LJ-style sappiness, watch out.

This may be too June Cleaver for some, but I wanted to post about everything I'm really happy about and invite others to do the same.

I know a lot of people have said it's really hard to get into the holiday spirit right now.  That makes me sad, but it also makes me grateful for the bits of joy that jump out when we least expect it.  I'm so happy that FI and I found each other and that somehow, despite everything, things worked out for us to be together.  I'm grateful that I'm spending Christmas with FI and my family, and that I'm not dreading family drama and guilt for the first time since I can remember.

I freaking love snow in December and how it sticks to all of the trees around here. I'm seriously living in a postcard, complete with smoke rising from our neighbor's chimney. I'm going to make some cider and split pea soup, wait for FI to come home, and then watch Dexter into the wee hours of the morning before we start the drive to Minneapolis tomorrow.

Wherever you are and whoever you are, I hope you're having a wonderful holiday season and that there's joy somewhere in your life. I've learned a lot from everyone on here, and even though I bitch about (P&)E sometimes, I'm glad it's here.

Peace and joy.

  • Wow, that was sappy. But in a good way.

I also love this time of year. Last night we had a really thick horfrost, and it hasn't gone away yet! It looks and feels like Xmas outside, even if we don't have the 10 feet of snow, or the 4 or 5 blizzards by now that we're used to.

  • This is inspiring. Snow is magical that way, and can make any day seem holidayish. I had a nice moment like this today when I was out for a walk in our neighborhood... the sun was starting to set and the clouds were this beautiful violet color, and in front were little smoking chimneys and lamp posts. It was quiet and very peaceful. Then I came home and saw our tree glowing in the window and felt all warm and fuzzy.

I wish for everyone safe travels and warm, familiar times with loved ones. And I am also thankful for (P&)E, or at least what's left of it.

  • You can totally make fun of me, but what's a horfrost? I must be having trouble with the Canadian language barrier ;)

Gina, I usually have enough Christmas spririt for ten people. I start the carols the day after Thanksgiving and don't stop until FI wrestles Pandora away from me.
  • Hope you have a great holiday, Poli!

Isn't it hoar frost?  Basically the trees get coated with a thick layer of frost and it's soooo pretty.

  • Awww, Poli. I like this thread! I'm beyond excited about Christmas. I've always loved this tme of year, but there is something so cool about experiencing it through Ben's eyes. We are starting our own family traditions this year and I love that. And we actually still have snow on the ground, so it might very well be a semi-white Christmas.

And on another positive note. After 2 solid years of worrying that I was going to lose my job, I finally feel fairly comfortable and stable. And I'm taking over a week off starting Wednesday! Yay!
  • Happy Holidays everyone!  I love Poli's sappy side.

I'm also full of the Christmas spirit now.  I'm so happy I get to spend this Christmas with DH and we get to start making our own Christmas traditions and I don't have to deal with any of the arguments and drama that comes with Xmas with my family.  Plus we have a really pretty tree and the silly paper chains we decorated our hall with make me smile every time I see them.

Also, this morning I found out one of my good friends is pregnant! And her and her husband are visiting Jersey for the holidays so DH and I will get to see them for the first time since their wedding.

And finally, meeting everyone at the GTG last weekend was really good.  It's hard for me to meet new people and I generally get really anxious because I'm so shy and quiet but I had such an amazing time with all of those girls.
  • Poli what a great thread!  I love Christmas time.  I just received a Christmas card this week from a coworker I've become quite close with this past year and it said, "Joyful are those who see Christmas through the eyes of a child"  -  It's really true too.  I haven't had the Christmas spirit since my dad passed 5 years ago and this year watching it through my daughters eyes has really renewed my spirit.

Today I got to show her snow and how it felt on her hands.  She loved it and didn't want to come inside.

Also, in two threads you've mentioned two things I love.  Liquid smoke and Dexter!
