GRE? GMAT? Bueller?

You know, I could put my hands on actual score reports within about 3 minutes. I'm not sure if that is sad or awesome.

  • GRE and I don't have a clue about my score. I think I blocked it out.

I was smart and took it right at the end of undergrad so I wouldn't forget everything, even though I had no intention at that time of going to grad school. Then I took the GMAT about 6m after graduation for the same reason.

In the end, I ended up getting a MS from a business school, so I think they would have accepted either test. I also ended up retaking the GRE in 2003 while I was considering PA school.

Damn. I have taken a lot of standardized tests.

  • GRE.  That test is horrible.  I submitted myself to it twice trying to get into grad school.  I failed miserably.

  • I think the GMAT was what I took and rocked.  It was purely a formality because I was already admitted to a 5 year program and just had to show up one Saturday and take this thing and then scored in the 99th percentile.  For a split second I considered taking those scores and trying to apply to fancier schools.

But maybe it was something else.

I took the 'biology major field test' but I can't find my results.  It was part of the 'exit exam' to get my degree:

I will say, I did awesome.  No false modesty here.

You know, I don't think I ever got below 98th %ile on any standardized test. I mean, I'm smart and all, but there are plenty of people just as smart as I am who just don't test that well. (And many less smart people who wrongly blame their scores on "I don't test well.")

Really, I know I was lucky to have spent my academic career in a system that would judge me via a mechanism I was so good at.

  • GRE. Did well enought to get into a program. I got all As when I was there, not that it ever mattered. Worked four jobs that I hate/was over-qualified for, until I found this job. And it was aaaaaall worth it.
