Reply cards vs. postcards

Starting to think about our wedding invitations (wahoo!) and wondering people's thoughts on doing reply card w/envelope vs. including a postcard to send back? I feel like you can get more creative with the postcard... and it might fit in with the invitation better.

Thoughts??

Re: Reply cards vs. postcards

  • We did a postcard theme.  It was the same cost as reply cards with envelopes, but we like the look of the ones we did better.  Our invites were pretty casual - boarding pass and our reply cards were the same size paper, so we could fit on it meal choices and the wording we wanted to use.  The back has our address already printed, 2 palm trees and Mahalo written on it, so we much preferred that one.

  • We did postcards for our engagement party invitations and what I learned form that is that the postal system seriously eats postcards.  They get really messed up and/or lost. We are going to do postcards invitations for the AHR, but will be mailing them in envelops so that they will look much better once they arrive.  I think both of your ideas work, but if you do a postcard, I would still include an envelope for it to be mailed in.
  • Yea, that's exciting! If you think you can be more creative with postcards, I'd say do it. I love everyone's creative talent on this board, it makes me want to do creative things for our wedding, but there reallly not much for me to do, so I live vicariously through you ladies!

It's weird, but I have also had bad experiences with postcards as Kimmy mentioned. The one that stands out the most is we mailed 3 from Philly to Phoenix and only 1 got to its desitnation. That was about 2 years ago. We have no idea what happened to the others. Ha ha!

I agree that you can probably be more creative with postcards, but I am now leary of sending them. We are doing reply cards. We are doing boarding pass invites and the reply card breaks away from the last pass so it can fit in a small envelope.

  • Oh, I hope the Canadian postal system is better than the US then, cos everything has gone out.  I'll let you ladies knwo how they go when we start to get them back!!

  • We had a lot of problems with our save-the-dates we sent out =( we had two people that said they never got theres, one sent to the wrong house and one returned to us that had the correct address on it ??? And those are just the ones we know about.....

  • Wow! I had no idea that there were so many issues with shipping postcards. Definitely rethinking that one. Thanks ladies :)

  • We did postcard reply cards for the wedding invitations. I haven't received any back yet as we just mailed the invites last week but I will let you know the condition they are in when we receive them.

  • I debated between the two also... I decided to do reply cards with envelopes just because I was worried about the condition the post cards would arrive in. If you do postcards I would do what Kimmy suggested and still use envelopes.

  • I did postcard save the dates and it went fine (at least as far as I know lol).  I know that they did get a bit beat up because I mailed one to myself.  It wasnt terrible, but with the other ladies concerns I would worry they would get ripped or you wouldn't get them all back and RSVP's are so important.  I agree with the other ladies that you would do postcards so you can have the creativity, but I would do the envelope. I did response cards and envelopes for mine!
