Bridal Shows

We went to our first bridal expo yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised at what a great experience it was!  We got to meet so many people, so I was easily able to put some vendors on my list to follow up, and some vendors that I didn't think I clicked with, well, they got my fake phone number.  And the cake!! So much cake!! We thought we had a cake plan, and it is so turned upside down now (pink lemonade cake with lemonade filling for my summery, outside wedding?  Yes please!)
Anyone else gone to any yet?

I'm going to one in a couple weeks with my FMIL and my sister (my MOH) around here. Pretty excited about it, especially my sister! She was saying how we should put together a notebook/binder for it lol! My FSIL (also will be a BM) will be working the event modeling wedding dresses. She will be sitting in the bridal store's booth as a living mannequin which I think is kinda cool!

  • I love love LOVE bridal shows! My MOH always comes with me and we have a blast! We have a collection of photo strips from all the photobooth vendors! It's definitely a great way to meet vendors and a lot of them have good deals for the shows that they send you via email of your interested. So much fun! I think I'll miss expos the most of wedding planning!

  • I love bridal shows!! (I've been to a bunch before getting engaged - As a BM and Friend - but it's different when it's for you!!)

There is about 20 around here this month it's crazy!

My MoH and BM's all want to go to them so I'm likely to be going to some of them LOL I don't mind the selection ahaha.

I went to 2 this weekend - One was awesome the other was meh. This couture wedding dress store has a TON of dresses on clearance right now (my friend bought a $1800 dress for $200 yesterday!!) so I am actually going to go into their shop sometime very soon to check it out. I told FI about the crazy prices and how my friend got 2 dresses for under $500 (She bought her 1st dress in the US for $300 and then the 2nd yesterday on a whim - it's gorgeous!) I am SOOO tempted to buy one as well if it's under $300!

My suggestions for large wedding shows:

*If it's a large one, bring a rolling cart of some sort to carry the million and one things/bags/magazines etc you'll receive!

*Make yourself a wedding email address! You will be receiving LOADS of emails - good and bad!
    Mine is simple like KnDwedding@emailprovider.com

*Make yourself some labels to save yourself from handcramps!
    Example:
    _________________________________________________________
Bride: SSSDee LastName Groom: FName LName
    Wedding Date: June 22nd 2013
    Location:  City or TBD
    Email Address: sssdeewedding@company.com
    Address: 123 Anywhere St, Ontario, A1B 2C3
    _________________________________________________________
(I don't really put my phone number on it because I'd rather be hounded with emails than calls lol)

*Bottled water and some stacks are definitely a must to have on hand as well! (Saves you $$ from buying it there!)

    *Comfy clothes and shoes!

    Hope that helps ya out!

Yup, we had a blast, lots of cake!  And they had bottled water everywhere since it was so unseasonably warm.  There's one at the convention center I think, first week in February.

  • Some advice for expos...make labels! You're going to be asked 100 times to write your information down so if its already printed on a label its as easy as peel and stick!!

<div>This! </div><div>Labels are a lifesaver. And definitely make a separate wedding email, I didn't do that for this first show and I regret it. For all future ones I'm going to give them the new one. </div>

  • I'm going to my first one on Sunday!

sssdee - thanks for the great tips!
Do vendors really need your address? I can use google to set up an email account and a phone number that I can cancel later, but I can't fake my address. I don't want endless bridal junk mail. Can I leave that off my sticker or will vendors make me write it anyway?

What size labels do people use? Or it doesn't matter much?

In case others are interested in the fake phone number thing...
It's called google voice. It'll link to an email account and a real life phone number. Google attempts to transcribe your voice mails and email them to you. It also forwards all calls to whatever phone number you want. Or not! You can go to into settings, click on the Calls tab and half way down select "Enable Do Not Disturb" and then all your calls go straight to voice mail. Which then gets emailed to you. I love it.
  • I'm sorry, I should have clarified the format of the labels. You do not include your address...ive never had a vendor ask for it! Your label should include name, email, phone number and wedding date! As for size, just the regular sized return address labels that you can create in microsoft word!
