Re: .

  • We stayed next door at the Marriot for our honeymoon in Oct. It looks like  a lovely resort but it is very family orienated. The area in general is great (a gated community) but if you do not have a car you are going to be stuck.

We hired a car for our whole stay (10 days) and drove to all the points of interest instead of going on expensive tours, It was also a great help for eating because the resort we stayed at didn't even offer one vegetarian meal at the restaurant so without a car we would have been out of luck.

There is a nice mexican restaurant across the road and a few more shops/restaurants are going in now that the disney hotel has opened.

The beaches are beautiful and not crowded which is what we were after.
  • Personally, I think anything with the "Disney" brand guarantees you will be surrounded by kids.  While I love kids and don't mind going on family-type vacations with just me and FI (we've been to Disney twice in 3 years), it's not what I'd want for my honeymoon, KWIM?  That said, everything Disney does is well-executed, so if using the vacation points makes it possible for you to go to Hawaii when you otherwise wouldn't be able to, I'm sure it would be a nice place to stay.

  • I have to precursor this by saying that I haven't stayed there. But, we did stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge for our HM and Aulani is built as a sister resort. We are currently looking into planning our own Hawaii trip and Aulani was our first thought because we love Disney so much. I spent a lot of time on disboards.com and reading other reviews and looking at guest photos. It's really unfortunate, but I just don't think you get a whole lot of bang for your buck.

You'll be using DVC points, so that's a bit different. We're not members. I feel that if I'm going to go to Hawaii, I'm going to do it right and get an ocean view room. What I was looking at was $600 a night and the view is beautiful, but you can actually get much better views and rooms for about $350 a night elsewhere at resorts that are very highly rated on tripadvisor.

The restaurants are not being as well reviewed as I would expect from a Disney resort. It seems as though they have some kinks to work out on their menus.

    HTH!

  • I have not stayed there, but from reading some of the reviews, the biggest complaint people seem to have is the food. It lacks variety and the service seems to be rather poor (as in, very limited dining times).

However, that's just what I've read...

  • If you're into disney for a honeymoon that's great!  I'm not sure about the place though, sorry!

However, I just wanted to bring this up:

I am pretty sure with disney vacation points you aren't limited to just disney world.  I belive my FI's parents have used theirs for somewhere in New York at one point.  I hope wherever you go is magical and just right for you!

  • We love Disney, but we're actually looking into the Disney owned resort in Hawaii, not any of the theme parks! Thanks so much for the website though, we might look at some of their other locations :)
  • Haven't stayed there but they are my client, and I will agree with the pps that they are a family-geared, authentic Hawaiian experience. The service and environment will be top-notch and genuinely Hawaiian (everyone who works there is encouraged to bring something of themselves, their culture, their background, that little something that makes them "them"), but it definitely is meant to generate family memories for a lifetime kinda thing -- like the rest of the Disney brand.

    Good luck!
