I need help finding a DJ!

I've been researching like crazy for a DJ to have at my wedding reception. I've come across a couple companies that seem great but I don't know how well they'll do the day of the wedding! I need suggestions!! It would be nice to see how they do at an actual wedding but that can't happen so I need help. Who loved their DJ or saw one they liked at a wedding around Cincinnati?

Party Pleasers is big in Dayton and Cincinnati.  I used them, but I was not pleased.  (My review is further down the page.)

We used DJ Toad and we loved him! We met with him before the wedding to get an understanding about what we like (we have very eclectic taste in music) and really got us. He kept our guests on the dance floor and we heard so many rave reviews from them as well afterward about how much fun they had at our wedding. We really could not have had a better DJ!

Party Pleasers - good company, but there is so many of them who knows what DJ you would get. Like the girl above me that would also be an annoyance.

DJ Toad - Way to big in the cincy area, which means overpriced.

Try DJ Butlers, Cincy DJ and Ur way light and sound.  DJ butlers is a little more expensive,  I don't think you should be paying more than $600 for someone to play music.  I hope this helps.

I used Brian Childs and I think he did a great job.  He played exactly what I asked for and did it very well.  Plus, he was very gracious when I realized that I had forgotten the check to pay him.

He was $595 for unlimited time, although I've heard that he's recently gotten a manager or something and the price may have gone up.  Not sure about that.

Brian Childs!!  I cannot rave about him enough.  We used him for our April wedding and couldn't have asked for anything better.  He doesn't advertise, but comes highly recommended on here and through the Cincy wedding channels.  Here's his email:  pchilds1@cinci.rr.com.

As for Party Pleasers- UGH.  They sent me a demo when I was looking for a lighting service (they do DJ, lighting, etc..).  I would assume that when a business sends out a demo or portfolio- it's of all their best work right?  Well I was CRINGING watching their video.  It was the epitome of the "cheesy wedding DJ." And the videographer who produced the video was just as bad.  I think I actually had nightmares.  :/  Others on here may have had a good experience with them, but I didn't want to take the chance.  Ask for their demo video and see what I'm talking about.

Ask your venue if they can recommend a DJ.  The coordinators at our venue were able to give us a list of DJ's that fit our requirements and even arranged for us to watch one of them in action while he was DJ-ing a private New Year's Eve party.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I really appreciate it! I'm certainly giving a couple of these companies a call and setting up meetings! I've met with party pleasers and the guy was really nice but I've heard so many negative things about them. I asked my coordinator at our venue and she suggested party pleasers lol but I think it's because they have an agreement with them.

More suggestions are still welcome! :)

We are going with Brad Berry from Queen City Dj's.  Our wedding isn't until October, but so far he has been great, and I've never read a bad review about him.

We used Mark McFadden. He did a great job and knew exactly what to do and how to get people on the dance floor.

I booked Party Pleasers after reading hundreds of reviews about them. I could not find one negative comment until this post. Now I am second guessing my decision! We are not in the Cincy or Dayton area but wanted a great DJ for our day so we went for a company in a bigger city. I was told at booking that they did over 1,000 wedding receptions last year alone. I did recieve several calls from them before booking but I just took it as this is a competitive business and they have people working on just getting bookings. Has anyone pesonally been to a wedding they serviced?

Do you know what DJ you're going to have with Party Pleasers? I have heard both good and not so good things about them but that's like every company. I know they do have some really good DJ's and the place I'm having my wedding suggests party pleasers, but I just don't have the budget to pay for one of their master DJ's.

We are going with Maize Music. He has been excellent to work with so far. He answers any questions very promptly. The Madison recommended him for us. They said he will have the dance floor full the entire night

I don't know who our dj will be yet since the wedding isn't until July. When we booked they did not mention anything about a "master dj". I was given a rate for the cost of their Dj package and then of course I added the lighting. Maybe I should call and ask about this? Who do you guys recommend with Party Pleasers?

well with party pleasers its 995 for one of their 'party pleasers' DJs. you work with party pleasers to plan but then your event will get handed off to one of their part-time DJs and you work with that person I think a couple months before the wedding. Then there are their master DJs which cost 1395 and their senior master DJs cost 1695. That package deal they're doing with the lighting you pay that amount (which includes the price for party pleasers DJ) but if you decide to have their master DJ or senior master DJ you add like $200+  (depending on which you choose) to whatever package you decided on. Hope this is making sense lol. I talked to a friend of mine that used them and she had one of their senior master DJs and loved him (now I cant remember which one, I think it was Tim) but I don't have that kind of money in my budget so I didn't even want to meet with him. Weddingwire has a lot of reviews about them in case you haven't checked that out. That website could probably give you an idea of who brides have liked.

We're using DJ Butlers...They have different DJ's available, and the price depends on which DJ you pick (I think the price is based on level of experience)...One of my friends used them a couple of years ago and they were great...The DJ I'm using costs $795 for four hours, but the owner told me they have DJ's starting at about $500...
