Can't decide between Hyatt Aruba and Paradisus Palma Real

I'm totally stuck between these two. The PPR seems more luxurious, which I love, but is Aruba better than DR?

We want a relaxed, luxurious HM, with a gorgeous beach and good snorkeling. I like the AI aspect of PPR because it seems higher end than some of the other AI out there. We're not interested in the Sandals type thing.

Anyone with experience at one or both of these places, or even just Aruba vs. DR?

Re: Can't decide between Hyatt Aruba and Paradisus Palma Real

  • I haven't been to either resort, but I have been to both places!

I would say it depends on what you want to do. They both have great beaches!!! (Although I would check out the weather, DR had rainy season in June- not sure how long it lasts).

I found Aruba to be more 'american/european', every speaks English and you can go into town or on excursions (like horseback riding, snorkeling), or rent a jeep and drive around the island, or try out restaurants at other hotels, etc. I don't know if your hotel is an all-inclusive, but I think that makes a big difference in price. The main town had some nice stores too. The place I stayed was a little older, but still nice.

I would NOT recommend leaving the resort while in DR, the country was very poor and primarily Spanish speaking (most staff at the hotels speak at least some English)- unless of course you speak Spanish and feel comfortable with the culture there! I thought the beaches in DR were a little nicer, and the pools and food where we stayed was great! There was a little market near the hotel (just off the beach), but they were very aggressive selling. The resort we stayed at was newer and the rooms were really nice too.

Have you checked out reviews on Trip Advisor? I always find those helpful! Good luck with the planning!
  • Have you gone to: www.tripadvisor.com?
You can read reviews from guests who have stayed
in hotels. I never book a hotel without checking
    that site first. :-)

    Best wishes
