  We live in Raleigh, we will pretty much go anywhere in NC - asheville is too far west though.  My fiance lives on the water and we contemplated doing a backyard wedding, it would be beautiful, but we would be starting from scratch so I think it would cost more!

  Now looking at it again, this venue might not work for you, but it's the one that came to mind when I first read this thread. It was one of our top choices.

  It's an estate that sits along a lake. Check out photo number 8 in the ceremony slide show. Again, it might not work for you, but it's worth checking out the website.

  We are using Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure. Not sure if this is too far for you but it is gorgeous. The ceremony is on the lake on a gazebo and the reception overlooks the lake on a terrace that is covered and wraps around the restaurant. Hope this helps!
