Is it possible to have to many themes?

So I’ve always dreamed of a winter wedding. I love Christmas just as much as I love Disney, and have made it tradition to go to Disney every Christmas because of how beautiful it is. We are just starting to plan our big day my first choice was to do just what I’ve done every single year. Have our wedding at Disney in December. Unfortunately a lot of my family members can no longer travel and I absolutely want them there. So I got the idea to swap my choices, bring a Disney theme to our winter here at home. Some of the feedback I’m receiving is that it’s too many themes, and will overdue it. Disney is a location so it would have been fine, not vise versa. But I don’t see why, I was still going to have Christmas and Disney regardless. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Re: Is it possible to have to many themes?

  • I would go very, very subtle with the Disney touches. Otherwise it'll look like a kid's birthday party. Maybe do centerpieces that are Disney-themed, like with crystal mouse ears or Disney Princess figurines. Maybe a themed cake topper. But leave it at that.

  • I personally hate weddings that have a theme. The theme of a wedding is wedding.

Have personal touches (and if you like Disney, sure some small items) but as a "theme"- no.

  • It does sound like a bit much.

For weddings, it's probably best to go with keeping the theme subtle. Like, Mickey and Minnie cake toppers, but not people in Mickey and Minnie costumes walking around to take pictures with lol.

What were some of the ideas you had? Maybe we can help you edit some of it so it's not too overwhelming.

  • If you are dead set on doing both I would incorporate them veryy subtly adding little touches here and there... Disney cake topper, etc.
  • I agree with previous posts. If you like disney, that's fine, but it's not something I would focus heavily on. It would be too over the top do have like Disney logos on the invites and stuff. I definitely think its too much like a kids birthday party (as PP said) than like a mature wedding.
  • IMHO, any theme is too much for a wedding.  It's a wedding, not an 8 year old birthday party.

Incorporate a few disney touches if you must, but a theme is over the top.
  • I agree to keep any "Disney" things to a minimum.  You can maybe to a Mickey and Minnie in wedding attire as a cake topper or you can have a lot of fun with favors such as a custom cookie or Disney shaped chocolates.  And that would allow you to include a small note or tag on the favor briefly identifying your choice to those who may not be aware of your yearly tradition.  Otherwise I would stick with classy wintery details for the rest of the wedding decorations/flowers/colors.
  • Maybe theme was too strong of a word. Of course I want everything to be elegant and not like a birthday party. Disney offers exactly what I’m looking for with their wishes package, but part of what makes it special is having Disney World (the location) at their disposal. My main decorating would include Christmas symbols such as poinsettias, holly berries, and the colors red/white. Then to personalize it I would incorporate Disney in subtle hints. (Cake topper, invitation, maybe a classical song here and there) So what I wanted to ask is: would incorporating Disney outshine my holiday decorated location or is it possible to mix them together delicately.
  • Personally because it's a December wedding I would play more into the Christmas theme.... ornament centerpieces, etc. like this:

  • Personally, I think the best wedding theme is "wedding".

At winter weddings I can see winter touches or Christmassy things around.  There are definitely Disney Christmas things (I'm thinking ornaments mostly, maybe stuffed animals??) but I wouldn't say they're generally wedding-appropriate.

What you've listed in your updated post (poinsettias, Christmas colours) with Disney touches (cake topper, inviations) sounds reasonable to me.

Make sure your FI is on board with your theme/decorating ideas.  A lot of guys will not be so thrilled with a Disney theme.  Make sure to get his input.

  • I had Disney incorporated in my wedding and I can assure you that it did not look like a 5-year-old child's birthday party.  The key is to have subtle touches here and there.

I think your idea with the subtle hints is the way to go.  Whenever you work with a "theme" it's important not to overdo it in any way.  Just for reference, here's what we did for our Disney things:

The BMs walked into the church to the opening credits of The Little Mermaid

I walked down the aisle to ''Beauty and the Beast'' instrumental movie version (not the one by Celine Dion)

Our thank you tag was this:

    That's it.

  • I am having a Snow White Themed wedding (and it will not look like a kids party), We are using apples as centerpieces. Snow Whte and Prince Charming as a backdrop on the invite. Apples candles as place cards and favors. My colors are red, yellow and blue just like her dress. We got engaged at Disney as Snow White and Prince Charming. My friends and family would think it was wierd of I didn't incorporate Snow White into my wedding. I am a kid at heart and she is my favorite. And yes my FI is totally on board. It is your day do what you want and love.

  • I hope you don't take any of the more discouraging comments above to heart. Are you inviting those people to your wedding? Does it matter that they think Disney is for kids, or that a wedding should ONLY weddingy and themes are just "too much"? I say, this is YOUR wedding ~ make it exactly what YOU want it to be. The only other person who should have a real say is your fiance. The point of themes is to turn it from an average wedding into YOUR wedding; personalize it! Have fun with it! Turn it into your dream! I've heard of halloween weddings that were beautiful and not gross, I've heard of a wedding where the girl wore daisy dukes and was barefoot! And you know what, I bet that they loved their weddings, and that the guests enjoyed themselves and it was unique and unforgettable. So, look to these boards for ideas & inspiration, but if you want a Disney Christmas winter wedding and your fiance likes the idea too, then don't let well-meaning strangers turn you away from it. I wish you fun planning and a wonderful wedding day!!!! :)
