NWR - I was just curious......

So I don't know about you guys, but I'm on planning over-drive. Sometimes I realize that I need to slow down and do a few things that I enjoy that I would probably be doing if I wasn't so busy planning a wedding. I was wondering what kinda stuff do you guys do for fun or relaxation? Do you have a hobby such as crafting, or maybe do you enjoy being outdoors? Is there anything that you and your FH enjoy doing together? (other than certain obvious things!) I know that I need to remind myself sometimes that I'm am not just a mom or a woman that's getting married in the next six months, but I am also an artist who needs to make art!

  • I know what you mean, but most of my free time is spent planning lessons or activities for my real job!  I'm a school teacher at five different schools--elementary and junior high--and I'm usually kept pretty busy with that and the wedding planning to engage in any of my hobbies.

Though on the weekends, I try to get out and snowboard, or visit my friends.  I love karaoke, but admittedly I haven't done it in a few months. :(

I'd like to get back into bellydance when I return to Canada.  I used to teach, and haven't shaken my hips in almost two years now.

  • Holy crap TK is finally letting me post!

You are not alone! I am in major wedding mode right now, but I also have a lot that I like to do in my spare time. I am also an artist, so of course I like to draw, and create on my computer when not wedding planning. BUT I am also a sewer, a quilter, a model maker, and a miniature enthusiast. I am in the middle of making A 1/12 scale victorian house right now.

I also enjoy a number of random non art related hobbies. I love my pogo stick, biking, stunt kites, and body surfing. FI says he's gonna teach me wakeboarding, we'll see how that goes!
  • I know what you mean! I had no idea wedding planning was going to basically take over my life!

I just came back from a work cocktail party, and just realized how socially awkward I am, haha! I couldn't really think of anything to talk about since the wedding is all that's going on now. Like I told FI tonight, being blissfully happy makes for bad conversation.

But looking at all the DIY projects and crafts has definitely re-sparked my creativity and have fun doing wedding projects with Brian. Also, it has inspired me to take on some home improvement projects, and planning to start my own etsy shop soon!

  • I am also a bit artsy. I do a lot of crochet and i finally got back into it after the holidays.  Lately I've been trying to get some dog training classes up and running. Where I'm working now, they let the program stop completely, so it's like i'm starting from scratch, so lots of lesson plans and trying to advertise and just lots of work. my desk looks like a hurricane hit it right now!
  • oh and what FI and I do together... we play a lot of board games. we used to have board game nights, but those fell by the wayside as well. after the wedding, hopefully life returns to normal and we get more friends over for board games again!
  • I'm a little late to the party, but I'd like to answer as well.

My wedding isn't until next year, so I am not in full blown "planning mode," but sometimes I think that I do think about wedding related stuff too much (being on these boards does not help this at all).

Besides being a bride (tee hee), I am a student, I work a day job part time, I am helping FI start his own business, and I am about half way finished with a first draft of my first novel.    I also like to read, sing when the mood strikes, and I am slowly getting back into jogging.

FI and I like to cook together, watch movies, and play video games.  We also like to go for walks, go out for coffee, and just sit and work on our various projects together.  Oh, we also like to window shop for real estate :-)

Anyway, so yeah, having a nice wedding is important, but it's not the most important thing.  What's most important, I think, is having a life that is meaningful and fulfilling to you, whatever that means.  I totally know what it's like, though, to get caught up in other stuff, and because I appreciate it when my friends tell me this, I will say it to you: Go make your art!  Go do it!
  • Hobbies?? I don't have time for that!! Wedding planning really has taken over my life.  It's tough to have time for everything. I work full time as a software engineer, and I'm taking classes as well -- working on my MS in computer science.  One class at a time, but it does eat up a lot of time.

So, if I didn't have work, school, and wedding...  I'd probably be sewing.  I just started sewing last spring, but I had fun making vingtage-y clothing for myself.  I did manage to squeeze in a project during Xmas break -- 3 pairs of boxer shorts for my fiance (with robot, guitar, and vintage car prints)

I also play guitar a little and try to sing, so I'd love to have more time for that as well.  I bet my neighbors are glad I don't. :) My fiance and I started learning guitar together (my sister taught us), but he's defintely advanced far beyond my level.  Still it's fun to play and sing together sometimes.

Wedding planning has taken over his life quite a bit too, so at least I'm not alone. He's an artist & art teacher, and is doing a lot of DIY projects for our wedding.  Right now he's obsessing over paper and details for the invitations.  I've nickamed him "Groomzilla" :)

  • I knit, make jewelry, paint with acrylics, redecorate our house over and over, and read like it's going out of style. I usually read about 150 books a year (almost always fiction- horror, mysteries and thrillers.) I also like to build stuff- I built our deck in the backyard (YEAY) and I showed Chris how to build his mini ramp (he skateboards. And I'm much more adept with power tools than he) ;)

Chris and I watch movies like woah, we love thrift shopping and hanging out with our dogs, and we also do screen printing projects together. We keep busy :)

  • Wow! That was really awesome to read about all of the talents and hobbies that you all have! I was gone for a day to go shopping for the wedding *gulp* and visit some great friends who have two amazingly awesome children! When I came back I got to read about this creative stream!

FH has a Bachelors degree in fine art and loves to sketch and paint. We are planning on having an art show in 2011 after all of the wedding stuff is out of the way. His work blows my mind! He also loves book binding, wood working, and I introduced him to jewelry making. When I have time and room again (little munchkin in the studio is not a good thing!) I plan on starting my jewelry making again. When I am in jewelry making mode I DREAM in jewelry! I am constantly thinking about semi-precious gemstones and metals. Some more things that I enjoy are photography, painting, drawing with charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylics, I love them all. I also want to take after my sisters and take cake decorating classes. Even if it's just for fun and to have another creative experience. I want to start scrapbooking again. FH and I started when I was pregnant with our daughter, but we didn't really have time or room to do many paper crafts afterwards. We'll get back into it. ;) As a couple we also love going out for coffee, hiking, beach combing, collecting silly things like feathers and rocks, and we LOVE going to thrift stores and antique shops. Another thing that I REALLY love is gardening. I have been gardening with my mom since I was very little, but last summer I had my very first garden on my own! It was pure bliss! I'll be pretty busy this summer, but I plan on adding to my perennial flower garden and planting a wider variety of vegetables and herbs this year.
