Running of the Brides

I saw that the previously postponed running of the brides is now rescheduled for May 20. Has anyone ever participated in this event or planning on participating? I'm really wanting to check it out but it's 6 months before my wedding and I'm debating whether or not it's worth the risk! Everything I've read say buy your dress early enough and I already feel way behind because my wedding is in 8 months and I haven't even started looking at dresses.

I was not able to go, but wish I would have been able.

I have heard that it is worth it, but don't stress yourself out or get disappointed if you don't find a dress. Just go and have fun.

I have also heard it is worth it but i have never participated! My friend's sister said she went towards the end and found her perfect dress. She said to not go during the beginning when it is crazy packed and wait until the crowd dies down.

I'm planning to go! I would suggest looking now so you have some ideas and potential dresses in mind. If you participate in ROTB and you see "The One" well thats awesome! If not, you can go back to the ones you had in mind. I wouldn't waste the next two months and soley rely on this event though.

I went with my friend and it was a great experience for her.  We got there when the doors opened and the racks were picked over by the early bird brides.   The key was to walk around the changing areas.  Most brides will give you the dresses they are done with as it takes awhile for the staff to get them back to the racks.  she ended up buying a gorgeous ballgown with some bead/embroidery work for $250!

I hope all of you attending end up with the same experience!

Also, look in the back corner of the room by the shoes, and you will see all of the terrified male emplyees hiding out. =)

I did the Running of the Brides last Jan or Feb.  Be glad that it's in May if you plan on camping out all night!

We got to Filene's around 4am and were 4th or 5th in line.  I had 4 other women with me to help grab dresses.  We planned where to set up camp after the initial rush, and I just stripped down to my long-johns and a strapless bra to try on the dresses.  There were some men around, but I didn't really care...

We were able to trade dresses with women once I had ruled them out.  It helps to make friends with someone in line who is not the same size as you so you can lok out for dresses that would fit each other.

Most of the dresses were a little dirty - you could tell that they'd been through a few Running of the Brides before.  However, there were PLENTY of cleaning/alterations people from different Columbus businesses walking around explaining how they could clean something up or adjust the dress to make it fit you better.

There was one dress that fit me great and I loved the style of it - but it smashed in my boobs too much (this is def not a problem that I normally have).  Because it would've needed to be let out, I probably would've needed to add a corset back, and it just would've looked funny, so I wound up passing along that dress to another bride that was eyeing it up.

Overall, it was a great experience, but I don't know if I would do it again.  The friends I brought with me said they were glad they did it once, but they wouldn't do it when they were looking for a wedding dress.

    Hope that helps!

<div>I don't really remember there being any veils or jewelry.  Well, I think Filene's Basement sells jewelry anyways, but I don't think that's what you're talking about :)</div>

I really want to do it too, but it's a really busy time for me at work, and I don't know if I'd be able to get the time off :(  I guess maybe I could  go super early to ROTB and go into work a couple hours late.

For those who have gone, how much time did you spend in the store?  Were checkout lines really long?  I do Black Friday every year, and ROTB seems like a similar sort of chaos Smile

<div>We were there for a couple hours once the store opened.   It was still relatively hectic by the time we left, though a lot of the dresses were back on the rack.  I can't speak about the checkout lines because I didn't wind up buying a dress :-) </div>

I went with a friend two years ago...but it was earlier in the year and it was freezing! Brides start lining up the night before...it is totally crazy! I think it's worth it...but it's like Black Friday...if you want the best selection you need to get there early and wait in line! Atleast it should be warmer weather!

I would watch out because...you'll have to find someone to alter it. My friend had trouble finding someone experienced, because none of the local shops will alter a dress if you didn't purchase it there :-(

    Good luck!
