Rehearsal Dinner...HELP

Our rehearsal dinner guest list has just grown...and our old location is no longer going to fit all of us!
So, where are/did you having/have your RDs or can you give any advice on a room that can fit between 40 and 50 people? We are located in the Syracuse Area (liverpool, specifically!)

TIA!

First comes Love (2.23.2006)
Then comes Marriage (6.23.2012)
Then comes Baby #1 (5.10.2013)
And Baby #2 (EDD 6.15.2014)
In the baby carriage!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner...HELP

  • I've been searching for a good rehearsal dinner location as well. There's Rico's Ristorante in East Syracuse, they have family-style banquets for a pretty reasonable price. They can definitely host a party your size. I was also looking at Colemans, Craftsman Inn, Spinning Wheel....it all depends on what kind of food you're looking for and at what price. I'd like to keep my rehearsal dinner around $20pp including beverages. I'm open to other suggestions!

  • We ended up doing a cookout and had a ton of fun. If that's an option for you, you can save a ton of money.

  • Monica! Hope your doing well!!! Its been awhile!

We're leaning towards a bbq type RD now, with so many people now it seems like the best option. Even if we get some Dino BBQ take out, some cases of beer and soda, it might be cheaper than having it in a restaurant, and a little less hectic, IMO. Right now, we are having it at The Retreat in L'pool, and it is crazyy busy on weekend nights in the summer. Thanks for the advice!

Also, MCTD, The Spinning Wheel is great! FI had a work party there, and the food was delicious and there is a HUGE dessert bar. Price isn't too bad either, but I know they book quick.

  • Have you checked the Retreat? They have a big back room they use for large functions. Or depending on the season you might be able to use the patio. We're planning on hosting a catered backyard RD party since ALL of our geusts from out of town/out of state and will have nothing to do the night before. If you hav the space, that could be the cheapest and most stress free option.

  • I would loooove a catered Dino BBQ dinner!  It would be easy to pick up drinks too.  Where would you host the dinner though?

I'm doing great! Thanks!  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />  Time is absolutely flying... I can't believe we are coming up on one year of married life.  Seems like just yesterday I was knee deep in planning madness.

We did the BBQ for the same reason... Our guest list grew and grew and like PP, we had tons of traveling guests with nothing to do. It was wonderful to spend some extra time with all of them and to kick back in such a relaxed way (grilling burgers and dogs, drinking beer and telling stories)... the wedding day was such a blur it was nice to have that extra time. We did ours at a cottage we rented on Seneca Lake and it worked beautifully.

Local to Syracuse/Liverpool, I would consider snagging a pavillion at Onondaga Lake Park (I am prety sure these can be reserved in advance).  Oneida Lake park is a bit farther out, but also nice.

Some other options might be renting out a room or fire hall or even a smaller/less popular restaurant that has an outdoor area. The main problem with a restaurant is that most will force you to use their food and buy their drinks... Which is where it gets pricey.  Dinosaur BBQ has a really cool private room upstairs and some moderately priced catering options, but I think you have to reserve WAAAY far in advance.

Does anyone you know have a large yard that would be willing to host?

The Retreat is really nice, but you are absolutely right that it is a madhouse on Friday/Saturday nights... and the drinks can get expensive.

Best of luck!  Can't wait to hear what you decide.

  • I'm also in the Syracuse area (Lakeland) and we haven't been able to think of a place to have the RD, although we have a bit longer than you do to figure it out.  We never thought of the Retreat though.
