Wedding bands, and other ramblings

FI wants Tungsten. No problem, they're super popular and easy to find. Has anyone else's FI/H used Tungstenworld.com? Their website seems legit, and their prices are really good. Or, if y'all got his Tungsten band somewhere else and have a good rec, please gives it to me.

He also wants it engraved. With "One ring to rule them all." And I just agreed to have my band engraved with "And one ring to bind them." (I realize the second part isn't the exact JRR quote, but a combination of some of the lines.) We.are.supernerds. So, on the subject of engraving, ladies, do you have your band engraved? How wide does a band have to be to be engraved? My wedding band is pretty thin, and I'm not sure there's room to engrave anything.

Re: Wedding bands, and other ramblings

  • We got DH's ring for Jared. Not my favorite place ever, but they had a lighter colored tungsten band than we'd seen elsewhere, and he really liked it.

I don't know much about engraving ladies rings, but I know that tungsten has to be engraved by laser, so plan for that. No idea what it costs, but probably more than standard engraving.
  • On the website we're currently considering using, it's only $25 for laser engraving, so that's not a problem.

  • LC, I love the engravings you have planned.  Love them!

I had Mark's ring engraved, but mine isn't engraved (and mine is the thin one), so I can't help you out.  So, basically, I'm just chiming in to heartily endorse your nerdiness.
  • We got H's tungsten ring from Kay Jewlers.

And I love your engraving ideas.  I'm a huge LOTR fan. :)

  • Thanks OWN! Yeah, it's nerdy, but when you put the two together, it's kind of sweet :) I seriously doubt mine will be able to be engraved and that kind of makes me a sad panda.

That's what H's ring has engraved on it and my band was too thin to properly engraved properly.  They said they could do it but it wouldn't look quite right.  H didn't know about his engraving until the wedding  :)
  • FI's ring is titanium and came from Etsy. It is 4mm wide and is engraved "always my sweetheart 11-27-10", or I hope it is. I forgot to check when it came in.

I am assuming mine is not engraved, but I didn't look. I'll have to look when I get home.

I wanted it to be a surprise too, but cat's out of the bag now. He asked for that engraving months ago, but now that he's picking his ring, he brought it up again.

  • I love the engraving idea. H loves LOTR.

H got a titanium band and I got white gold through Zales (which, according to the KPS or NPS, is the "David's Bridal of rings," ha). At the time, they had a lot of tungsten rings for decent prices. H's was $75, but I'm not sure the price difference in the 2 metals.
  • We got J's tungsten carbide ring from Jared, where we got my rings. It's a blackened tungsten. No engraving for either of us. Both of mine I think are too thin, and the only place they are flat, they've already been sized down, which would've ruined the engraving anyway.
Make sure you know his exact ringsize when you order - they can't resize the tungsten (but you probably already knew that).

  • Love the engraving, LC!

    I got H's ring here: http://www.e-weddingbands.com/

That's part of the reason we're liking this website so much. They send you a ring sizer thingy for free in the mail, so you'll know exactly what size to order. We're not going to order the actual band until we have the size guide to go by. They also do a 45 day return policy and will exchange it within 45 days if it's the wrong size.

  • No tungsten here, but I like the idea.

And I LOVE the engravings.  We got ours done, mines says "Always" and his is "Foever" (ahhhh, how cute).  We were going to go nerdy but are too indecisive.

For reference, my wedding band is 3.5mm wide, so I guess not thin.

FH and I got our tungsten bands at tungstenaffinity.com.  They will engrave the ring for $30, I think.  The prices were great -- both rings together were $200 (promo code at checkout and free shipping!).  We got matching bands... FH's is 7mm, mine is 5mm.  The website picture doesn't do them justice, but here it is :)

we got it right the second time around! ten.twenty.twenty-ten. Anniversary
  • You would not believe how hard it is to find the minimum thickness/width for engraving on google. I'm totally stumped. Also, I'm not entirely sure how wide my wedding band is. My guess is 2 mm. I think.

  • My old wedding band (1st marriage) was 2mm, and it was engraved.

Don't you have a ruler or tape measure lying around the house?  There's millimeter measurement on the opposite from inches..

  • Yeah, I've got a way to measure it. The ring's at home, I'm at work, blah blah. Also just wanted to see if anyone with a pretty thin band had an engraving before I take my band to the jewelry store and ask for what I want, to be told it's not possible.

  • I can't remember if mine's 2 or 3mm.  They could only do a few letters on mine so it says BLB (bear loves bunny).  DH's is so wide and big we probably could've engraved the pledge of allegiance or something on that bad boy.

  • We bought DH's tungsten ring on Amazon from the vendor "Metal Masters Co".  He wanted a black tungsten ring, and when we found this one online we bought it right away because it was only $60 compared to $200 for an identical ring he had tried on at a local jewelers. He loves his ring. Great quality, and they shipped very fast. And they offered a money back guarantee, which was important to me. I believe they can do laser engraving, but we didn't choose to do that. (I think you'd have to email them for more details- I don't remember it being an option during check out, but I remember seeing it listed in the item description.)

Anyway, have fun choosing your rings. Your engraving ideas are really cute! :)

  • Love the engravings.

I've found a lot of tungsten rings on Overstock, but I think you'd have tot ake it somewhere to do the engraving.

We both ordered tungsten rings from larsonjewelers.com, but haven't gotten them yet.  No engraving.
