Make up counter question

I have a really pretty stupid question.  I'm getting my epics taken in two Saturdays, and I kinda suck at doing hair and make-up.  I do my hair and make-up the same way everyday (and its very much make-up light), and I really suck at doing things differently.  And for my epics, I want my features to be a little more defined, if that makes sense.

For my hair, I'm planning on just getting my hair cut and having them style it.  Nothing fancy, but I don't have a good straightener (I used to borrow my roommates chi, and that was fantastic, but FI doesn't have a straightener), and Im not good a using a curling iron.

Anyway, for my make-up, can I just go to a make up counter at a dept store, and ask for a demonstration?  Will they do all of my make up for me if I buy something? TIA...Ive just never bought make up from a make up counter before

    Yes, you can just go to a make up counter and ask to be made over - You can even tell them you're trying to figure out a new look (since you are) but don't know where to start. I'm partial to the Mac counter but anyone will do it. I'd stay away from Chanel, etcetera unless you want a more expensive product. It's easy to buy an inexpensive lip gloss from Clinique or inexpensive eyeshadow from Mac.

    Well, yes that's all you have to do. But if you don't like it, then you're stuck with it. I know that I tried this trick at the Clinque counter and they duped me by only doing half of my face. I don't think that the MAC counter will do your entire face, but I had them help with my eye shadow before. Except I hated it, and got stuck looking like an idiot for the rest of the night (I stopped in while I was on break from work). Clinique wants you to purchase so much in product if they do your make up, so find out what that is. I had it done for a wedding in the fall and I walked out with lipstick and eyeliner. GL!

    I'm partial to Clinique. You do have to buy product, but I think most of the time you can just get the lip gloss or eyeshadow they use. I would tell them the truth, that you're getting engagment photos taken and want to go with a little bit of a different look.

    You could also go and ask for help with a specific feature. If you like the way your foundation/powder/etc look, maybe go with just that on and ask them for help with your eyes. KWIM?

    MAC will do your whole face, at least the one at Macy's in town does.  I've used them on two occassions.  I usually end up buying something anyway because I feel guilty.  Also, Estee Lauder did my makeup for a friend's recent wedding, no purchase neccessary and I was really happy with it.  Again, I ended up buying a foundation brush, but I didn't have to.

    I went to a Clinique counter for my engagement photos. I called & reserved a time spot. I told her I wanted it done for my engagement photos & she did a really good job! They told me you just had to make a purchase - it was a minimum amount which I can't remember the total but it wasn't that much and it worked out  bc I was running out of eye shadow anyways ;)

    I went with an entire bridal party and we all got our makeup done at different counters. Most went with MAC and Clinique. I did clinique. We told them we were in a wedding. I bought the lipstick and lip liner they used, and I actually really wanted it after I saw it on. All in all, a great experience. If I remember correctly, I think we went to the Macy's in Ross Park Mall. It was a few years ago...

    Due to the risk involved that several have already mentioned, I would just use the time you left to learn how to do your makeup. There are hundreds of videos on youtube of girls showing different styles step by step. My favorite is Michelle Phan.
    Knowing how to do your makeup well for different occasions is something every girl should take the time to learn. It is knowledge that you will use for the rest of your life. make up trends change, but the basic ideas behind them never do. It is all based on color theory and color tone. Heck I could just give you a crash course in highlighting and contouring over email if you wanted me to. That's really all you need to know if you want to define your features.

    To have your makeup done at MAC counters at any Macy's you have to purchase $50 worth of product.
