man testified it was very hard not to cry and it was hard to be objective. There were language barrier issues throughout the investigation and in the mind of the jury, the cops didn't do a very good job.</div><div>
</div><div>For the shooter he gave a description, created a sketch that looked vaguely like the accused and was adamant and passionate in court that the shooter was the guy before him. For the look out he picked him out of a line up and that was it. He seemed less adamant in court and he spent less face time with the look out.</div><div>
</div><div>We found the alleged shooter guilty and the look out not guilty. There was 0 physical evidence for either. It was hard, it was really hard. We deliberated for at least 6 hours to get to that point. I was one of the last hold outs to convict G. There was so much info missing (why were they even suspects?!) but we trusted the ID for the shooter at least. </div><div>
</div><div>One thing that was "not evidence" but was interesting was that the label on the shell casings showed that they were matched to a clip found at the scene of a murder that took place 4 days later. We could not infer that the two were related and the weapon in our crime was never found. </div><div>
</div><div>So we found G guilty and the audience was in tears and hysterical. When it switched to B and he was not guilty his lawyer teared up and was hugging him the whole time.</div><div>
</div><div>We were dismissed and there were a lot of tears. Despite being confident in our decision, it was hard to watch that pain be inflicted in the defendant's family.</div><div>
</div><div>So tonight I come home and can finally google the suspects. Turns out the shooter is also charged with the homicide that the gun clip was linked too while the alleged look out is not. This was a small mental relief to me. I also learned that while the shooter had a "real" lawyer, the look out had a public defender. While I think they both did a good job, the PD seemed to care more. This could have been acting though and part of what made her a good lawyer.</div><div>
</div><div>Sorry for the longest post ever. That is my version of an abbreviated synopsis. The long version would have me up all night. </div><div> </div>

  • holy crap celtic. That's all I can respond with right now.

Dot- LONG story short, Walker (R) was elected as governor in 2010.  He passed some pretty big changes, and is now known as the 'union busting' guy.  He didn't do anything illegal, or really anything other than what he said he woudl do. Although, it was kind of sudden and a little shady.  Well, people got all pissed off so they got him recalled. Got enough signatures, etc.  (Even though like 1/3 of them were questionable apparently.)

So tonight was the recall election where Walker has apparently been RE-elected governor. Thus wasting a whole lot of time and taxpayer money. Because the Dems voted in the primary to send the same guy on the ballot that Walker already defeated in 2010.
  • Okay, last try. Hopefully it isn't huge.  This is of FI and Peach (as in Princess Peach of Mario fame).

  • Steph is obviously way better at making a long story short than I am! I was kind of horrified that the charge sheet today was wrong. They were accused of attempted robbery among other things but the sheet said robbery. We waited an hour for that to be fixed. I am also pissed that the victim's name was spelled different on every document. I want to learn how he is now. Did he receive asylum, did he get his phd?

  • Steph got most of that...

However, it is looking more and more like Walker has been up to no good.  5/6 of his employees as county executive have been charged with felonies and he is not cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

I'm a strong democrat, but I did not sign the recal petitions because at that time he hadn't been acused of any real misconduct (so didn't agree with the idea of a recall for non criminal activity).  I did vote against him today though.

The whole process has been a circus.  Today the republicans made robocalls that told voters that if they signed the recall petition they didn't have to vote, that their petition signature counted.  It's a huge mess and there is some shameful activity on both sides.

    <div>woah. I hadn't heard about that. That's terrible.</div><div>
</div><div>Was it Walker's camp though? Or some other pro-Walker group? Either way it's awful, but is Walker to blame?</div><div>
</div><div>I mean. the whole thing has been a mess from what I've been following. There are also videos of Dems bribing underage kids at inner-city Milwaukee schools to sign the petition... by giving them cigarettes. Not only can you not vote if you're under 18, but smoking is also illegal. Not to mention the whole bribery factor.</div>
