Bustle Decisions

Since most of my first day being married to my dream man I will be wearing my train bustled up, I feel like this is a big decision.  I love my dress so much how it is and I want to love it bustled just as much.  So far I'm leaning toward 3 point american bustles and I love the royal bustle I just need to see how it would look on mine.

 Can you please show me pictures so I have the perfect example to show my seamstress? Pretty Please! Added are pictures of front and back of my dress

Re: Bustle Decisions

  • I don't have any pictures but I think your dress would loook gorgeous with a french bustle...just google it to see some examples.

  • Thanks for the response! I have been all over google and pintrest it's hard to find.  that's why i tried this
  • I really like french bustles. That's what I'm doing. I think they look the most "finished".

  • Oye! That is popular I've seen a lot of forums where the french bustle is well liked.  On some dresses it is beautiful!  Maybe I'm being too difficult!
  • This is something you need to work out with your seamstress. A good seamstress should be able to tell you what will work with you style of dress.

    Good luck.

  • I did a ballroom / underbustle.  Love that the dress did not look bustled - and did not hide my train detail - evertything gets tied up inside the dress (mine was 9 points).  Pics from the alterations appointment below....

  • I had a ballroom bustle which worked well with my dress.  It really depends on the material of your dress as well as personal preference.  I can't find any other pics (though I know I have some) of my bustle other than my sig pic.  I tried enlarging it.
  • Also, sometimes with the American bustles, the hooks and eyes will come undone.  So you and the BMs may be re-doing your bustle all night!  I literally took a bread knife to a brides' american bustle to try and completely close the hook, so it would stop coming undone!

    I'm also going for the French bustle, which I think would look lovely with your gown.  There are ties underneath the dress that once tied, that's it!  No more fussing with the bustle!  I don't have any pictures to share of my bustle, sorry.
  • I love that! Your dress is beautiful too! Is there a name for that? Very nice!
  • Hi There;

    My dress is similar to yours but not as flared at the bottom. I am doing an English bustle because it pulls the dress up without altering the look of the hem of the dress. I think this dress is gorgeous and would look good in any bustle, but since there is a lot of material I might be wary of the french bustle, sometimes it can give you too much poof in the back. I am sure your seamstress will be the most help and I have seen that a lot of dresses are cut to favor one bustle over another. Good luck and congratulations on the great dress!

    Sincerely,

  • Your seamstress should be able to pin the dress in different bustle styles for you to see what it looks like and then you can decide that way.

  • Your seamstress should be able to show you different styles that work with your dress, as opposed to you showing her what you want without knowing if if willl work with the drape and fullness of your skirt. She should already be conversant with the most common styles if she is worth the money you're paying her, and therefore shouldn't need you to show her what the different bustles look like. It's always best to see what works for your dress before setting your heart on something and finding out it isn't an option.
