Tricky No DJ Reception

OK ladies, I have a tough one. I need your help

We are having a dinner reception without a DJ but will be having music played throughout the evening. The cocktail hour will start out as lounge type and old style classic love songs. Then, for dinner the playlist turns into instrumental and classical love songs. After dinner is through, the music gets a little more up beat.

My problem is that we are not having a DJ. I don't know how to have the flow of the night directed. Should I have and M.C.?

Also, I want to do the bouquet toss and garter throw but don't know how to incorporate those in as well. Ideas?

We are having ample beer and wine as well as a photo booth to entertain guests throughout the night.

Re: Tricky No DJ Reception

  • Why aren't you having a DJ? The DJ also acts as a MC and keeps everything on track and livens up the place.
  • If you have the sound equipment, and an ipod, you can create playlists and do it that way. A couple of weddings I went to recently did this, but they asked a good friend who was outgoing to take the Mike for intros, cake cutting, etc... it worked out just fine.
  • Just be careful about who you ask to MC.  I went to a recent wedding that featured as an MC a desperately single kid with no sense of timing, no off-switch, and clearly no experience as even a guest at a wedding.  It was excruciating, and we bailed pretty much immediately after dinner.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
