  I have been receiving quotes from $800-1,100.
  I think $1500 is a little to high for a wedding DJ and you should keep looking around

  We paid $1175 for DJ services. It cost a bit more as we also had uplights, but for the DJ alone it was $1175. He was fantastic, so I know you can find a great DJ for under $1500.

  We are paying $850 for ours. Thought we didn't request any "fancy" lighting though so this may change as the day approaches and we can see if we can splurge later.

  We are using Cal Sounds. Both Tom and Chris are great. The prices start in the $750 range, but we are paying around $1050 because they are doing our ceremony and reception and have to set up in two different rooms.

  I hired one that my DOC recommended. He is located near Los Angeles, and is charging us $800 for basic lighting and sound nothing fancy. He is a really outgoing guy.

  I'm paying $1,600 but they're in Santa Barbara... also have to travel to Santa Ynez... I got the peace of mind package so I don't have to worry about anything... I feel good about spending that much, I think it's an important part. Seeing how a lot of people have gotten really good deals, that's pretty amazing.

  Afterdark entertainment is the place to go.  John offered us his DJ services and uplighting and still came in $40 under budget(for our alotted DJ budget, it's still roughly $475 under what you were quoted).
  
  I am very pleased with him.  I even told him he was charging too little for his services when I booked him and that I was happy to have him.
  
  Definately shop around and be selective. It's really a buyers market out there with the condition of the economy.
