SO: How long did it take you to finish your thank you cards?

How long did it take you?  Did anyone say anything to you about how quick or slow you were?

Re: SO: How long did it take you to finish your thank you cards?

  • We haven't done ours yet, but we've just hatched a plan :) We're going to open gifts (privately) at my parents' house the day after the wedding since that's where they're being sent because of our moving craziness. We then take a 5-hour flight later that day, so we're going to knock them all out then and send them the next day!

At least, that's our plan. We'll see...
  • I had mine finished within a week of the wedding.  BUT, my boss was off work and it was incredibly slow, so I really had nothing better to do.  I hate sitting on those kinds of things--I'd rather just get it done.

  • We're taking a two week honeymoon, and I won't even start them until we get home.  I would hope to finish them within a week of being home.

All of mine are done except for 3 that people have randomly given me gifts in the past couple months. And I feel really bad but I forgot to write down who they came from and I don't know how to write the TY. So I feel really bad but they may just not get wrote :(.

The rest were done a couple days after my shower, and about two weeks after the wedding. I wrote them on the drive to port, but then it was a good week or so before they got sent out.

  • We took a 4 day mini-moon, and did them right after we came back. Finished and mailed within a week. The joys of a tiny guest list.
  • I'm also not married yet, but I'm really aiming to get them done by the end of the month in which I get married - so less than 3 weeks. Fi and I are dividing them based on whoever is closest to the giver (though I'll probably do our mutual friends). Fi said we should sit down right when we get back from the honeymoon. Honestly? We have a 7 hour drive each way on the honeymoon. I'm bringing some of those babies with me. (We have about 36 hours between the wedding and when we leave, so we can open and record gifts then.)

  • First (traditional) wedding: The ex had his sent in about a month; the last of mine were out in 6 weeks. We went on a honeymoon directly after the wedding, came back to real life and work, and finished as we could. We mailed them in batches so that anyone who would talk to each other got them at the same time (family first, then parents' friends, then my friends).

FWIW, I don't think more than a month and never are remotely in the same category. I typically receive weddng thank you's in 1 to 2 months, which I think is a reasonable timeframe.
  • We went on our honeymoon right after the wedding, so I started them when we got back a week and a half later. I got quite a few finished and then started slacking. I think the last one was sent out a few days before the four-week mark Embarassed. No one said anything about them though.

  • I sent them out as gifts came in, so there weren't many left to write after the wedding. I think I got them done within about two weeks, except for a couple of gifts that straggled in much later.
  • We were done within a month. Most were done within two weeks I believe. I just wanted them gone and done with.
  • I think it might depend on how many you have to write!  I'm trying to get through all the gifts we've received already, but we still haven't received gifts from 160 couples (so probably like 120 families, if kids go in with their parents)

my hand hurts just thinking about it! ouch!

I think ten cups is right; up to 2 months and you should be fine.

  • It took me about 6 weeks and nobody said anything (not even my family and they are not ones to hold back).  We wrote several each day and then just mailed them all together.

  • Oh, yeah, I'm with Ten. I don't actually start wondering about a thank you note until the 2 month mark has passed. And if I get one before the three month mark, I won't think anything of it. If it's after that, I kind of give you a side eye. But getting one at all is better than not getting one ever.

I have a friend who's getting married at the end of August and won't be opening her gifts or sending thank you notes until December. Even though she gave everyone a heads up, I don't know how I feel about that.

  • Two months after the wedding they were sent out.  I procrastinated.  It only took me about 2 evenings to do it.  It was just a matter of sitting down to do it.

No one said boo to me.  People loved the thank you cards though.

we're VERY bad. *hangs head* we just sent out the last of the TY notes 2 days ago. the majority of them, I sent out last week. it actually didn't take that long to write them, just 3 afternoons of work for me and about 4 weeks for H (he took his time and wrote some long-ass notes, so he only wrote about 3 a day). what took so long was H taking his sweet time, and we never made it to the post office to get stamps. all in all, we sent the last one just short of the 2-month mark.

my mom called and griped at me 2 weeks ago, saying people were calling her and asking where the notes were. I told her about the stamps, and 3 days later, she had sent us 60 stamps that perfectly matched our notes. haha.

  • H and I are super procrastinators and it took us just over 2 months to get them done. In our defense they included a picture of us, so we had to wait for our pro pics to come back. We still felt bad and I hated doing them, but there you go.

  • I got married almost a month ago and haven't started them.  I'm doing photocards and we just got our pro-pics back.  We're going on our HM tomorrow and when we get back I'll get cracking on them.
  • mery, I'm so full of love for them.

  • I finished and had them sent out two days after the wedding. I had 150 people and it honestly didn't take very long. IMy main concern was getting them out before leaving for the HM since our HM was two weeks long.

  • I was so excited to leave for the HM a week after th wedding so I wrote most the week after but sent them about 4 weeks after the wedding.

We included our photo website card for everybody to see and got a million bajillion comments.

Is there a reason she is waiting so long?  I think my curiosity would get the best of me in that time and I would just open them.  But I also have a hard time waiting for my Christmas presents when they are sitting there all enticing under the tree.
  • My friend said to me last night "Oh, by the way, thanks for all that stuff you got us for the wedding!" Her wedding was 2 years ago.  I'd side-eyed the lack of note then forgotten all about it.  Now I'm side-eyeing her all over agian.
  • We're still waiting for our thank-you cards to arrive (we used Shutterfly). Shipping takes forever when you're in Canada.

We originally had to wait awhile too for our photographer to send some teaser pics that we could use in the cards.

Our wedding was May 22...as soon as they arrive I hope to get them done within a day or two!

I'm making my notes for my shower, but for the wedding, I'm probably doing a photo card or something. I'll make those too, but since my dad is doing all of our posed pictures, I'll have the files within a week.

My PLAN is to get them done the week we're back from our HM if we take it right after the wedding. If we don't take it immediately, we're going to do them in the days following the wedding.

PS: OWN, I LOVE your photo!!
