Wedding dress changes - easy or not?

Does anyone know how easy it is or is not to make changes to a wedding gown. I have been looking online at so many and I want a dress with a slit in it, right above my knee. Problem is there are only like 3 dresses that have this and I either don't care for the top or they are way out of my price range. Just wondering if I find a dress that i like that has a flowy bottom...nothing too poofy...would I be able to get a slit put in it? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

  • I would imagine that if the shirt is cut pretty straight, and there is already a seam in the place you want the slit, and there's too much underlying structure to the dress, it should be pretty easy.  Like, the seamstress would undo the seam to create the slit, then finish the edges off.

You'd really have to ask your specific seamstress about a specific dress though.

  • Talk to a seamstress.

  • Depends on the dress, but in most cases it will involve taking the bottom off entirely and re-cutting it to the shape that you want. Even something like an A-line would have far too much fabric to make into a straight skirt.

Have you looked at evening dresses rather than "wedding" dresses? You might find something similar for a more reasonable price there.

    Good luck!
