Bride wants us to wear cowboy boots

Re: Bride wants us to wear cowboy boots

  • Some brides are just nutty.  Last fall I was a BM in my friend's wedding and she required us all to wear minimum 2 inch heels yet she showed up wearing white flip flops.  My BM dresses are long, so I told my girls they could wear whatever they wanted on their feet; I couldn't care less.  As for your situation, I personally wouldn't want to be the only one not matching.  I think I'd look and try to find a cheap pair, try to break them in a bit prior to the wedding, and like the other ladies said, bring a change of shoes for the reception.  She must be a good friend of yours for you to travel to her wedding, so I'd just suck up the extra $30 or so and do it for her if it's what she really wants.

Now, on a different note, I feel bad for you that you have to wear that dress.  I've seen girls in that dress before and actually had my bridesmaids try it on and it is just terrible.  Frown

  • The boots with dress thing is big in the south lately. But I don't see how it's going to be comfortable in Atlanta in July. I'm in Atlanta and getting married in July and I keep telling everyone to remember it's going to be HOT so dress appropriately.
How specific is she being on the boots? Do they have to be cowboy boots with the stitching and such or can you just get a cute pair of boots that you might wear again? I'm sure this time of year you could find a pair of boots on sale online somewhere. I'd try dsw.com. I just checked and they have a couple of cute pairs of cowboy-ish boots available (relatively cheap when you consider the cost of "real" cowboy boots).

Gotta say though, I feel bad for you girls. Your feet are going to roast in boots!

  • My girls are wearing cowboy boots for the reception.  It must depend on where you grew up, bc we're used to wearing them with dresses.  And no, I'm not white trash.  Only one of my girls doesn't own any and I offered to loan her a pair.  You can find them pretty cheap at Target or resale shops if they're not your thing.
  • The boots we use for the country show at the amusement park I work at in the summer were all bought at target/payless (different colors, different stores).  They're pretty easy to break in (as evidenced by the 15 pairs for each cast member we went through last summer) and the cast says that they are some of the most comfortable "real shoes" they've worn to dance in...if that helps any.  I'm with PPs in that I'd just buy the cheapies and then change into flipflops after the ceremony/pictures. =]

  • Cowboy boots can be cute at, say, CountryJam or the Stampede, but they are extremely stiff for quite some time (I would suggest, depending on the type you get, slathering them in leather conditioner and stickin em in the oven for a bit!) and they don't breathe so I would get some stockings to help with the sweat factor. And they aren't exactly something I could picture with this gown....

Granted I live in CowTown USA, but you first need to figure out if she is that serious about it and if she wants ya'll to wear matching ones, so everyone can just search for a particular style that she picks out, since apparently this is her rodeo :-) But if you feel strongly about it, you just need to say something; I'm a MOH this summer and sometimes you need to bring em back to Earth. But if all goes through, good luck to you, and here's a website: http://www.sheplers.com
