@peaseblossom55 we're flying into London, spending a few days there, taking the train to Paris then flying to Rome and flying home from there.
Very nice! I've been to all three I want to head to Rome again at some point. I haven't been to Paris in 5 years and I miss it terribly... Paris is my favorite city in the whole world. You will have such an amazing time!
Hummingbird125 - neither FI or I like to be the center of attention so we wanted a SMALL wedding. FI is Italian and his mom said a 'small' wedding was Aunts/Uncles/1st Cousins - after it's all said and done it would be over 100 people for just FI's side; most of my side of the family probably wouldn't come (maybe 20-30?); to me that's not a small wedding. So FI and I talked and decided on a destination wedding with immediate family only (so we're looking at like 14 people including us). I know with certain upgrades due to the destination we will probably be paying the same amount as a wedding with 40-80 guests; but it's much more 'us' where we are hoping everybody can get a mini-vacation out of it.
@RWS2011 - as far as inviting kids - Could you do a 12 and under menu (or even a 14 and under menu). Let's be honest, most kids will appreciate burgers, chicken fingers and/or mac n cheese over traditional chicken/fish/beef choices.
Afternoon ladies! I wanted to check in earlier but I've been working my tail off on a case that imploaded this weekend...it really sucks being at work when the office is closed, half the city of Chicago is home and the windchill is -50 or so.
@tuarceatha - I've very sorry to hear about your grandfather. My thoughts are with you and your family.
@RWS2011 - I "second" a kids menu. Or are you guys potentially considering a buffet style? That might be a way to make things a little more reasonable. Can they break the tables up and "hide" a few behind a curtain? We used creative drapping at our venue when we got married (we had 130 guests for a space that usually holds 180-200).
@Buddysmom80 - I hope you feel better soon. I'm glad to hear Quigley is doing so well!
Thanks for all the suggestions. I appreciate the thought. We are on a very limited budget for our wedding and don't have much wiggle room for 10-15 extra guests. Furthermore, our venue is through the parks. We have to set everything up, and there are no curtains or dividers, nor can we hang anything. Renting something is outside our budget. The caterer we have is not particularly fancy, we are having sandwiches (nice ones, locally sourced organic meats and veggies), chips, fruit and a guacamole bar. We are bringing the fruit and guacamole bar ingredients as well as the dessert. The caterer is just bringing the sandwiches, chips, and beverages.
I'm not suggesting the problem is insurmountable, but it will probably involve something like having to make meatballs and crock pot mac and cheese the evening before. We are going to try to put our heads together to figure out economical kid friendly options, but going through the caterer would definitely cost more than making something on our own.
I did nothing exciting this weekend. I had the house to myself for most of Saturday because BF was taking his boat up to Morro Bay. Saturday evening to midnight was spent working and training for my promotion, which wrecked my tips. Sunday was full of nothing. The pup got to play with the upstairs neighbor's dog and she had a blast. I was pre-close on Sunday so that was just work. I was kind of bummed about last week because tips were apparently good last week and I missed out on them.
By the way, BF just asking me what I was "knotting" and I had to giggle. I've never referred to it as knotting and he goes ahead as says it for me.
