Officiant Questions

We have received a great deal of positive feedback on an officiate that could do our wedding.  I've already corresponded with him via email and he seems very much like I would expect.  But I'm not sure what my next step is.  Do you typically meet with the officiate before you commit?  Is it that important or is it enough just knowing that he comes highly recommended and so far everything has been ok?  Of all the pieces in planning our wedding, I think this one I'm a bit lost on what to do.  Any advice would be great!  Thank You!!

I would definitely recommend you meet with someone before deciding to hire them to perform your ceremony.

  • Yes, definitely meet and interview your officiant like you did for other vendors. Ask him to bring a sample ceremony draft. You want to make sure you feel comfortable with your officiant too.

  • I just talked to ourrs over the phone, he said he didn't need to meet with us until 4-5 months before the wedding so we could get everything finalized.  I wasn't worried about it :)
  • This is also something I have no idea about that is why Fi is taking care of it... he better find someone soon though.

  • We did premarital counseling with our officiant.  It was a really nice way to get to know him and to let him know what we wanted out of our ceremony.

  • We hired a celebrant and met with several before choosing one who met our needs and who's personality we got along with well.
