Wedding Woes

movie review

i couldn't sleep last night so i stayed up and watched "the blind side."

y'all -- what am i missing?  i thought the movie was ... fine, but it DEFINITELY was NOT oscar-worthy.  especially sandra bullock.  she's nice and she's pretty, and i'm sure she's a good person in real life, but she did better work in "the net" and "speed."

michael came off as kind of a simpleton.  i know people who work in the nfl, and although the players may be rough, they are defnitely not simple.
i know michael knew how to play football before going to school, and they changed it fro the book but the practices -- especially the one where he's just staring at the balloons -- were ridiculous.

i looked them up on wikipedia, and sean tuohy is described as a "restauranteur."  i guess owning many pizza hut, taco bell and long john silver franchises equals restauranteur in the broadest definition of the word, but it's really the juicy couture of the word.

And this is why I had zero interest in the movie.

Yes.   It was a good movie, but did not belong as an Oscar best picture nominee, and def. not oscar-worthy for Sandy.   But I'm pretty much disenchanted with the Oscars at this point.   After they nominated Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) in the best Supporting actress category, and then gave best actress to Natalie Portman (who I love, but Black Swan was not that great) I've been completly turned off. My lifetime love affair with Oscar might be over.

I liked the movie, but enjoyed the real story better.

It did have a "white people" save the day feel to it. I like the real family better. They have good hearts, and truly love him as a son.

They also left out that Michael still speaks to his mom and brother and sisters. It seems like the only thing that they got 100% right was his great relationship with his tutor.

YES!  it was very "white people are so very good" as well as "look at this kind, gentle black giant" feel to it.  next thing i know, michael oher or quinton aaron is going to be on the green mile, playing with mice and curing diseases.

actually, i guess it was "white republicans are good folk."

Flo, are you saying Hailee Steinfeld didn't deserve the nod, or that it should have been a Best Actress nomination? Because I thought she was awesome.

I'm thinking AF meant that HS should've gotten the award?

I think Micheal's "slowness" was the actor- he was on L&O and it was exactly the same. I don't think he was supposed to come off slow, I just think they picked the actor based on his physical type, and forgot to make sure he could act.

    Ditto Bmom on Haley Steinfield.

Sorry - I was busy working...

I meant that Hailee Steinfeld should have been nomintated (and should have won) Best Actress. She was incredible.

I probably enjoyed the movie more because I didn't know it was a true story.  It was also a rare theater movie for us.
