Scary Movies/TV

My sister suggested I start watching Supernatural, which is a WB television series.  She said it is like Buffy, well it is far scarier and suspense oriented than Buffy.  I haven't decided if I can watch anymore of it.  Where do you stand on scary movies/tv?

  • I gravitate towards scary stuff. I have since I was a kid. I love horror anthologies on tv.

I looooooove scary movies.  Especially the cheesy slashers.  The remake of Nightmare on Elm Street was so hilarious.

  • Apparenlty I'm just a wimp when it comes to horror and suspense because I just can't do a lot of that stuff.

  • I seldom am genuinely frightened by movies and whatnot, but I don't really just go to the movies to watch a scary movie anymore. I don't know what that means...
  • Zippity - I love rollercoasters too :)

  • Well, I'm not 6 years old so I generaly can handle it.

I have to say, I'm cracking up at being scared of Supernatural.  But if that's a litle too scary for you then try Silent Hill.

  • I wasn't scared of it, just offput enough that I didn't want to watch it.  Although, I was watching it at 11:00 pm in the dark.  Maybe I should watch it in the daytime.

  • I can't do scary movies at home (just in the theatre). I can only do scary shows if T or someone else is there. The first season or two of Lost creeped me out so much I couldn't sleep.

This is me also. I'm more afraid of what cant be seen, then all the gore.
The whole lets see how many ways we can murder someone is not fun to me.

And if it can happen IRL I tend not to watch it, too close to home for me.

  • BTW, I do like zombie movies.
  • I also tend to dream things more vividly and horribly than they actually occur in the show/movie.  That makes me leery to watch horror based things.

  • I don't enjoy the typical slasher flick. Gore and shock value don't interest me. I don't want to see someone getting torn apart by a chainsaw, a woman getting raped (the scene in the new Last Hosue on the Left slightly traumatized me, I couldn't sleep that night), or anything like that.

But I do enjoy suspense, something more psychologically scary than gory. Unless it has little kid ghosts. They scare the sh!t out of me. Them and people who walk creepy and jerky, like the girl in The Ring or the ice cream man in Legion.
  • I love scary movies. I don't like gore though. I don't find it scary, just offputting.
Usually ghost/supernatural stuff freaks me out way more than slasher flicks. I know that Jason would be dead after you stabbed him 20 times, so I can't be scared of that.

  • I like scary movies even though FI works until 1130 or 12 at night so until he gets home I'm looking behind me alot. The one that had me on my toes for a couple of days after watching it was Paranormal Activity. I dont know why because it was alittle far fetched but it still got to me. ha

  • Jasmine, Jason's come back 8 times....... ;) They've made 10 movies; 9 where he was the killer.

I like it all, unless it's gore for the sake of it. I'm not too much into remakes, but I did like the remake of My Bloody Valentine. Friday the 13th wasn't SUPER bad, and I liked the backstory in Rob Zombie's Halloween, but I liked the original movie WAY better. I didn't like the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre; the original is much better and way underappreciated. There's very little blood; the scares come from the sounds and the suspense, and the terror on the actresses face - a lot of it was real.

And whoever said they were disturbed by the scene in the new version of LHOTL, do NOT watch the original. I suspect it was far more disturbing. It's one of the few that left me with the willies.

Yeah, DH and I watched the uncut version of that movie the rape seen was a little much. We were both disturbed by it. They could have got it across without the actually raping the girl on camera.

And it was so. damn. long. I couldn't even look at the TV and DH had to fast-forward it just to keep me from freaking out. I wasn't even sure I wanted to watch the rest after that.

Yeah us too. What ever happened to we get the idea, it is implied, then you pan away to something else.

I haven't seen the movie, but I'm sure it was just for shock value.
