Stag-n-Drag anyone?

I just received the following FB invite:
On ********  we are going to celebrate the impending nuptials of ****** and ******* by throwing them a Stag-n-Drag.

For those of you who have never heard of a Stag-n-Drag....me either. It's an Erie thing apparently and it's basically a great time, huge party that doubles as a pre-wedding fundraiser for the couple.

It'll be held at ********'s parents' house beginning at *pm. The cost is $7.00 per person or $10 for two ($5 for under 21), which will include beer and food.

There will be team buy-in Beer Pong, Horse Shoes, and Flip Cup tournaments with prizes for the winners. In addition there will be a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, jello shots, corn hole and other activities to keep you entertained.

Pre-payment is accepted and absolutely welcomed. If you would like to prepay please send your money with a note that contains the names of all the people you are paying for so we can get you on the Paid list. Pre-payment can be sent to:
*****************

Come and celebrate the wedding of ******* and ********!

MUST be 21 or older to drink!

<div>I'm not sure either. I'm pretty sure the family is sponsoring it, in which case, they could just sponsor the wedding, but without the extra party?  Beats me, I'm sure it will be a great party, except I hate beer. </div>

  • Sounds like they don't make much money on the entrance fee.  I think most of the profit comes from all the other activities you have to pay for once you're there: 50/50 raffle, buy-in games, etc.
  • I'm not sure what they mean by it being an Erie thing... I grew up on Lake Erie and don't know anybody who did this.  The only people I've heard of doing this (Stag and Doe) are my FI's stepfather's family in Canada.

Friends of mine had a stag and doe recently, and it was only 5$ admission and they had raffles and prizes (donated) and ended up making just shy of 5000. I have no idea how, and I totally dont condone them, but fuuck... 5000?!

Sometimes I wish I could be more lax on my morals and had one. I could have used an extra 5grand when I was planning my wedding.

Kate, it will be.  ;)  We've got a set we'll be bringing with us when we move.  Although, FI makes fun of the name.  Apparently that's a reference to a sexual act in his circle.  Not sure if that's Army or Boston, though.

Apparently, Stag-n-drag does not equal Stag IN drag.

  • we are thinking of having one. the point is to just raise money to pay for the wedding. its easy, you sell tickets at $10 or so a piece before the stag.... you make hot dogs/burgers to eat, do a 50/50, horse shoe tourn, chinese auction. have each of your attendants bring a bottle of booze to raffle off and buy some beer. realy you should only have to pay out like $300 to start.. and say you sell 100 tickest BEFORE the stag.. that like $1000 right there. some ppl don't have lots of money to pay for their wedding nor parents that will pay for everything.. its an easy way to raise money for your wedding.

You're right. Some people have to wait until they save enough money, take a second job, cut cable, or all sorts of other things. I bet this party is also an easy way to lose some respect from your friends and family. If you are mature enough to get married you are mature enough to pay for your own wedding.

Psst... this thread's over a year and a half old...
  • I had a friend, who's an amateur equestian competing at the mid-high levels of my sport try to host the same kind of fundraiser to help him compete in Florida for the winter.  Ummm... pay for it yourself!

Why do people think everyone else wants to pay for them to do shiit?

  • WTF is a chinese auction?

And also, I can't believe how low some people will go.
  • Amlaka...

    1. This thread is over a year and a half old. None of the original posters are still reading.
    2. Just because you're doing it too doesn't make it ok.
    3. Nobody needs to have an expensive wedding. Have the wedding you can afford without expecting other people to pay for it. If I want an expensive purse, I save up money until I can afford it, or if I can't afford it, I find a cheaper one. I don't have a "help Poli buy a purse" party.

As far as that message from ahhhitsshannyn it is straight Rude! A stag n Drag is a way to party together with family and friends. It helps raise money for the less fortunate people that arent made of Money! You dont have to be rich and briliant to be Married! So to wait to get married is obscure. You dont have to buy a  ticket to attend this it is an optional event some put on. You make what you spend back and then some. Eveyone has different roles, some poeple bring food such as parents and such, some people from the wedding party. Guys normaly bring a bottle of liquor to donate for a drawing, women usualy bring a basket for the chinese auction. Your bridal party help sell everything along with the bride and groom. Parents normaly handle food, and tickets at the door. Bartender is there if you have mix drinks avalible as well as your keg. So until you have ever been to one or whatever you really shouldnt judge. Maybe that is why it is a "PA" thing.. cause other states are just straight up Rude and Ignorant as hell, aparently feel they are to good to do something of this nature or help a friend or family memeber out.
  • I agree with Danyele2012.  Don't be so judgemental.  If someone wants to put in the effort to have one... let them.  If you want to go, go.  If it offends you, don't go.  It's that simple.  Just because you, per se, won't do it doesn't mean it's off limits.  I have been to a couple and did not feel like I was paying for the wedding at all.  I felt like I was at a picnic or party with a keg and food and some fun gambling entertainment. Honestly, it was a lot cheaper than going out to a bar and drinking and playing pool and darts all night!  And why not have a good time and support your friends by helping them have the wedding of their dreams?
  • To whomever decided to submit their extremely rude and ignorant posts, this is for you.  My fiance and I are getting married in October and live in PA.  We will be holding a Stag N Drag sometime in August of this year.  Obviously no one knows the idea behind this event.  It is indeed to raise money for a bride and groom, but it is not the couple begging for money to pay for their wedding.  We have plenty of money to pay for our own wedding and our families are generously contributing some as well, so this is just a bonus.  Our wedding will probably end up being $15,000 to $20,000 total so this would not even "pay for the wedding."  The idea is to have a great party, with great friends and family, before we celebrate our big day.  Yes, the point is to raise money and use it toward something wedding-related.  We will use what we make to pay for our honeymoon so we have the extra thousands of dollars we save to use toward a down-payment on a home in the future.

My fiance and I have been to several Stag N Drag's for our friends and it's wonderful to support them because obviously weddings are quite expensive.  We also know that the money we spend at these parties is going to a good cause.  Stag N Drag's are a give-and-take.  Any given year, we will go and spend $50 per party to give to the happy couple.  Now, when we are having our own, we know our friends will help us out the same way we did.

Plus, where else can you go to a big, fun party where you can eat and drink all you want for $5 per person?  We will be spending plenty to put this party on, but the idea is making a small profit to go toward some wedding-related expenses.

So, to review for all of the obviously ignorant, uneducated, and condescending individuals here...Great party, great food and drink, great games, and making some money to help with expenses!  It's not just for people who don't want to pay for their own wedding.  Get a life and stop attacking people when you have nothing to back it up.  Maybe you should try adding some fun to your boring life and going to a Stag.  You might see why those of us who have them think they are great!

    Regards,

    Stag N Drag enthusiasts
  • Agree completely with Stephanie126.  I have never heard a negative comment about a stag and drag before reading the posts above.  This is a great time for friends and family to come together and celebrate while earning some extra cash for the big day.  If you don't like the concept, don't go.... but if you do end up going, you will have a great time.

Why did you resurrect a thread that was started over three years ago?  And just to comment that you think a super rude idea is ok.

Yeah, if I was invited to one of these, I wouldn't go.  I also wouldn't socialize with the couple anymore because I don't have time for rude people in my life.
Don't worry guys, I have the Wedding Police AND the Whambulance on speed dial!
