Ring swapping

So how does the ring swap work? We arent having an actual wedding because its hard for our families to travel right now so it'll just be Ryan and I at a Court house with a big party later. But do we need to buy new rings for each other or can we continue to wear what we have? Ive always been a little confused with this sorta thing! Lol thanks for reading!

Re: Ring swapping

  • Yeah, I'm not sure what you mean by ring swap. If you both already have engagement rings, you would both generally get wedding rings, as well -- most weddings involve a ring exchange, unless you go for something non-traditional. Your FI could always choose to wear his e-ring on the other hand, or if he really likes it and doesn't want another ring, he could just take his e-ring off before the ceremony and reuse it as his wedding band. I assume that's what you meant?

  • Different countries have different customs for ring swapping. In many European countries, wedding ring is same as the engagement ring. At the time of the wedding the status of the ring changes with engraving and ring finger in which it has to be placed. Most often wedding rings are new and should be exchanged with the wedding vows. There will be a ring for the groom and one for the bride. If you are in the US, ring swapping for you might mean exchanging wedding bands.
