Can you pull off a rustic look in a banquet hall?

Re: Can you pull off a rustic look in a banquet hall?

  • If MilkDuds says it can be done, it can.
  • Do you have pictures of the venue?

  • I hope so!  That's what I'm attempting to do too. =)  My plan, as MilkDuds mentioned, is to focus on decor.  I'm thinking of using candles to help close the gap between rustic and formal. But unfortunately, that's about all I've got right now.
  • I'm desperate to do that, too! Do lots of DIY, string lights if you can, and put lots of greenery in your decor. Mason jars always create a feeling of rusticness (is that a word?)

Unfortunately, my FI is leaning more towards a mad men, 1950's glamorous net veils and pinstripes wedding and since he doesn't care about much else, I'll give him that.
"So what? So it's not going to be easy. It's gonna be hard.
Really hard. But I wanna do that because I want you
    - all of you, you and me, every day. Forever."

I agree with pp....a mixture of  mason jars filled with moss, and candles....maybe even have like old fashioned looking oil lanterns...earth-tones... and again stringing lights if possible would help.... but DEFINITELY doable!!!

  • A friend made moss covered wreathes in the shape of their initials.  She used chicken wire to shape a "J",  a "+" and an "M".  (Their initials).  She stuffed the chicken wire with pieces of floral foam and then stuck/glued moss all over the wire and foam construct.  She hung these three wreathes over the head table where the bride and groom sat with the MOH, Best Man and their spouses.

She also used a runner of river rocks topped with blue mason jars with small votive candles.  The rectangular head table had a rectagular runner while the round tables had round runners.  The groom had cut circles of plywood and framed them with molding so that the rocks were contained on the tables.   Her bouquet and the MOH's bouquet were wildflowers picked from his aunt's garden.  Her cake had a circle of wildflowers as the topper as well.

She hung a backdrop of bleached muslin along two walls to cover the bulletin boards.
Her "hall"  was a local Elks club and was not very elegant to start with.  These subtle touches plus all the happiness in the room gave her a beautiful wedding.
  • I just saw another idea when I googled images for ideas..... You may or may not like this but I thought it was a cute and very inexpensive way to decorate without really looking cheap.... I know I had mentioned the different sizes of mason jars with candles, but when you mix those with clean soup cans (label removed) filled with baby's breath, or wild flowers, I think that would be a VERY ideal rustic look.... again that is just MY opinion!!!

  • So sorry for the late response!
Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the venue. However, here's my inspiration for therustic idea. http://pinterest.com/pin/42713896435565061/
