OL Tuesday

Dear Face,
I do appreciate the humor in a breakout the week of the wedding -- when I haven't had a single spot in over six months. But, seriously, cut it out. Between airbrush makeup and digital photo editing, nobody's going to see those spots anyway, so it's really just an annoyance.
--Me

Dear To-Do List,
The wedding is this weekend. My immediate family is flying in late tonight. I'm on vacation as of noon tomorrow. If something doesn't get done now, it's just not going to get done, and I think I'm okay with that. I just want to relax and enjoy.

    Dear Coffee Pot,
Why, oh, why must you decide to magically stop working this morning, when I am running on 4 hrs of sleep and have a school project to finish by noon?
    That's just cruel.

    Dear the next 2 weeks,
Please don't kill me (or let me kill anyone).
I'll be done with school then - and I'm SO ready.

    Dear girls,
I've been advised not to mention a certain standardized test on the Interwebs, because some people are idiots, so I'll just let you guess why I really have zero motivation to get to work today.

    Dear Jenny Craig,

    Dear Marie,
You're so close!! Hope the face clears up and stops annoying you!
    - Someone who knows the horrors of break outs

    Diana,
    One Word: Starbucks!!
    - girl who had to stop there herself

    Dear FI,
I wasn't concerned about your bachelor party until your cousins were so excited about being in Vegas at the same time. Now since they are all married with kids I'm a little concerned what kind of trouble they will get into and drag you with them.
    - Your just concerned FI

    Dear little sister/MOH,
Thanks for making me be the bad guy in the whole parent situation. I apologized and you still didn't take it. Obviously I'm the bad guy and nothing will change that in your eyes. I'm so sick of all this and I wish I could just elope at this point. I wouldn't do that to FI, it's not his fault my family is so messed up and can't handle a happy situation appropriately. Thanks for letting me vent ladies.

    Dear Deepthi -
I hit the McDonald's drive-thru in my pjs (the closest purveyor of coffee) - so I'll live, but it's still annoying... and their "large" isn't quite big enough!

Also, I'm so sorry that you are having so many family difficulties leading up to your wedding!  I hope things get better - or at least the time flies by for you.

    Dear DFWIndian,
I know how you feel. Family drama took all the joy out of wedding planning for us, and if we could go back, we'd just elope to avoid the drama (and save a ton of $$$ to boot). I don't have quite the horror stories some of you guys do, but it was enough to kill the buzz for us.

However, now that it's upon us, and now that my parents are coming into town (who have been 100% wonderful) I'm trying to forget all that and enjoy it. I'll let you know how much I have to fake it :)

    Dear Ladies with Family Trouble,
Hugs to you.  My parents would have been perfectly happy with a lovely trip to Vegas if that's what we wanted.  I wanted to get married in the church but it wasn't a  huge, huge requirement for Bill.  I would have been happy just marrying him.  His parents caused me to actually hate certain parts of the wedding, mainly the rehearsal dinner.  I did get a backhanded comment from them on the night of the RD:  You know, Julie, it was actually really good and they're really good here at the hotel."  I never actually got a comment on the reception.  Oh, well.

Your guest book is AHHH-mazing.  Even better than mine.  And I thought mine was pretty good.

    Dear Knotties with family drama,
I wish I had some words of encouragement or advice.  I guess I'll just ditto Julie and say *hugs.*

    Dear Marie,
So excited for you!  Hope it's smooth sailing from here on.

    Dear Self,

MarieSD:  Yay!  It's just about here.

Deepthi:  I totally feel you.  My family has been pretty good minus a few things, but the in-laws are driving me crazy.  The whole family drama is just tiresome and I'm so over it.  I can't wait to get this thing done and go to Italy.  ugh.

    Dear To-do list,
Where did you go?  I thought I had you in my head and now I cannot remember anything.  Great.  I probably forgot something huge.

    Dear Stephiehall,
I just remembered that a few nights ago, I had a dream that you posted pictures of me on my wedding day. I was in my wedding dress, swinging on a swingset. I was a little confused in the dream, because I didn't think the wedding had actually happened yet, but I was flattered that you posted them and happy that I looked really happy in the pictures!

    Dear Knotties,
I also dreamt that there was a horrible FFF where everyone was getting called out and it was pretty awful, and I had to leave the boards before my wedding and was sad.

--Knottie who has vivid dreams (and remembers them) and obviously knots too much :)

    MissAngel,
You're going to Italy too??? I don't think I knew that! I'll be in Rome and Venice next week. Where are you going?

Julie (and everyone else with family drama),
It was my FI that really wanted to be married in his home church, by his pastor, and I loved that about him (even though I wanted to elope from the beginning). But doing it in his hometown just brought so many unexpected strings and expectations ... which we tried to compromise with, but I know nobody's happy (including me, because I'm paying for it). Well, except my family. They never expected me to get married, much less a semi-formal one in Texas. They're soooo excited.

Yep!  We are going to Rome and Florence and maybe a day trip to Pompeii and Bologna.

Why Bologna?  I didn't know Italy a Bologna that was famous... but alas, it is where FI undergrad fraternity was founded and he really wanted a picture there... At least it's a short trip from Florence.

    Dear FI,

Thanks for completely ignoring me last night when I broke down into tears and desperately needed your advice.

    Dear FILs,

Thanks for completely stressing me out.  Let me let you in on a little secret.  My biggest pet peeve is when people say they are going to do something and then don't.  If you want to do it, great -- you need to get me specifics.  If you don't want to do it, we have expressed multiple times that is perfectly okay but we just need to know one way or the other. It's been 2 months and do we know anything from you?  NOPE!

What's the problem with the FILs? I may be able to offer advice since this sounds familiar -- although to warn you, it may be along the lines of "yes, see if you can scrap plans and elope." Or, "do not include them in the planning -- tell them thank you, but you have it covered."

Also, it took my FI a long time to realize how stressful the wedding stuff is. Give him time, and show him the numbers (if the problem is capacity or fiances). Repeatedly. Don't let wedding planning become a source of fighting between you though -- especially if it's about the FILs. You have to be a united front on those kinds of issues.
